XD105f Digital Copier/Printer - failure
Too Expensive to Use, Maintain, and RepairI spent several hours online trying to find an authorized Xerox Repair Center in my area, but none exist. I checked the Xerox web site and sent an email to the Team Xerox folks. The answer I got back, "if my product is still under warranty, they can send a repair person out for a $250.00 service call, not including parts and tax. Or, I could get a reconditioned unit, but keep my drum, print cartridge, and power cord to use."
Does this sound like a good plan to you?
No, I didn't think so either.
I retired the Xerox 105f to the garage and immediately purchased the Hewlett-Packard Officejet 7110. Not only does it cost 30% less than the Xerox product, it does a lot more - it copies and scans in color, prints (with reduction/enlargment), and faxes. And the ink cartridges cost around $30.00. If I have a problem with the H-P, I know where I can get it fixed.
Granted, the technology has moved on since I bought the XD105f, and perhaps I cannot make a fair comparison with a new product, but if the Xd105 had performed as expected, there would besome customer loyalty here. Sorry, I decided on an H-P.
Thanks for listening.

Where's the Cutting Blade?
non-stickines of tape; jam; cost of AC/DC adapter and tape- It jams when there is no enough power. In this case, it should stop printing. It seems that it has enough power to print, but not enough power to eject the tape.
- I could not found the spec for the AC/DC adapter (output voltage). I have many AC/DC adapters, and I hate to buy another one. I do not think the one from casio is any better than a generic one.
Based on the fact, that it uses 8 batteries, I think the AC/DC adapter's output voltage should be 12V, but not sure. The voltage should be indicated on the socket, but it is not.
- I kinda surprised me knowing each label I make costs 10-20 cents.
I mentioned negative things, as they bother me. Whatever I did not mentioned, I have no problem with. As a standard service, Casio sends me the manual free of charge, when I lost the original manual.

Adequate for only the most personal of projectsThe product's major flaw is precisely that they _are_ quarter-fold cards. You'll rarely find a quarter-fold at a card shop--especially not made out of heavy card stock--because they're bulky and impermanent. They're twice as thick as the more standard two-fold cards. And if you can fold them, your recipient can unfold them. This destructability fairly screams "I was made on a computer in someone's home office."
So why do so many people buy this product? I guess because the sheets are the same size as North American letter paper, they "feel" familiar. Maybe, as well, the format is a hold-over from the 1980s, when dot matrix printers reigned, and there was no other convenient way to make cards but by quad-folding. Or perhaps it's because a two-fold card in the small invitation size is rarely (if ever) available at most retail locations.
Whatever the reasons, your end results with this product will look as cheap as the card stock costs.
I like this size for my cards

Audio quality very poorKeyboard, Mouse and Video quality - 5 stars
Audio quality - 1 star
If audio quality is important, do not buy this model. The sound level is scratchy and tin-like. I tried from 2 different computers (both Red Hat 9 and Windows XP) and the result was still the same, very *poor* audio quality.
I do not know why a company which manufactures and sells computer hardware would include a feature that does not work. I have come to expect this practice from software companies where it is common practice to sell a product that is broken out of the box. For some reason this is not acceptable on hardware products.
In sum, I returned my unit and bought the equivalent belkin model instead. It was worth it despite being $10 more cause the audio works great on it.

Produce washed out colors on photosThere is a Russian proverb loosely translated as "Stingy pays twice". Damn, it can't be truer.
Photos looked washed out, not saturated enough. At first I though that since instead of CRT I use LCD, which changes colors when looking under the angle, so maybe it was my PhotoShop processing - not dark and saturated enough. I made a few photos darker, saved them as copies, and reprinted. They came up better, but some details were lost.
Then I submitted both versions of these photos to the local lab, and they proved my point. Original photos were great looking with all the details and colors, the darker copies however were really dark with dark details in the background completely lost.
So I let all Rhinotek inks run out and replaced them with the Canon's. Then I reprinted the same photos. My original versions were rivaling the lab's ones. So problem was definitely in these Rhinotek inks.
So if you print photos (and what else would you on your 900 or 9000) stay away from them, and buy Canon's - you will not pay twice to get the results you'd like.
Not the Canon brand
