Great sound- one problem
This product is superb in sound quality, volume control, and comfort. I also love the extra battery feature. I am a life coach and work by phone, so I am on the phone a lot. I've had the phone over a year and am now having one problem. The headset is hardwired and suddenly I am finding that I have to crink it here or there as the sound cuts out. It would be wonderful if the headset was not hardwired and I could just replace that. However, for the price- just buy another unit if this happens.

What happens after 2 years?
I have had this phone for about 2 years and it works great. The sound is reasonable and the volume control is a plus, along with the mute button.

I didn't like the little arm that supported the headset; it just made the hanging wire look bad. Then there is the extra battery - GREAT idea. Just that the spare is "dead" now. Started dying after about 6 months.

The cushion earpiece is sloooooowly disintegrating and cannot be replaced because everything is just "fixed". It would have been good if some components were detachable and could be replaced.

All in all, a great phone for the price. Now I just need to contemplate purchasing a new battery or another phone.

I am *also* buying the same phone again!
Hands down, this is the best cordless headset telephone I have used. I work from home and am on the phone constantly. Like others have mentioned, the sound has started cutting out on my latest phone after about 9 months. I am shopping for my third phone, both my previous phones have "died" the same way with the sound cutting out. Of course, because the belt loop does not hold (I put mine in my pocket) I have dropped the phone many times and reeled it in with the cord. I'm sure this has contributed to the short life spans of both of my phones!

I have noticed that the price has been coming down on these a bit lately, yea! Very comfortable headset, excellent sound quality. Bell has recently come out with a similiar model, the headset looks almost exactly the same, but I have not tried it. I'm sticking with my GE.

Worst Cordless Phone Ever!!!
I purchased this phone to replace a single handset 900 Mhz Uniden phone that I loved. Since I am a gadget junkie I decided to go with the 2.4 Ghz, and to my surprise it was much worse. I read someone else's review that compared it to a cell phone, but my cell phone is more clear. I would recommend no one purchase this phone. It is a great concern that you can not even count on consistency from the manufacturers of cordless phones. Every time I buy a new phone, I always end up buying a different brand in order to find the quality I am looking for.

Two phones are not too many
What I like about this phone set:
- Two phones. I'm surprised how much I like having two cordless handsets even though I live in a small house; I keep one on each floor.
- Very good sound quality that is consistant throughout my house.
- Ablity to dial a number like a mobile phone... enter the number, then hit talk.
- Stores lots of names/numbers.
- No annoying blink every time there is a new call in the CID memory.

What I don't like about this phone:
- Very short warning when the battery goes dead... about 10 seconds.
- No programable buttons dedicated to dialing the number assigned to them.
- Attractive, but dull styling.

Overall, I would recommend this phone. Good quality and reliable.

Already Own Uniden TRU4485-2
I purchased the TRU446-2, because I wanted to add two more headsets to my existing Uniden TRU4485-2. Of course, good idea, bad implementation. The headsets are not compatible even though they look identical. Turns out the "-2" means that the maximum amount of headsets that will work with either base unit is two. So, instead of working as one base with four headsets, I really have two bases with two headsets each. Funtionally, I'm able to do what I originally wanted. However, I have to make sure the right headset goes on the right base! Nonetheless, I decided to keep them. Besides, I paid only $54 at Target for the TRU446-2. I'm happy with the headsets as they do what they are supposed to do. Sound quality is not the greatest, but I've never had a problem hearing or speaking. My only complaint is one of the headsets voice goes out. I have to bang it on the counter to get it to kick in. Once it works, it works fine. I have a feeling this is a defect as I've seen this complaint in another review. I'm hoping this does not occur on the other headsets. If it does, then I will give up on Uniden and buy a better quality system.

bought 12 units, its saving each of us at least 1/2 hour/da
About a year ago 5 sales, 2 purchasing, and 3 traffic staff plus IT/accounting switched to these units. Installation is simple, batteries have held up good. We live on the phone. It's freed us from our desks without missing calls. Phone time is much more productive. We pull and send the documents to our customers while they are still on the phone. We can even "walk" them through departments, ask questions, getting answers right then and there. Remember to use the mute button if you do not want the caller to hear what other people are saying to you! I took a customer that called in through the warehouse describing the package labels to him over the phone. I take the dog for a walk and still get my calls. Reception is poor 80 feet from the base unit in a concrete building. I can't wait for the next generation -2,400 mhz systems, it will enable us to take a call anywhere in the facility.

