I was happy UNTIL...
I was very pleased and excited when I got this CD alarm/radio. The sound is good, the features work well. It's easy to figure out how everything works and to program the various functions. I loved it. HOWEVER, the second week I had it, CDs started to skip more and more (they play fine on both my other players), which is VERY annoying, since playing CDs to go to sleep and wake up by is mainly what I bought it for...so think about how you are going to be using this one, and how often.

What a wonderful gift this makes
This is a great gift to give. It has a clear sound and the CD player is great. My daughter loves it and she has no excuse not to get out of bed in the morning. The sound is great wakes her right up. I give it 5 stars/

Midland Products Dubious
I own this weather radio, and it has great features...if only it worked properly! Mine has a tendency to come on anytime it feels like it, not just when there's an alert, which can be quite shocking in the middle of the night. I suspect a problem in the electronics. I recenty purchased another model made by Midland, and the buttons on it don't work right, so I'm going to have to return it to the store. I won't be buying another piece of electronics from Midland. If you're looking for a trouble-free weather radio, steer clear!

Constant weather info for the weather junkie
If you are worried about the weather, this is the perfect item for you! You can get up-to-date weather reports 24 hours a day after choosing which source you want. You enter the code for your area on the back, and you're all set! (The instructions are clear and easy.) Best of all, if you travel you can take it with you and reset it for the new place. You have a choice of being alerted in a weather emergency by a red flashing light or by a loud-enough siren. The announcer's voice is monotonic because of the recording, but if you just want the facts, you won't care. It also gives conditions of weather in the ocean for boaters and fishermen. It works even in a power failure because of its backup battery. You won't have to wait until after the daily news report to find out the weather at any time! This is great!

Not simple for users
This radio sounds good at first, but you will need to get an FCC license to operate this radio legally. Most people in the "FRS" market really don't need the extra power, cost and hassle of GMRS. So I'd label this radio "don't try this at home", unless you are a serious GMRS user.

Great Radio
We have purchased Motorola, Kenwood and now like the Midland 75-440 best. Best channel selection, call feature.

High hopes
I waited 4 months for this radio, it looked wonderfull, but looks can be decieving. The raido fit right where I wanted it to go. But when I started using it problems became apparent. The controls were hard to use. The squelch and volume are on one stalk control and are hard to set with out moving each other at the same time. There is no noise blanking system. The squelch circuit is very quick to open therefor letting in a lot of impulse noise that would not be let though on other radios. Then the last straw, the latches holding the removable face plate broke! They were made out of PLASTIC! The radio is going back!

The Professional
I love this great state-of-the-art radio. the features that it has are excellent. the feel that it gives you when the mic is in your hand is just top of the world. the mic has a heavy feel to it which is good because it makes it not feel cheap.

Good but better/cheaper versions to be had
Very useful but does not have S.A.M.E technology that newer versions have. Difficult to find the right channel for your area unless an alert is being broadcast. The battery door on mine broke due to a fairly small plastic tab snapping off. User interface is not intuitive (setting channels and time is not easy without the user's manual).

Handy little device... but don't rely on good reception.
In the year since I received the Oregon Scientific weather radio, its price has dropped dramatically, making it an even more attractive addition to an outdoorsperson's backpack or vehicle. As an avid hiker and camper, I bring along this weatherproof radio on weekend trips to receive weather information and alerts. While the reception has proven limited for some areas I visit, such as state parks not located in close proximity to a NOAA transmitting station, and national parks such as Big Bend -- too remote for me to have even bothered to bring the radio along, the reception within or near cities where most users will in practice find themselves using it, is perfect. The radio is also handy to have around the home, particularly if you don't have any other battery-operated weather alert radio at your disposal. When the power goes out and the weather starts turning nasty, it's extremely handy to turn the radio on Standby so it can alert you to weather watches and warnings in your area.

For the money, I don't think you can go wrong with this little, durable device. The only defect I have noticed with my radio in the year that I've used it is the channel buttons occasionally get stuck and have to be pried out using a pen cap or other small instrument. Annoying, to be sure, but the radio continues to work as expected. Battery life with normal AA batteries is good, although I tend to leave my radio turned completely off unless I suspect weather is approaching or am heading off on a trip.

