Ok for GeoCaching, good portability but poor battery lifeThe main pro for this unit (other than price) is size - it's smaller than the next products up the line and easier to just stick in your pocket.
The main con is battery life. The amount of time you get out of 2 AAAs is not so hot. You'll eat up a pair of batteries every time you go out. I counter this by only turning the unit on to get my bearings. With a device that uses AA batteries I would be able to leave it on and use the tracklog/backtrack features. I think about it...
Some other factors to consider;
Display - once you go up above the basic etrex yellow unit the garmin units have higher-res displays, which are nice.
Connectivity - you can do ok without it, but this model is the only one that does not allow waypoint download (not sure about the 201.) Experienced geocachers favor the higher-end models with more memory. They load large numbers of cache waypoints into memory and are ready to go no matter where they are in their home area. If you're a more casual hiker/cacher, then the cheaper models do just as good a job - even this one.
Mapping - the gekkos and the etrex yellow will show you where your waypoints are in relation to each other, but don't show any other features. The more expensive models can do natural features and even uploaded topo maps.
You can GeoCache with almost any GPS. The Etrex yellow is the standard, but this has served me well. Happy Caching!
Great for a runner!I used mine for the first time this past weekend!
Nothing but pleasedGeko 101:
Pros-
1. Small! It's about the size of a cell phone
2. Lightweight. Because it's so small, it should be obvious that it's very light.
3. Accurate. Even though it doesn't have WASS capabilities it is just as accurate at times.
4. Waterproof. You never know when you might need it.
5. Features. It has just about everything you need or want (minus a detailed map) including when you'll arrive at your destination, speed, elevation, and all different units of measure.
6. Ease of use. The five button configuration makes it easy to use. Let's face it, if you find it difficult,[you shouldn't].
Cons-
1. It's not the greatest GPS ever made, but what do you expect for [the money]?
2. Batteries. This unit takes 2 AAA's. Although life is not a problem (12hrs.) unless you own something else that takes AAA batteries, sometimes they can be a pain.
3. PC compatibility. There's no way to link the Geko 101 to your PC. Oh well, even if you could, it would be $...more for the software.

- 12-channel GPS receiver; WAAS enabled for up to 3 meter accuracy
- 1 MB of built-in memory for additional point of interest downloads
- Large, easy-to-read display; 9-key keypad for quick access to software features
- Rugged, waterproof design; Quadifiler Helix antenna for superior tracking in harsh environments
- Software includes 9 graphic navigation screens, storage for up to 500 waypoints and 20 routes, best fish and game time calculator

Grerat product, user interface could be better. Love it.Overall I am very pleased with the unit. I like the fact that it allows some customization. For intance, one can choose which screens are shown (for example some views are not usefull for geochaching).
My biggest complaint is that the SporTrak, like many electronic devices, has a user interface that appears to have been designed by engineers without any "human factors" experts on the team. Its not a really big deal, but if the user interface were logically thought out I'd have given it a 5 rather than a 4.
Particularly since I only use it ocassionally, I find myself frustrated sometimes by the not-very-intuitive steps need to program in new waypoints and selecting a destination.
Very good unit and a very good value.
Nice replacement for the 315Highly recommend this little unit for basic GPS functions.

Good cradle - heavy power supplyHowever, I had hoped I could also use it as a travel charger. It can work that way, but the power supply is heavy and so it is not optimal for that purpose.
Great things come in small packages.I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cool looking, small sized replacement or spare.
The cradle that should have come with the Tungsten T3

Glad I Upgraded
Excelent option for palm loversI bought this unit recently, and love it. The screen is sharp (screen protector is a must before any use) and colourful. The dual card option (memory stick & CF) is scarse in PalmOS PDAs. I am a pediatrician an use both 1GB CF & 512MB MSPro cards. If you need to store a lot of data for reference or database needs, then NX-73V or NX-80V is for you. The difference: 5MB more (real) RAM and 1.3MP camera for NX80V. But NX73V is comparable in use and has a beautiful black case.
JackFlash is a must to take use of 15MB aditional FlashROM memory available inside the NX73V, so you take many files off RAM (to cards or FlashROM) to make space available.
Hope Palm & others will offer dual card capability in the future for PalmOS, but it would be unlikely.
I like it!I've found myself taking it wherever I'm going (which is the point of a PDA!!!). This never happened before with my older PDA's because they were simply calendars and phonebooks... I enjoy having the camera on me at random times. Taking a little picture of my favorite dish at a restaurant or capturing a great picture of my dog at the park. Those are times you always wished you had brought your digicam but never had it on you!
The DECUMA input sucks... you need to write really neatly and separate e a c h l e t t e r so that it knows what you're talking about. I much prefer Graffiti 2. Graffiti 2 is soooo much cooler than Graffiti 1 that I have been using previously. BUT best of all, this thing has a QWERTY keyboard. I cannot stress how much nicer it is to use the QWERTY. I haven't used the stylus much at all. Most of my inputs are now a process of using my fingertip and then using the keyboard. It REALLY is much faster.
I also enjoy the fact that the thing doesn't have to boot up to get to the digicam or the voice recorder. One click of either button and the unit automatically snaps to the application you are requesting. I am enjoying taking oral notes with the voice record feature when I'm on the go and don't have time to type.
Overall, I'd suggest that you also check out the NX80 due to the better camera. I think I'll buy an NX80 eventually, but right now, for the price, the 73V does exactly what I need without costing TOO much.

An extra cradle makes all the differenceI found the price to be reasonable, considering the fact that it's a model and manufacturer specific interface.
Works great out of the box, no complications, and has quickly become part of my technology toolbox.
Sony Cradle vs. iConcept USB Sync Cord
A Sync Cord and Charger - Separately or Together! Cool! The flexibility is accomplished by fitting each piece with its own adapter plug -- so that either can be attached directly to the PDA. (The back of the cradle also accepts the charger's plug so that the two units can be used together.)
When combined, the two operate as a normal desktop charge-up-your-PDA type sync cradle.
But when used separately -- as I do -- the sync cradle makes for a great portable sync cord (which I carry with my laptop, no AC plug-in required, thank you very much!); and I use the power cord to recharge my Clie overnight -- in any room of my house (since, as a power cord only, attaching it to my PC isn't necessary, hooray!).
Since I had a bad experience buying a non-Sony (iConcepts) sync cable (that had no sync button, get that!, making data transfer impossible), its nice to know that I can still obtain both functions -- charger and sync cord -- by buying just one Sony-made cradle for my Clie. Cool!