Excellent Headset, Saved My Neck (Literally)
I have had this headset for over 3 months now and I am extremely pleased with it. The clarity is a perfect 10 -- people that I am talking to cannot tell whether I am on the regular phone or the CS10.

I have used the original Hello Direct cordless headset for a few years. People often complained that they couldn't hear me well and asked me to speak louder. I often ended up switching to the regular phone.

So I retired that headset and bought a GN Netcom 9020D. The clarity was as good as the CS10, but I would hear an echo of myself. I called Hello Direct and bought another 4-line telephone that they claimed was compatible, but the echo remained.

So I finally bought the CS10. I almost did not because of some of the negative reviews here on Amazon.com, especially in regards to Plantronics' service should something go wrong, but pain was starting to creap back into my neck and I had little choice but to at least try. I have been very pleased with this headset and I highly recommend it. Setup was far more straightforward than with the earlier headsets that I owned: I didn't have to change any of the default switch settings.

There is, of course, room for improvement. One thing that I always liked about the Hello Direct and the GN Netcom headsets was that the transmitter was mounted on the headset itself. I wish Plantronics would revise the CS10 to make the headset an all-in-one unit instead of having the transmitter as a separate unit linked with a cord. Or at least include a holder or holster where one can tuck away the transmitter (this should not be a separate purchase, IMHO).

It work as advertised!
I home office and needed the ability to write orders, check files etc. while talking with clients. The CS-10 works extremely well and the callers have no idea I am using a headset. The incoming and outgoing quality is great! I would recommend the phone lifter for remote answering.

I tried two other cheaper products that were poor quality and either sounded like I was talking into a bucket or were "distant" sounding.

This was the best price anywhere ... although it has increased in price recently.

Good Basic Phone
The other reviews in this forum are pretty mixed, from bad batteries to the phone not having a HOLD button. I have had this phone for about a month and have no major complaints on it. If you are looking for an inexpensive cordless 900 MGHZ with caller ID, this is a good phone. The display for the caller ID is clear and well lit. (green background) In my opinion, the phone feels comfortable on my ear which was a major factor in my purchasing it. About the battery concern, I don't know why the other reviews knock the battery..it lasts a pretty long time. There is no hold button, but I don't need one. The reception is clear and holding it is fairly comfortable. So, basically for the price, it's a good cordless with Caller ID. May I suggest that if it doesn't meet your expectations, return it immediately! Thanks for reading my review.

Buying another one!
I bought this phone for my mother. She needed a new cordless phone and the callerid feature was one of the reasons I selected this one. She LOVES it! We both find it very comfortable to hold and very easy to hear. The reception is quite good and we have had no problem with the battery life. My nephew likes the phone so much I am going to buy one for him for christmas. For an inexpensive cordless phone I recommend this one.

Great Phone - Great Value
I've had this phone for a good 2+ years now. I've recently had to change the battery for the first time, so no big deal. I have another (older) Sony model cordless in another room which I'm looking to replace (and use as a paper-weight) - so, I'm going to just buy another one of these Uniden's because the clarity is so good. I especially like the Caller ID/Call Waiting features - I would say that my only complaint with this phone is that it only holds 10 phone numbers for auto-dial... I've got more friends than that! But, you can't beat the practicality and functionality for this price.

Works great & clear, but limited range
We have the base + two hand sets.

The good:
I love it. It also works great with the phone-company voicemail system, because it has a BRIGHT indicator which blinks in the handset and on the base unit when there are new messages. Intercom is a cool feature, I will buy additional sets for around the house because we are no longer limited to jack locations: Garage, spare bdrm, etc. Speaker setting sounds clear to us and our callers. It has a headset jack. Redial & caller id return call menu give option to dial 7, 10, or 11 digit number.

The Bad:
The range is shorter than my old ATT 2.4Mhz system, > 200 ft. The speed-dial list has to be programmed on EACH handset separately.

Good phone
We bought the base and 3 extra handsets. The phones work great inside around the yard and even in the adjacent houses around us. They do not however have the range we expected. The reception is clear, the intercom and call transfer are great as is the vmail indicator. We have never had battery issues or interference with our wireless network or other appliances as some people have complained. For the price they are an EXCELLENT buy.

