High quality, affordable scans
Excellent Scanner for the Price!Installation was a breeze with my pentium 4 and windows XP pro.
Amazing pictures and so easy to handleEven at medium resolution the quality (viewing and printing)of the picture is amazing. You can blow the picture to bigger sizes and it won't fade like a digital image from a digital camera does at medium resolution.
I just love it. With this scanner I won't have to trade my old Cannon SLR for a digital camera because the quality of the pictures scanned from negatives as well as slides is perfect and better than the medium resolution of a digital camera.
The software that handles the scanner is straight forward, easy to handle and with a lot of posibilities to play with the image before saving it. I can make color pix become B&W and the other way around too. When scanning slides you can even fix the old faded colors of the slides.
The scanner allows you to scan at several resolutions so it is up to you and your hard drive space the quality you want for your pix.
I just love it and I had recommended it to every pix lover I know.

Not Compatible with Windows XP.This version of Epson Perfection does not support the new Windows edition of XP, therefore I would upgrade to a newer epson version of the scanner.
Scanner Tester
Hinderancebut I have XP and like the same I have scanner Epsom Perfection 660 and it simply doesn't work. I bought one, didn't work, didn't know and replaced for another new one and it again didn't work. I didn't know whether it (the scanner) was compatible in XP.
thanx
Best scanner I've ever ownedScanning is fast with the 12mbps USB port although you will notice a slowdown when scanning at higher resolutions because of the large amount of image data generated. That's common to all high resolution scanners and not a problem associated with this particular unit or USB in general.
The scanner works with Windows Imaging, Photoshop 5.5 through 6.0a, MS Photo Edit and other software using the Epson Twain utility. The Epson Twain software has never crashed my computer and its setup was a simple, one-time only affair.
Another big plus is that this scanner works with Linux. I use it most often as my input device for the GIMP program using the Xsane scanner interface. With this OS and app setup, I've never had a problem from this scanner.
Given my good experience with the 636U, I have recommended Epsons to friends and family alike. My next scanner will definitely be another Epson Perfection.

Beware
Canon BJC-50
Infrared works well with Windows METwo great benefits of the BJ-50: 1. Infrared wireless printing (if your laptop supports it) 2. There is battery in the printer, so you don't have to connect it to an electrical outlet to print! Both features are VERY convenient.
Print quality is decent, but I can't comment on ink life since I have just begun to use the printer.

Yikes Watch Out for XP and This ScannerHp help was no help. I didn't have any of the suspect hardware they mentioned. I downloaded updates and tried to reset the compatibility. Nothing worked. So I connected it with the parallel cable. It now works but o-h s-o-o s-l-o-o-o-w-l-y.
So I went from being fairly happy with this beast to being quite unhappy.
One very good scanner

Good scanner, sorry software
Quality scanner, great valueI have to say I was not disappointed in any way. Sure, it's not the world's most attractive scanner, in fact it's on the ugly side of unattractive, however it does what it's supposed to. It scans at an incredible quality, and does it fast. I have yet to see a better scanner on the market for under $100.
I would recommend this scanner to anyone, unless you have money to burn and want to spend 2-3 times more money; this scanner represents exceptional value and quality.
My only reservation is that the accompanying software is not brilliant.
Nice little scanner - very good value.
Setup was a snap, nice plug-n-play USB 2.0 interface. Software was easy to use. I set it up to do batch scanning and no problems. The dust removal and color correction are really useful features.
But the real proof was in the prints that I made. I'd been shooting with a Canon D30 and making 8x10 and 11x14 prints for some time. But the prints from the Scan Dual III at even 11x14 were just incredible. I haven't tried larger prints, but I'm sure they will be great at least to 16x20.
Trust me you won't be disappointed with this scanner. My old slides and negatives have been brought back to life!
