Disappointed
It's pretty disappointing when you think you are going to get 2 radios and only get one. It would be nice if it said exactly how many you would recieve. What point is it to only have one radio anyway.

the cheapest radio and is the best

Very Disappointed!
Purchased this radio and set it up by the manual. This radio will NOT operate with AC power alone. It also requires 3 AA batteries to operate the digital readout. Within the first 3-4 days the batteries were drained dead and unit would not operate.
I changed to new batteries and again in about 3-4 days, thoses batteries were dead. I replaced with the 3 set of batteries and once again, about 3-4 days they were dead again. The radio was set on "Alert Only" so, therefore would not constantly play, only when receiving a weather bulletin. Only once during my 2 week ownership did the unit alert, and that was during a weekly test from NOA radio. This unit was absolutely terrible. Thank goodness for the good people at Amazon, I was able to return this crap back at no cost to me, and a full refund. I strongly suggest that you look at another specific brand besides a battery eating monster like this one was. Very Disappointed in this brand.

Great product
I disagree with one of the other reviews posted here. The WR-100 does not need batteries to operate and functions extremely well if programed with the correct SAME codes. . Our radio was extremely easy to program and was operable within 5 minutes of opening the box. Make sure you refer to the instructions and acquire the SAME County codes via the NOAA website: www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/indexnw.htm

I highly recommend this model to anyone who might live in a dangerous weather region, I live in the heart of tornado alley.

This is a great product which has not failed my family yet. Please make sure you check into the products you need.

A good buy
I recently purchased the Midland WR100 for my mother-in-law's home. I own the Midland 74-200 radio and it has worked well. The WR100 is much easier to program than the 74-200. The manual is much easier to read than the somewhat cryptic 74-200 manual. Either radio is a great choice. Features are similar for each. The main difference is the LCD display. The WR100 faces the top (parallel to the ground), while the 74-200 faces the front (perpendicular to the ground.) This may be an issue in regards to placement.

Designed by someone who doesn't sleep?
The problems I have with this unit are numerous:

1) The display is backlit *only* when you press the face of the unit. Which means you can't tell what time it is at night unless you reach over and push the face.

2) The phyiscal orientation of the unit determines which alarm you hear, but the controls to turn off the alarm are only on one side. You will have to pick up the unit, turn it around, hunt down the little alarm on/off button, and put it back down on the side you want. No thanks.

3) The sleep function only sounds the alarm three times. Once you've snoozed the third time, the alarm won't sound again until the next morning. A great way to miss work :(

Yes, it looks cool; yes, the alarms are very nice and will wake even a sound sleeper. But if any of the negatives above sound annoying to you, you'll probably find this unusable.

A perfect alarm clock...
Following the previous reviewer's comments I went ahead and bought this clock. Having serious problems waking up this toy saved my semester... The sounds are definitely going to wake you up and the design is cool. It will take you a sec to understand what the rotation does (it is a gravity sensor with 4 predefined positions that selects the sound according to the way you rotate and place the clock). It may work with batteries but it has a "battery low" indicator and an 1 min internal battery so that you won't have to reset the clock every time you change them. Radio reception is good, though I was never interested in that feature...It is the best alarm clock I ever had...strongly recommended...gj philips!

Perfect for the sound sleeper like me
I was searching for a clock that was capable of actually waking me. This is it. The "sonar" alarm does actually wake me up. Have no fear though, the buzzer and frog alarms offer others looking for less of a jolt a more serene wake up. The radio even picks up my favorite public radio station even though it doesn't have that strong of a signal. I also like that the display is not glowing all night, but if you push the dial it lights up; sometimes the glow from an alarm clock keeps me from sleeping.
The only remotely negative thing I can say is that it is battery operated. I hope it doesn't go through batteries quickly but I haven't had it long enough to tell. Also, when the description says you "Rotate the clock to change the alarm" it means the entire clock. It is a sphere and has guides on the back that keep it from rolling away.

Piece of JUNK!
This device is flimsy and cheap. It broke within 1 hour of use. The sound is average at best. The error I got on this CD Player wasn't even listed in the troubleshooting guide.
STAY AWAY FROM PHILIPS MERCHANDISE.

THIS PRODUCT IS AWESOME
The person who made the review about it being junk....they probably are not careful about electronics and ruined it right out of the box. THIS PRODUCT IS AWESOME! IT EVEN HAS A REMOTE! THE MOST EXPENSIVE SONYS DON'T HAVE THAT! EVERYONE SHOULD BUY ONE!

Good quality, good sound
For a little boombox, the sound on this system is more than adequate. Like nearly any boombox, I wouldn't want this to be my main stereo for filling a house with sound unless I was in a studio or dorm room, but it's great as a supplemental radio in the bedroom, kitchen, etc. I have had mine for about a month, and it has been a perfect stero for my bedroom. Nice sound (even on low volume), and the remote is very nice to have for a boombox.

While not well known in the American market, Philips is known the world over for making very good products. I wouldn't let the reviewer below, who had a SINGLE bad experience (as could happen with any product), to dissuade people from buying very good products from this company.