Improvement over the already excellent 2.4 GHz model
I was very happy with the 2.4 GHz expandable VTech phone, except for the interference between it and the 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless computer network on the same cluttered 2.4 GHz band.

This phone is everything the 2.4 GHz model was, plus a more slightly larger and more comfortable handset, better sound quality (both normal and handsfree/handset-speakerphone modes) -- and, of course, no more interference with the 2.4 GHz 802.11b wireless LAN (I understand it receives on 5.8 GHz but still transmits on 2.4 GHz, but we haven't encountered any problems).

The only downside we encountered is that the intercom function is now on a softkey menu instead of a hard button (as it was on the 2.4 GHz model) so it is less convenient to use and almost impossible with one hand. It does now allow you to intercom-ring all handsets at once, which the 2.4 GHz model didn't.

Consider getting an extra battery for the base unit -- the base keeps the battery charged for operation during a power outage, or as a spare for a handset.

Perfect All-Around 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone/Answering Machine
I've had this phone for three weeks. It's not worthy of a glowing five star review, but it's definitely one of the best cordless phones on the market. It's also a great deal. Despite some critical reviews, the sound quality of the TRU-448 is excellent. Let's get something straight...no cordless phone is ever going to match a corded phone for clarity. Reviewers have to recognize this fact and get past it. As far as cordless phones go, the TRU-448 with its 2.4 GHz circuitry has commendable sound. It also has adequate range. I have one piece of advice for reviewers who get annoyed when the sound quality of a cordless phone degrades hundreds of feet from its base unit: Get a cell phone. This phone is ideal for use around the house/yard/patio. Beyond that, call Verizon. One reviewer questioned the legitimacy of earlier five-star reviews. He or she theorized that the raves were actually submitted by Uniden employees. He or she also claimed to have never heard of Uniden. Interestingly, that person gave this phone a three-star rating despite the fact that he or she apparently doesn't own it. I don't know if the five-star reviews were authored by Uniden employees, but I do know that Uniden has been in the cordless phone business for decades. I am not a Uniden employee. I'm certainly willing to point out this phone's shortcomings. I've found three. My first criticism is ringer volume. You have two choices: Low and High. Where's Medium? High is earsplitting and low is inaudible. My second criticism relates to the answering machine. When a caller leaves a message, the answering machine takes 30 seconds to "recycle." If someone calls within 30 seconds of someone else leaving a message (or the caller immediately redials to leave a follow-up message), they get a busy signal. Since there are no moving parts (no outgoing or incoming message cassettes) I have no idea why the phone stays busy for 30 seconds. My last criticism concerns the keypad. Not all the buttons are backlit. The caller-ID, speed dial, redial and channel change buttons (the black ones seen in the product photo) are indiscernible in the dark. All three criticisms are pretty minor. Overall this is a great phone. Don't buy a 2.4 GHz cordless phone/answering machine combo that's more expensive.

Great sound quality, great features, easy to use
After finally getting fed up with my low quality coordless phone/answering machine I decided to upgrade. I looked around at various phone models, and after reading reviews I couldn't find a model that I was willing to put up good money for, I wanted 2.4GHZ DSS, with an answering machine and call waiting caller id, this phone had all the features I wanted and other phones from Uniden rated well, so I decided to give it a try. I also purchesed the expansion hand set directly from Uniden (you can transfer calls between the handsets and the speakerphone). The phone is very user friendly, and easy to set up. The buttons are logically located and the handset is comfortable to use, it also comes with a belt clip and has a headset plug. The sound quality has been execellent, I have expereinced no extra noise or interference (which was so bad with my old phone that I sometimes couldn't talk on the phone). The answering machine is very clear and can be accessed remotly. I have nothing negative to say about this phone except that the ability to add on more than one handset would be nice. I can recomend this phone without hesitation.

Rox
We got this system (with the extra handset) about a month ago. So far I've very pleased with the phones performance. Reception is just a notch below crystal clear, but far better then any other cordless phone I've owned. The feature set for the phone is great, comparable to my cell phone. I have had no problems programming in address books, special rings, and any other number of extra features. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a quality home phone.

Good features but messes up my WAN
2.4 GHz range is used by my WAN base station. Which makes it impossible for me to use both my phone and the WAN at the same time. This sux.