Not what I expected....
The alarm automatically shuts itself off after an hour, however, if you let it shut off by itself, you have to reset the clock again, it will not go off the next morning, even if the alarm button is set.

The battery back up has worked when my power was out for a few hours, but when I lost power for 4 days, the back up didn't work.

Everything I Need!
This alarm clock has everything I need in an alarm clock. It has the battery back up, the 24 hour reset feature, and large numbers on the display. Who needs anything else?

No Power
I have had this system for a few years now, and it has about 2 Watts of total power. Do not get this stero if you are looking for a high-wattage stero system. It has no bass at all!! But If you are looking for a little wimpy system to listen to country music, then this would be a great product for you.

Great Value!
This three-piece boombox from Philips sounds terrific! For the money, it sounds better than any of the other brands at the same price. It doesn't have a lot of watts but it sounds like it does. Great gift idea for a high school grad!

OK for the price but missing several major features.
I've owned the Philips MC-M570 shelf system for a few months and I am generally satisfied with its performance and features. I especially like the USB PC Link that allows you to play your PC sound through the system. However, there are several features missing that I find are really necessary for me. The unit lacks a balance control, separate bass and treble controls (not even a tone control), a cassette deck, and there are no line out jacks.

A balance control is a necessity if you put the unit's speakers in any place other than the "ideal" positions. The lack of bass and treble controls can be tolerated if you are happy with one of the nine preset equalization settings. The problem is that you can select only one of these at a time and cannot "mix and match" combinations of them. I am not particularly happy with any one of the preset settings, primarily because they all produce too much bass for my liking. A separate bass control would correct this.

Although the unit has 5 CD trays that are nicely arranged, a single cassette deck would be beneficial for recording from CD or the tuner. If it at least had "line out" jacks you could pipe the output to another device. The headphone output can be used for this but then the sound is muted. Since I only paid about a hundred bucks for the unit I decided that it was not worth returning it but I will probably relegate it to the guest room as soon as I find somrthing better. this has it all, almost...
I've had this system, for a couple of months, now. It is really a good one. The sound quality is superb, there is no distortion, in the 200watts of speaker power. I was disappointed that it does not have a dual cassette player/recorder, but the Pc USB feature, more than compensates. The only other thing was the remote control, it has no number pad, so you have to go forward, or back, if you don't want to go in disc order, or you don't want to program. This is an excellent bargain, especially when compared to similar products available, and there aren't many, with these features.

Electronics wiz
I think that the RCA RP1610 Portable AM/FM radio with Headphones is a reasonably good machine. The sound comes in nice and clear, and it is good for running, but the way it is constructed, it seems to be made out of cheep material. Besides that though, it is a pretty good personal radio.

Uncomplicated elegance
With sever winter around the corner, you dont want to be caught in a storm...stay informed... this RCA radio can be a life saver. Tune into weather reports and bulletins, and at other times, listen to "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" for the hundredth time this week!

The headphones fit snugly, and the static is surprisingly low for a radio that (is so inexpensive)! It is extremely easy to switch between the modes, and you dont need to be ambidextrous like me to do that. Use either hand, its a snap!

Also makes a nice surprise gift for that person "who has everything". Nothing can kill the radio star!

small radio, small sound
I purchased this radio mainly because of the built in speaker and that part of the stereo works great. the sound of it is amazing for the small size. BUT when i plug in my headphones(my own, not the ones they supplied) it sounded so flat and hollow. Also sangean products have a reputation for getting good reception but this radio does not. My CHEAPER sony walkman gets better reception with a lot less hiss. I am going to return this radio and either try a different brand or give a higher quality sangean a try.

Small radio, large ccapacity!
Well, I've to admit that these days I no longer listen to
radios, for I shift to web-based radios through the Internet.
However, sangean was my favorite shortwave radio brand for:

1, goog sound quality;
2, capable of receiving lots of more-than-you-can-imangine
radio programs, for example, English speaking north Korean
news program.
