The design is both a curse and a blessing
Suprisingly comfortable design and good soundOverall, these are very good heaphones but seem a bit overpriced. Many people with long hair or earings may find them uncomfortable or hard to put on and take off because the headband goes *behind* your head not over your head. However, big heads and big ears are not a problem as I have both.
Some major pros to the design is that it is very comfortable for me (even for long term use for homework and stuff), very durable (mine have lived in my backpack for the years they survived), and generally nice looking (especially the G52 -- I could do without the yellow on the G57s).
However, no matter how you slice it you are definitely paying a premium for the Sony name. They are durable and sound very good, but for the money you could buy better sounding headphones from Koss or Aiwa and enjoy your music more. Definitely look at other brands, and if you like these Sony's the most go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Incredible SoundThe highs and the lows are captured perfectly, adding a hithero unknown dimension to your listening (and viewing) pleasure. You certainly cannot go wrong with the price either!
Be warned, however, that these headphones are heavy. While, not a problem, should you be sitting in one place and listening to the audio, by no means will you be comfortable walking around in these headphones. (Hence the four and not five stars.)
Decent but Not Flawless
Useful Reference WorkThe Sony MDR-V600's may be as close to a "universal," accurate set of headphones as you can get for under a hundred and fifty. Compared to my MDR-6's, which my son "borrowed," they're more comfortable and the sound is more "flat" (i.e. accurate, faithful, undoctored). If your tastes extend beyond contemporary pop and you're serious about sound "fidelity," beware of those "DJ" models, with the bass boost, brain-shaker and virtual-reality features. And as a previous reviewer has pointed out, this model is identical with the higher-priced "professional" phones Sony is listing as model 7506. Perhaps Sony plans to make the 700's the only available models (call it "cost-effective marketing), because there are currently some great deals on the MDR-V600's.
My only "complaint" is the extreme degree to which the V600's seal off all outside sound, making me feel like I'm trapped in a cocoon (they're ideal for anti-social or solipsist personalities). These phones are a pleasure now and then, but I'm still happy with my Sennheiser PX-100's for 80% of my listening.

- Frequency response: 40 to 20,000 Hz
- Lightweight, portable stereophone for music on the go
- Collapsible design for easy storage and portability
- Volume control on the cord for easy level adjustment
- Straight dual entry 4-foot cord

Collapsible, but not Compact - Still a Good BuyCord length is a major plus, especially if you're plugged into your computer. Not once have I rolled away from my desk and had my headphones ripped off my ears with these. 4 feet of cord is ample and the volume control built into the cord is a nice feature.
I found the sound quality to be very good with no noticeable distortion.
4 stars instead of 5, as the Koss Stereophones are "collapsible", though they are not very "compact". Also, they're fairly stiff when trying to collapse and a bit awkward that it feels as if the inexpensive plastic may break - so far so good though.
You could spend quite a bit more money for a much better pair of headphones, but if price is a concern, or if the highest quality product isn't an issue and you're looking for a standard pair of everyday headphones, you can't go wrong with these...
Excellent sound quality!
The best of their class, by far.And with the warranty I purchased with these headphones, I can break them and go right down the street to RadioShack, and replace them with a fresh new pair, as often as I want for free, until nearly 2006! And I love the fact that while my portable MD is snuggly in my inside coat pocket, with my coat zipped up, I can still run the cord down the front outside of the coat, then up into my pocket (thanks to the cord being long enough for this procedure), thus giving me easy access to the in-line volume slider. Even the volume slider itself is noteworthy, in the way the max volume level is at the bottom, while volume-down is at the top position of the slider. At first, one might think this is upside-down, but somehow it just feels convenient and natural after a while.

- 15 to 25,000 Hz frequency response
- Titanium-layered diaphragm design fosters accurate sound reproduction
- Straight dual-entry 5-foot cord with 0.125-inch and 0.25-inch stereo plugs
- Inline volume control
- Adjustable headband with sling and open-ear format

ummm, not sure about everyone else1) yeah the look cool, but all the behind-the-head headphones make it nearly impossible to rest your head on the seat of a bus or anything where you might need to just relax
2) i went through 2 pairs (my first cd player broke down so i got another one that incidently came with the same headphones) and each one ended up breaking on the sides
3) they don't want to sit in properly, each pair had a tendency to get kind of warped and sit funny, and after contorting it back into position a thousand times it just broke
overall: very good sound quality, cool looks, poor design (make sure you have normal head, but then again, i thought i had one too) also, the cord is fairly short

Best Headphones for...
Great Headphones, Superb Value
Incredibly comfortable & portable!I work on the computer for hours at a time, and these headphones are awesome to use for listening to MP3's.. but they are also great for plugging into your stereo or CD player. The sound is amazing regardless!
These headphones are also great for travel.. if you want to bring them on the plane, or to work-out or in the car. They just fold up into a small shape. Headphones are also incredibly durable.. I've had mine for over a year, and even after the dog chewed on the headset a little, they are still at optimum performance. An excellent product at a great price!

not high quality
Comfortable, mid-price, closed headphoneI've had them up pretty loud, and the only problem I've noticed is that they will start to overload if the bass is pushed too hard a a high volume.
For my ears, they seem to require a bit of a push on the high end as well, but that's not a problem to adjust with EQ.
They're comfortable to wear for hours, though the closed design does tend to make your ears a bit warm and it can get uncomfortable after long periods of wearing.
The cord is thin, and detachable, which is a great feature.
If you're looking for low cost headphones for just about any but the most demanding use, these will fit the bill.
Very good value. The sound is crisp and clear, and compares very well to more expensive phones I've heard in stores. Bass response is good, so much so that I don't use the Megabass as much on my portable.
Speaking of portables, these will work adequately with a portable player (max volume just a tad bit low), unlike many premium headphones. Of course, you will get best results playing these with a regular stereo.
They are very comfortable and lightweight, so you don't notice them too much. The light weight also helps a little in the portability factor.
One note- Headphones sound a lot better after you break them in for at least a few hours. This one is no different-