Good sound, Good range and Good recording
I've been looking for an answering machine/cordless phone to replace my old AT&T 5635. I needed better quality message recording and a speaker phone option. Most reviews complained about recording and/or speaker phone quality problems from VTech, AT&T and Panasonic. The Uniden line did not suffer from this shortcoming in most of the reviews I saw. Initially I was looking at the new 5.8Ghz model, but the price was more then I wanted to pay. I bought this 2.4Ghz model and it is everything I needed and then some. The only limitation I have noted is that you cannot talk on both cordless phones at the same time, but you can use one cordless and the base speaker phone together. You can also transfer a call from one cordless to another or to the base. Record time is limited to 10 minutes and can be set to limit each message to either 1 or 4 minutes. Not really a big deal for me, but if you get a lot of messages get a phone with larger memory. Reception is good, as is speaker/mic quality on the handsets. No static noted in my area.

Very pleased!
So far I have been pleased with this purchase.

Pros:
Great reception and range. Great battery life. I talk on the phone a lot and sometimes forget to charge it for a day or two and have no problems. Clear sound quality. Ability to access messages from the handsets as well as the base. I purchased my set with headsets included and use them every time I'm on the phone, definite bonus for busy moms! Preprogrammed outgoing message for answering machine, but you can also record your own without overriding the original. So if you ever want to switch between the two, you can.

Cons:
You do have to program each phone individually for storing numbers, changing ring tones, etc. Somewhat of a drawback, but not a major complaint.

If you are looking for a multiple handset system that you can have more than one person on the line at the same time, this won't work. Only one handset can be used at a time, and a call has to be "transferred" to the other handset. (for my purposes, this is not a big deal).

So far I have been happy with this phone. I'm still learning the different features that are available. It's not a complicated phone, but is definitely a lot different than my basic 900 mhz phone with no options.

Gr8 Idea; Cheaply Made
I bought 1 of these about 2-1/2 yrs ago from [a local store] & loved the concept. The 1st thing 2 go was the belt clip; due 2 its flimsiness, it just wouldn't 'hold' in the correct position. Whenever I bent over during a conversation, the clip would rock in the opposite direction & the phone would fall completely off. That was it 4 the clip; from then on, I either carried the thing or stuck it in a pocket--that worked.

The next thing 2 go was the headset: the 'adjustable' portion kept coming out of its 'track' & that was that. Overall, it's a gr8 idea & very convenient 2 use. Now, if GE would just get its act 2gether & make it a bit sturdier/durable, they'd be able 2 ask 4 more... & get it, compared 2 all these other manufacturers. Lastly, incorpor8ing a modular instead of hard-wired headset would make it easier 2 replace parts (i.e., broken headset).

This phone is great, why discontinue??
I bought this for my mom since she liked the one I had. Although hers broke after a couple years, she wants a new one and I can't seem to find them for sale anymore!

A Great Product Long Gone...
I have owned two units in 10 years. Sadly, they have been long discontinued. It is a easy to use, versatile and compact little 900 MHz phone. I went 4 houses down to a neighbors and it was still in good range. Switchable (attached) headset and rotating boom mic to boot.

I have a black model which made it's usage last loads longer b/c of fingerprints, etc. It has been dropped more times than I can recall and has still endored the test of time. The dual batteries are one of the best extra features on it. Back lighting for night time display of caller id and call waiting caller id. Message indicator for in-phone answering service, large keypad even on a small unit. Excellent, just excellent.

almost perfect except......
This nifty little cordless Uniden is great, has many useful features such as digital answering machine with the option of manual or prerecording personal messages, able to store up to 10 phone numbers, rocketdialing for quick dial, volume control on both the handset and base, caller ID, and some other minor functions. I received this item and tested for 2 weeks, and so far, so good. If this phone had a "hold" bult into it, I would give it a full 5, but hay, you cant beat the price.

Great phone but be aware of one thing
The phone works well in all aspects except one. If you plan on leaving the phone consistently out of the base unit, for example, in another room, please be advised that the handset DOES NOT BEEP when the battery is low. It only flashes "battery low" in the display. Many times I don't even realize the phone was ringing until it is too late.

If this is not a problem for you, I'd highly recommend this phone.

Awesome Phone
This is a pretty good phone for the money. The reception is crystal clear and it has a pretty good range. Only thing is that i can't seem to make the call waiting caller ID to work. There is a setting for it, however it does not change the result. Possibly not compatible with my telphone co. Otherwise a great phone.. Wish i could have purchased more. I would have definately stocked up!! Great Xmas gifts!
