Finally, decent receptionThe KX-TG5202 (essentially a KX-TG5200 with an extra handset and charger) fixes that problem. The sound quality is as good as I've heard from any current models, and it even sports a "voice enhancement" technology which, if switched on, makes voices sounds more "realistic." In addition, each handset has a speakerphone, which gets high marks from the people I've called on the phone.
The phone has a black and white display for Caller ID information, and three "soft buttons" which change function depending on the mode the phone is in. It has all basic functionality you'd expect from a $100+ phone (backlighting, phone books, various ring tones, etc.) It doesn't go overboard, however. There is no voice dialing or voice announcement of callers, for example.
All in all, this is a good, solid phone with basic functionality and more than respectable sound quality. If you're not looking for a lot of bells and whistles, you'll love it.

Good function, ugly appearanceThe bad news for many will be the appearance. What are the product stylists at Panasonic thinking and who do they imagine the buyer is? One wonders what sort of décor they imagine will be enhanced by bright silver phones with orange LCD screens and antennas sticking up everywhere? Before you buy one, make sure that any other decision makers in the household are consulted on the appearance. The icing on the cake is the rather large baby blue and black logo announcing to the world that this is the "5.8GHz Gigarange Supreme" which completes the overall cheesy appearance nicely. Our Siemens phone may have been had functional issues, but it was well styled and disappeared into virtually any background. On the other hand, the Uniden phones make the Panasonic styling look positively restrained. Appearance earns a dismal two stars.
Keypad layout is pretty typical of what one expects these days from Asian mass-market electronics companies, busy and cluttered. Why use a single button for talk/hang up when you can use a separate one for each? If there was space to add more buttons, rest assured Panasonic would have. Since the buttons actually feel good in use, are not overly sensitive and don't stick when pushed, the layout earns three stars.
In the end I weighted my rating more toward function, as that's really the only area one can be objective about, and the function is strong. If you can stand to look at it, and you're not married to someone that will hold a grudge because you brought something hideous looking into the house, you probably won't be disappointed.

Worth a try
Let's get down to business - the phone I have uses the same circuitry as this one but is styled differently, kind of a futuristic style, really. It has a volume switch, a scan button to get a better channel, a redial button, page, memory button, a flash button, and a pause button. Not to mention the headset jack!
I love the compact base on this phone, but when it comes down to it, it dosen't sound as good as my other cordless phones (I own 7).
For one thing, unless the other person talks loud, it's hard to hear them. Raising the volume helps, but it's still hard to hear some callers. The manual is short and shows mediocre English skills, but this phone is easy to use and setup. The fit and finish is very good, and could compete with some uptown phones in the ($$$) range.
The wall mount bracket is unuseful, as the phone is unsteady if it's hanging on the wall. Of course, I use it as a desktop cordless phone, so it dosen't matter.
Overall, this is fine for calling up the bank info line, or calling time and temperature. I use it to answer the phone, and if it isn't a telemarketer, I can get on my other cordless to talk. However, it's not a good primary phone.