A piece of junk - deserves 0 stars.
I got this because the black model had a couple of favorable reviews. From now on I only trust the negative ones. RCA should never have made this & Amazon should not be selling it. Caveat emptor!

Excellent Value!
I got this radio for our crew. The AM is a little weak - - But, where we work, that's expected. The FM and cassette are terrific. I was shocked to be able to tune in to FM stations and get such a clear signal. We now have music, both AC and CD option. Which helps, cause we sometimes have problems with available power plugs in stock area or when we have to pitch-in outside. This unit is light in weight, heavy on RCA expectations. A great product for a nice price.

Cute for the office!
I purchased this as a gift for a relative. It seems that there is office has been having security difficulties - - things vanish so quickly. This portable AM/FM and Cassette does the trick. It's lightweight, easy to slip in deep desk drawer and plays great for the office crew. Gotta have music. Excellent too, for the price!

    Nice radio but some nitpicks
    - a nice radio and top rated by Radio Netherland

    - here are my nitpicks:

    1. LCD backlight only stays on for 7 seconds

    2. 1KHz tuning increment setting is inconvenient (you have to push in and turn the rotary knob first, and it only lasts for one tuning session)

    3. too few SW memory settings

    4. the back stand is useless unless you use the radio while sitting at a desk - a much better approach is to take an 8x10 sheet of plexiglass, heat and bend to make a stand so the radio sits more upright for use...

    5. the build feels 'flimsy' as the radio doesn't have a solid feel

    6. there is a discernable (1-second) delay when entering digits in the direct-access keypad - you'll need to get used to the delay, and the keys require more pressure than you'd expect for a keypad..

    7. battery life is not great

    Very nice radio, good price.
I purchased this radio after buying and using a Grundig G-2000A for about a year. The Sangean is a little larger, with perhaps a three inch speaker versus a two inch speaker for the Grundig. The Grundig has only moderately good sound quality for AM and FM. This Sangean has surprisingly good sound quality on AM and FM, particularly for a radio this size. I put it in our kitchen, and when someone is down there playing it I noticed that I can hear it upstairs and the sound is really like a much bigger radio with a larger speaker. The sound is clear and has very good tonal quality and richness. This Sangean has settings for both music and voice programs. Tuning and reception are also good. The Grundig is kind of a battery hog, that will run down in around three weeks with moderate use. The Sangean has better battery life with similar use, although I think using the shortwave bands seems to be a greater drain on the batteries of both radios. If you haven't used a shortwave radio before be prepared for a booming and fading pattern of the sound. Both radios have this quality, and it is a characteristic of shortwave transmission. You are likely to find that this will detract from your listening satisfaction with some programs, but again, I would have to give the nod to the Sangean for overall quality on the shortwave tuning and sound. With either radio you certainly can listen to some stations you have never heard on AM and FM. I was listening to a station in Florida one night and then when I changed channels some, I was surprised to find that a Cuban station was coming in pretty clearly. The Sangean also has a small light that changes color to help you determine the strength of radio signals as you adjust the tuning knob to find stations. This Sangean is quite a nice radio, and I think most radio fans will like it.

    My thoughts!
I like my Sangean ATS-505P very much. For such a small radio it packs alot of features in its price range. It has very good frequency reception in all bands; good speaker quality; easy to use controls and buttons and excellent battery life.

You do need to know when and where to use the radio in shortwave mode(this is not the radio's fault). Shortwave does have idiosyncrasies that are not found in AM and FM.

If you are really in to shortwave radio, this radio probably isn't for you. If you are just trying shortwave radio for fun, you won't be disappointed in this model.

    Mine broke
Mine stopped working after a few months. Dont buy this item.

    a nice little radio
Controls are well designed, sound quality is fine for a radio this small; a nice little radio for my desk (which is what I was looking for). My only complaint: raido reception isn't very good unless the headphones are plugged in (to serve as an FM antenna), undermining the nice-little-self-contained-package effect.

    Experience with this unit
The quality of construction of this unit is good and it is very easy to use. The built in speaker is a nice feature but seems under powered and there are no tone controls. The unit also does not have the ability to pull in a good signal in hilly areas so listening can be frustrating in a remote location. Also electrical interferance can be a probelm. But overall quality is good for the money.

    how could you like this
I hated this item it was so bad I couldn't even get it to play

nice product for a nice price
the AZ1040 has pretty good sound (not great) and is easy to use. One of the best features is the digital tuner preset which allows you to preset 30 stations. All of the stations come out well too. The product looks like what a boombox should look like and the only major negative is that it does not have a remote control.

Thanks to electronic fan I convinced my mom into letting me get it I've had it for a week now and it's amazing.

    No wonder Polaroid went bankrupt.......
.......products like this approach the outer limits of absurdity...first, produce a camera that produces photographs so small you need a magnifying glass to view them...now combine it with a similarly "dinky" fm radio...makes Dilbert proud without a doubt.

    It is so much fun!!!!
This camera is a great way to break the ice at parties. I thought the picture would be too small, but the pictures came out pretty clear. The only problem I have is, on occasion, the film will not pull out properly, but it is easy to re-set. Love it!

    So good