Good for ambient noise isolation and good sound. The cord is a bit long, but you can always tie or wrap it up. I have some portable headphones that have only a 36" cord and that's too short, so having this one a bit long is better in my opinion.
They do a pretty good job of isolated the ambient or outside noise when you have them on and they do make you slightly more aware of your own body sounds like breathing, but it's not that big a deal to me at all. I like the fact that I don't hear car traffic or the sounds of others in the gym or treadmill sounds.
The sound quality is pretty good. It has good bass as well as treble. The sound is better than any other portable headphones I have. They don't have the quality of studio like headphones costing $100+, but I don't want to wear studio like headphones when I go out jogging or to the gym. These are quite light and have a very low profile which is nice for when I go out jogging or to the gym.
Comfortable, great for bass heavy musicI really enjoy both headphones, but they are sonically worlds apart. The Sony headphones are a bit easier to insert and sit more comfortably in the ear than the Shures, whose cables have to be looped up and over each ear, newscaster-style. When it comes to ease of use and physical comfort, the Sonys are simply better. Sonically, it is hard to say one set of earphones is objectively better than the other. The Sonys feature a very prominent bottom end while the Shures have tighter bass response and much more mid-range clarity. I would say the Sonys have been engineered to sound "hot" (lots of bass and treble) while the Shures were designed to sound more neutral. In places where a sense of energy is more important than nuance (e.g., at the gym or out jogging) I'd recommend the Sony earphones. For longer periods of more introspective, careful listening, the Shures can't be beat.
Good, not greatThat said, I'm not that pleased with their fit. I've spent the better part of a week fiddling back & forth between the different cushions and finally decided that for my ears I have to use the small size. The catch is that the smalls don't fit *that* well but the next size up is too large to get a good insertion.
All in all I'm satisfied of their value but would recommend seeing if you can find a friend with either these or the EX71s to see what you think of having them in your ears before purchasing. After using these for a week I can see them being used on the bus/plane, but for everyday listening I'm going to keep on using the Apple iPod earphones or just use a much better sounding set of actual headphones for about the same money.

meant for house- not meant for pocket- good for music. Most suited for portable digital music devices. Some of the other "studio" headphones suck up all your portable player's amperage, this one needs less juice to give you louder sound.
I use them with a mp3/fm player, and have found that the mdr's long cord makes for great FM reception, (even when most of its length is folded up somwehere).
These headphones have a weak spot on the headband where two peices of plastic meet. I broke it on one side, duck-taped it fixed, and then broke it on the other side as well, (just for stuffing it in to a jacket pocket). So don't test the plastic. It can't take pressure.
Before you get these ones, look at the Sony MDR-501LP headphones listed in 'similar products'. They look like great sounding headphones...
Great sound for the priceWhile it might not have the range my old set did (approx. 10 foot long cord versus the Panasonic model's 15 feet), and it's not quite as adjustable nor as comfortable to wear, I've yet to hear as high a degree of sound clarity and separation from other models in the same price range. Needless to say, the audio quality these bad-boys put out is perfect for listening to your fave CDs, DVDs (I couldn't believe how amazing the Dolby surround on my movie platters sounded through these!), and/or digital cable channels. All in all I found these more than worth the shekels I forked over for 'em.
On the downside, you can also hear the background hiss in your older cassette and VHS tapes a lot better with these. And it remains to be seen whether or not they possess good durability...

Nice Features/Easy to use
V-Tech 2420, 2431
Excellent Phone - well worth the moneyI jumped onto Amazon and this phone system popped up I loved it at first for it's sleek look and then I read more about the phone and immediately ordered it, it was the best thing I did. This phone is excellent it has great features, distance, sound, clarity and it's lightweight and is a real nice looking phone. It has the Caller ID display right on the handset and the best feature that I love is the Message Waiting. I have home voicemail through my local telephone company and I was never able to tell if I had any messages unless I picked up my phone and dialed into my mailbox. This phone has a green light on the handset and the base that will blink when you have messages and on the display it will read "Messages Waiting"...I love it! I just ordered the supplemental handset for our bedroom and can't wait to get so I can junk my old cordless. If you are thinking buying this phone....do it!!!!
The design does present a few problems, though. The first is the lack of size adjustment. Luckily, my head is neither too big or too small, but it can definitely be a problem to people with smaller or larger heads. Sounds silly, I know, but being too tight or too big can seriously cause discomfort. My friend bought these headphones and had the problem with her ears getting sore because she couldn't adjust the earpieces. One warning to all, though, prolonged use does cause irritation on the tops of the ears. Also, to people with glasses, you might want to reconsider buying these particular headphones, because the phones themselves take over the whole ear, preventing you from properly putting on your glasses.
The other drawback in the design is the bleedthrough, more so on these than other open-ear design headphones. Be careful of the volume if travelling on a bus or a plane, because the people sitting around you will definitely hear what you are listening to.
But all that said, I am happy with these headphones, though I see the drawbacks for many people, and experienced a few of them myself. For the price, these are a great deal. For sound quality, these have it where it counts, for design, it's depends on the person.
