Uniden GMR885-2CK GMRS--- Great radio
This is better than audiovox or cobraThen I got these Uniden and they are the BEST I have ever had. The menus and the buttons are just perfect. Unlike the others this one had a separate menu to change the channel instead of being in the same menu as the vox, lock, privacy, etc. It's rating is 5 mi without boost and 8 mi with boost. And w\o boost it went three times as far as the audiovox which is rated 6 mi. Then with the boost I got another mile going over hills. And I love how it comes on instanly. Oh and the belt clip is very sturdy. I can't even force it off unlike the audiovox. Also not as alkward to have it on.
I usually am quite a critic and probably never gave a 5 star review but Uniden deserves it they definitely exceeded my expectations.
p.s. I never tried the motoral but after I looked at the reveiws I didn't want one. I Hope this helps you decide!

Best cost/benefit stereo radio cassette recorder
In search of...
good value

Indestructable!I have dropped it innumerable times. It has been thrown in a bookbag with overstuffed books over 5 years of undergrad work and now grad. work. I have even used two adaptors at the wrong voltage and fried the adaptors; yet the player works perfectly. One time it hit the ground so hard it partly came apart; but I just gave it a firm 'tap' and it fit back together just right. Other than purely superficial marring, my cassette player/recorder is PERFECT.
My lectures came out clearly enough to be able to study from them, and my voice lessons do not have a significant amount of distortion, so I have a catalog of years of study with fairly high quality recordings (not audition quality obviously).
I am especially fond of the speaker function, where I can play it out loud if I am in private and not have to use headphones. Also, the "pause" function would be great for students like me who don't have time in their lives to baby their stuff; if it goes off in your bookbag, nothing plays or records, it is just in perpetual "pause" and seems to use much less battery power. I also LOVE the battery sensor, which tells you how much battery power you have left.
The only downfalls I can note are that the reverse and fastforward buttons are not marked clearly enough.
the Little wonder portable recorder Aiwa HS JS 275I have one, and would like to replace it for my academic use.

no other product like itIt works fine on my Toshiba e750 ppc as well. Reception is average, so only count on getting strong stations. The on-screen tuning is the easiest and most accurate radio tuning, though.
just one more goodie for my toshiba e740

GREAT SOUND - GREAT RECEPTIONI love radios and own the Tivoli Model One, the CCradio, and now this one.
The sound quality AND reception on FM are great on this radio, and better than you will get on any Clock Radio. Probably any radio other than the Model One which is equal in reception on FM, and also has great sound.
But I did not expect the not only great reception, but amazing fidelity of the AM on this Boston Acoustics, which is better than it is on the Model One, and just as good as the Ccradio.
The best feature of this radio, is that you can mix AM and FM stations together in the presets, which are not from just 4 or 5 buttons, but in a rotating knob. You can put stations in any order, and have an FM station, than an AM, or any combination in the presets, and not have to change the band to AM and FM like in all other radios when using presets between the two.
Sleep functions, snooze that you can extend snooze periods just by how many times you hit the snooze button to add more snooze time, just a fantastic radio that you will never be sorry you purchased, and realize that the high price was well worth it.
Only a few decades ago, most people did not have stereo systems that sounded as good as this radio. Don't be fooled by it's size, the bass response on this tiny radio is as if it had a subwoofer attached to it.
Usually in a radio, the AM is an after thought and never any good, but the AM tuner in this radio had as much quality in design as the FM part.
Just listening to a voice of an announcer on an FM station will be enough to realize how amazing the sound is on this radio.
I will be buying more of these radios for other rooms of the house.
I still love the Tivoli Audio Model One. I, as many others, can not find a favorite between these two, they are both great in their own ways and I love both of them equally in sound and reception on the FM, but for a bedside radio, then THIS one is the winner hands down.
I took my Ccradio away from the bed, and replaced it with this one.
Great sound and easy to use
My Favorite Clock RadioThey weren't kidding. No other radio or tuner I've owned beats the Recepter in that regard, and most of them cost more. It's exceptionally good at picking out weak and distant signals from among closer and stronger ones. The radio has connections for specialty aerials, but I've gotten along fine with just the wire antenna that came with it.
The simple controls are nearly perfect. I like having rotary volume and tuning controls, instead of all those tiny push-buttons that populate a lot of electronics. The station presets and clock functions are very easy to use, and the display is informative and easy to read.
None of this would mean much if the Recepter didn't sound good, and it does. The vented cabinet and "BassTrac" circuit make for more bass than I thought was possible from such a small radio. Enough, in fact, that it can be a bit much if the Recepter is placed too close to a corner, or too far back on a bookshelf. Keep it a little distance from a wall or other boundary though, and the boominess goes away.
I'm an FM radio nut, and I tried out a number of other hi-fi clock radios: the Bose Wave, Cambridge SoundWorks 730, and Tivoli's Model Three. I liked all of them, but the Recepter was the best combination of features, sound, and price.

"Breaker one-nine. . ."By the way, what's your twenty? I just passed a hungry bear with a radar gun over by the 299 marker, and it's not Krispy Kremes he's cravin'.
Say, this Cobra radio's got 40 channels. Let's drop down to channel one-five, 10-4? It's easy for me to do, good buddy, 'cause all of the controls are right here on my handset. Why, this radio's as sweet as the pickled pig's feet you can order at Paul's Pork Palace on the state line.
What's that? Come back, good buddy, you say you want to know what the weather's gonna do? You're in luck, 'cause my Cobra CB radio has access to 10 weather channels. Looks like we got a squall line formin' right on our backside; you'd best put the petal to the metal and catch up with us or you're gonna get wet. And don't worry about that pesky bear: I'm westbound in my Freightliner, along with two bullhaulers and Krazy Ken, who's drivin' a tankard full of diesel. We got us a little convoy, 10-4, so you bring your little Chevy in here with us and we'll be your rockin' chair!
So come on up, good buddy, and I'll tell you more about my Cobra Weatherband CB Radio. Remember to keep the bugs off your grill and the lot lizards off your tail, and let's roll this truckin' convoy!
Quite a HandfulCB radios are limited to low-power broadcasting at 4 watts or less. This radio provides maximum power allowed by law and is capable of some pretty incredible range under the right conditions. With a properly tuned, high-quality antenna, I have had coversations with others using the same radio up to 9 miles away. Under normal circumstances, 1-2 miles is more realistic.
As for features, this one has several:
- Scan (all 40 channels in sequence)
- Dual Scan (two channels of your choice)
- Memory
- Lock (so the hand controls don't get reset by accident)
- Weatherband (10 NOAA frequencies)
- Last 3 channels
- SoundTracker (like Dolby noise reduction)
I use mine in a 1999 Jeep Wrangler where there is little extra space for another device. It fits perfectly on my console with the small box hidden away inside.
I can listen to truckers while I am on the highway, talk to my friends when we go off-highway, or scan the channels for both when driving to and from the trails. In the two years I have used mine, it has never given me any problems. It is very sturdy and should stand up to hard use.
I purchased the optional external speaker so that it would be easier to hear but many people find the unit works well right out of the box!
There might be bigger, badder CB's out there, but this one is a peach!
