Don't Leave Home Without It!
I love this thing!

I hated PDAs... Had no use for the things, until this little gem came along. Pop it in, load up some maps and you've got a pretty sophisticated GPS in your pocket. Now my PDA is always by my side.

It took a little practice getting used to it, but once I did, I started finding my way to and from places I never would've found before. I drove down to Atlanta and spent nearly a month in unfamiliar roads, but I never got lost.

One of the great things about it is that it's integrated with the Contact Manager (which gets synched by the PDA software with Outlook and AOL contacts), so you can find anyone in your contact list.

Here are a few things you should know:

1. Make sure your PDA has TWO memory slots. One Compact Flash for the Pharos, and the other for you to place a traditional memory card. In my case, my PDA has a second SD memory slot which I keep a 256MB card in that has maps for about 3 states that I travel to.

2. Invest in the optional car kit. It gives you:

a) A car power cord so your unit stays on, for your trip without losing power (it also charges your PDA).

b) A cool little holder to hang your PDA on your air conditioning vents so it stays put when you drive.

c) An external antenna to give you a stronger signal. In my case I generally don't use it.

3. Practice for a bit on familiar turf. You need to know how to re-route yourself in a pinch if you make an incorrect turn. I found that the routing was generally pretty accurate, but often it doesn't have North/South/East/West designations, so it may just say "highway exit ahead", when in fact there is a fork in the exit giving you an East/West choice... so you are forced to look at the screen and make a guess as to which one to pick.

5 Stars for the product, 1 star for Philips!
I was very lucky to get this handy product as a gift. Nino is very impressive. First, no setup is necessary, just take it out from the box and it is ready to be used. I also used the handy Nino-to-PC cable to connect it to my PC. Unlike many other products which require USB, Nino can be connected via regular RS serial port, which is a standard on any system.

Personally, I didn't face problems connecting the port. But some might since serial ports have their own stuff. For example, they must not share the same IRQ. Now the customer service at philips are not smart enough to tell you that. So I guess you should go over your Windows manual and philips manual for troubleshooting.

Nino is very portable, and except the fact that it is thick not to fit in my pocket, I think it is great. I anyway am a college student and carry my bag almost anywhere I would carry my nino. In this case, Nino fits nicely in my bag.

Very Good Stylus/Pen
This is an excellent stylus/pen combination. I bought this exact item from a store near where I live, and have had it for several weeks. It is durable, easy to switch between pens and a stylus. My only complaint is that it slips out of your hand after a long period of use, but it's excellent for usual use. I'm going to order another one for my visor!

Very Good modem (finally), some problems
Well first of all i just recently bought the modem and i have to say i am very proud of it except that sometimes the palm cant find it even after changing batteries. If you have aol you can go on aol but its hard to get on lets say amazon.com or .... Because aol doesnt support that kind of stuff i guess so i was disappointed. But when i went on aol on it it was very fast and didnt have alot of problems. So if you have compuserve, earthlink, at&t world net, netcom, shore, mindspring , ibm global network i think it will work for you. Overall very nice product.

Need an Extra Serial Port that won't kill battery life?!
Socket Communications keeps bringing the handheld market some of the lowest power consuming PCMCIA and CF devices around, and the Serial I/O CF card is no exception! I use it primarily on my HP 200LX palmtop when I need an extra serial port for a mouse, and it has almost no noticeable affects on my battery life! My friend borrows it to connect his HPC (which doesn't have serial ports) to his cell phone whenever I'm around. He should buy his own already! And of course, it's small enough to keep tucked away in your carry bag unnoticed just in case of an emergency.

Everything a PDA user could ask for-- almost
Ever since changing from a paper planner to a PDA, I'd been scouring the web for a cool case to carry it in. I found one I liked pretty well, it had room for credit cards and my palm but not really anyplace to store cash. Okay, if you wadded the bills up carefully they could go in this one pocket, but because they were folded a couple of times this quickly got bulky and besides, there was still no where to put my change. So I'd wind up carrying my pda case inside a purse, so I could still have access to my wallet and checkbook. There went the convenience of having such a small and smart planner-- with the purse I was carrying around something bigger and bulkier than my old paper planner!

I was very excited when I finally came across this item at Amazon. It's got room for almost everything, plenty of pockets to put things in, lots of credit card slots and a nice, big zippered compartment behind the checkbook holder that was perfect for un-folded bills and even spare change! It's all in a sturdy backpack-like material and closes smartly with a zipper. What more could a girl ask for?

Just one thing. It needs to have some sort of a pocket on the outside for my cell phone, and then it will truely have everything on my wish list. For now, I am clipping my phone to the outside flat pocket, but I'd like something that protects the face of my phone better, and it makes me nervous to rely soley on the clip for the safety of my phone.

Still, it was an excellent choice and one I would make again, I still haven't seen anything I like better. With the exception of the cell phone issue, it really is a smart, stylish all-in-one organizer for all your stuff in one place, and it keeps everything beautifully organized.

    Fits Your 505 Too!
This soft, touchable leather case will accept the 500/505. The Palm V rail won't work, but add a patch of velcro to the right hand side and you'll have a tailored case for your new Palm. Not perfect, but close until the "real" 500/505 cases debut. The added matching business card case is just pure gravy! You can leave it tucked in place or carry seperately. This case is put together well, the contrasting stitching adds interest and at this price it's a true bargain.

    Great case, misleading color
I like this case very much. It provided everything I was looking for with an added bonus of having a removeable business card holder. My only gripe is that the color is misleading. I was expecting a dark burgundy/wine. The color is more of a reddish brown.

    Nice investment
This is a very nice investment for the Palm. I recently bought it at Amazon and I really don't think I can find a shield like this that can beat the price. It's quite hard to stick on the Palm, but after that, you'll never be scared of scratches on your screen. Just think, buy a shield now and don't wait for your Palm to need a replacement screen that will cost hundreds. This is definitely a must-buy.

    Very good stylus
I like this new trend of collapsing stylus - takes a few seconds to get used to, but pulling them out of the device or the portfolio elastic naturally extracts and "locks" them for use, and saves space otherwise. A bit pricey, but good quality - more likely to lose than break.
