Regular TV resolution is better, but not bad overall...
Works great! This unit works great, just as advertised. This unit plugs into your computer's USB port. I had to download the drivers from the Hauppage web site in order to get it to work with Windows XP (the drivers on the CD did not work). But after that, I was off and running.
The only problem I notice is that sometimes there is a slight lag between the video and the audio (about 1/10 second). This may be due to the speed of my laptop (I have a 1.6 Ghz Centron) or my video hardware. But I'm happy with it. I plan to get another Hauppage capture card (PVR 250) for my desktop pc so I can capture and compress video real-time.
The WinTV-USB can also do this, however it does not do compression so its impractical to use as a poor man's TiVO.
Satisfactory Product for its promisesThe quality is not as good as on a TV ( afterall the original signals are interlaced which are postprocessed for the computer to be progressive scan and its not a $100+ piece of hardware !!) but good enough as a secondary TV when the mainTV is captured by the rest of the family.

Switch to "ATi 9800 Pro Series" ASAP !!I thought "PNY 5900 128 MB" gonna give my games some "Magic"
but I just seen a little improvement and of course this not enough for a Crazy Gamer like me !!
I suggest to choose one of "ATi Radeon 9800 Pro" Series
cuz current nVidia FX Series not as good as ATi.
Finally, I gonna switch to ATi Products and my choice this time is "ATi 9800 Pro 128 MB" cuz this card like M*O*N*S*T*O*R moreover, its price so fair !!
Trust me dude !!
I'll not let you down :)
Not as good as Radeon but still good for Nvidia fans!
Awesome Video CardI upgraded from an nVidia GeForce 5200 to this card and the gains were amazing! In Star Wars Galaxies the fps gain was very substantial. I went from averaging a shakey, stop-start 10-20fps to almost always getting what most people have said is the max: a smooth 29fps. Even on the offline games I own I have seen a drastic increase in the quality of the 3d images that are splashed in front of me especially in higher resolutions. I can't wait until I get that shiny new LCD screen to watch them pop even more!
That being said, perhaps this may not be the case if you are already running a 5600, but if you have a 5600 then you can afford to make the leap up to a 5950 or wait until the next generation of cards come out. My personal opinion is to wait to jump at least two generations ahead when it comes to video card technology. That way you notice a sizeable difference in the quality of your picture and don't have to degrade a product because you don't have as good a perspective as you might. It helps keep the prices low too.

Radeon VE
Great Non-Gamer Card!!One of the majors FLAWS is, the Radeon VE/7000 does not have hardware T&L, which is very much needed for demanding 3D games.

A good/reasonable priced captured card w/editing softwareIt includes
: DV capture card with 3 IEEE1394 (Firewire) ports. Allows you to connect your DV and 2 other IEEE1394 devices. like external hard drive.
:Ulead Video Studio 5.0, which is a better than average DV editing software. It is everything a home movie editor need. It makes editing very easy. It has plug & play capture. You can edit, erase scenes, add special effects, insert new scenes, make titles. You can save the movie in MPEG-2 (save you a lot of hard drive space!!) or other formats. Then you can burn it on a CD.
:INCLUDES A IEEE1394 cable!!!! (6pin to 4 pin) (save[d] me ...[money], cause my Sharp VL-WD450U (bought at Amazon) doesn't include firewire cable)
Pro:
This ... DV editing package has everything you need for startup..(even cable) and back by grahic card giant Ati. It has easy to use editing software and a fast IEEE1394 card.
Con: I wish they come with Ulead Video Studio 6.0 or 6.5, but hey ...its [less then] [inexpensive].....what more can you ask?
Compare to Pinnacle DV Express, hardware-wise they both come with a IEEE1394 w/ cable. The only difference is software, Ati's Ulead has more functions. The only thing Pinnacle DV express 's software can do and Ati 's Ulead can't, is create DVD ready CD or DVD. But i rather have a well function software than a software that can't do anything but capture and burn DVD ready CD. ...

Good card depending on your OSFinal Assessment: Good card for XP but better for 2000/98 Operating Systems. If the price is still 130.00 - I wouldn't get it. This is an $60-80 at best at this moment.

pricey, but worth every penny
It takes the power from the USB port, so that's nice, but the USB cable is permanently connected to the device which kinda makes it a pain (I like to just keep the USB cable connected to the PC to make it more convenient and connect whatever device I want later). Also, my USB port is on the back of my 500MHz machine, so that's even more inconvenient for me.
Anyway, overall, everything isn't too bad if you don't mind the lower quality of the video. If you want better quality, I read the internal TV tuners are much better. I wanted convenience though.
Oh yeah, there is a slight but noticable out of sync-ness between the audio and video, but it isn't too bad. You cannot get closed captioning and there is no FM tuner or remote control for this one (but those features would have made this model more expensive).
If there were an option, I would give it a 3.5. It deserves better than a 3 - but because of the VCD quality and price (this is kinda expensive for VCD quality) I can't give it a full 4.
