Ultimate companion
This is something I have been waiting for years. In fact, even had a business plan to manufacture travel companions of this sort. True to what it means, the TV has a crystal clear LCD panel and CD music with AM/FM radio. For the sight-seeing soul in everyone it is a wonderful companion during lonely hours and soporific stretches in a long-awaited vacation. Warning! try not to take this into the jungles ! It will turn out to be one lifeless companion !!

Convenient built in speaker but lacking in other features
The strong point of this EVR-150 is that it produces reasonably loud voice recording quality with no hissing or background noises. It can even record voices from 20 ft and is great for classroom lectures. I have the EVR-500 model and was so impressed by the voice recording quality that I bought this EVR-150. The only other reason for buying is the built-in speaker which makes playback so much easier and not being always tangled with earphone wires.

Some drawbacks. First, you must use its provided software to download files. This player will not show as a removable drive in My Computer window. Its software is not as useful as using the regular drag and drop like most other MP3 players. E.g. you have to go through some steps to re-arrange the order of the files in your player. You cannot click the mouse to play the file that is in the player folder. Also, downloading and uploading via its software is extremely slow and cumbersome.

It can only recharge its battery when your computer is on, and not even when laptop is on standby mode. To recharge, the battery must be inside and player turned on. You have to ensure that the battery is not fully drained or you will never be able to recharge it. Unlike other MP3 players, without the battery you cannot even use it as a flash drive. Seems like it was not designed to be used as storage flash drive. It can only be used with computers that have its software installed, and this severely limits its portability.

If you download an audio file ripped from your CD that is protected and try to play it, the player will freeze up, and you can only shut down by removing the battery, then re-insert battery, in order to operate the player again.

It does not receive as many FM stations as its sibling EVR-500 or my other MP3 brands. Also static problems.

The tiny LCD is fuzzy and hard to read even when brightness is raised to max.

Does not use folders, can only place files at root level, so you have to flip through many files to select your desired file.

In conclusion, the two good things it has for me are its built-in speaker and voice recording playback quality. The drawbacks described above can be frustrating if you add/delete files frequently, since it comes with max 256 MB.

Hope this review helps your search.

Oldie but goodie
This radio is no longer manufactured since cherokee (wireless marketing) went out of business in 1999. A company called entel in europe makes the same radio today only in europe. It is called the eurowave and operates on the licence free pmr446 frequencies. When the radio arrived it would not turn on. Since there was no possibility of warranty I took the radio apart and discovered that the battery contacts were not installed properly. Now it works fine. The radios is constructed well and audio is clear. I like the small size. On the downside it used AAA batteries which do not last as long as the AA batteries. I use rechargeable AAA nimh batteries which work fine. All around great radio...too bad it is no longer manufactured.

Pretty little stereo, in red...
I just purchased this little stereo for my bedroom and it's wonderful. Very sleek in design and I enjoy the classic knobs and features. The remote control only works on the cd player and that's a bit disappointing. But, it puts out a lot of sound for a small unit and it fits just about anywhere.

Convenient!
This replaces the FA-CH charger and will function with FABP battery pack installed or removed from the FRS units. The FA-CH only allow one pack installed and one pack removed from the FRS.

Note: the FA-CH comes with a car adapter cord but the FA-CR deosn't.

Good Overall
The rechargeable batteries are extrememly hard to install. Eventually (after breaking one of them) we figured out that the back clip needs to be removed before the battery plate can slide off easily. No directions whatsoever regarding this.

The units float around a bit in the rechargable units - you have to tinker with them a bit before they make contact and start to charge.

Lastly, the plastic packaging is that industrial strength variety -- very difficult to open -- and the plastic is not recycleable.

Overall though, good. They've been a great solution to keeping track of our kids in the neighborhood and keeping them from screaming through the house.

What a great radio!
The FRS-100 Radio is the best radio I have ever used! I have two 100's and 1 300. The 300 is slightly better but the 100's are still really nice. The 100's are easy to use and made by the most trusted company, Cobra. One switch can change you to channel 1 or 2 and you can alert other users with the call button. It makes lots of beeps so that they know they want to be spoken to. They can also go further then 2 miles. I have gone 7 miles and still had great reception! Some say Motorola has better radios, but they don't. They are just more expensive.

Good range and audio output
I purchased a pair of these a month ago, and tested the range at a local park. I got range of over one mile, although the audio started to break up at the extreme end of the range. The only thing they lack is the CTCSS feature (commonly mislabeled as a 'privacy codes', since using CTCSS does NOT keep your conversation private

Now I take them anytime I go out with my kids. I'm very happy with them, and they work with NiMH batteries.

worth the money
As it often happens, new model *LOST* some nice features of older model (frs 250):

1) swing antenna 2) belt clip 3) strap

also, "call" feature is not compatible with older model, so if you want additional stations -- you can talk, but "call" tone from old model won't get to the new one.

Battery indicater is not very linear and once its not full-- get ready to replace 4 AAAs. When batteries are low, high tone pitch replaces incoming voice until you lower the volume

Apart from that, Cobra provides perfect communicator for the money with all you need -- 14x38 channels, good battery life, weather resistant. No need to pay more to get Motorolla.

To consider: 1) audiovox (model with 14x38 channels) 2) higher end Cobra with vibra alert 3) never buy FRS with less than 14x38 channels as air is saturated with users!

Nice, but not perfect.
It's one of those "you get what you paid for" type of radios. VERY cheap, and works great for someone like me who doesn't care much about quality. I'm pretty hard on electronics, but this one lasted much longer than I expected for the less than [money] I paid for it. Nice product, nice design.
