Hard to hear
It was a lot more hard to hear through this headset than regular phones. Otherwise, everything else was fine.

Greatest phone I've ever owned!
I purchased this phone in January of 1999 and it has worked really well. Phone calls are extremely clear and the headset is very lightweight. The only problem that I've had with it is a problem that is common with most headsets, the headset part wears out rather quickly and breaks. After about 2.5 years, it finally broke. I must admit, I have been rough on it a few times, but the design is still destined to break after a couple years of regular use. I am considering buying this again, but I would like a two-line phone with a few more features, so I am looking at some other phones by Plantronics.

Great!
I think this headset is great! It works very well. You can hear wonderfully and the headset doesn't fall off like most other headsets. It's very comfortable and light weight. It's great for teenagers when they do their homework while on the phone, much like myself. It's so easy to use. The only con is that you can only go a short distance with it.

Panasonic needs to dump this style
Panasonic needs to dump this style of fax machine - the ones that use that cheesy film - like carbon paper only really really expensive.

I had the older model this unit and I can't really fault much about it except the cost of the film and the way it uses the film. It basically feeds inch by inch film to paper. What his means is when a fax message is blank or has one line it still uses an entire page of film.

When your film is finished you may used 20% of the potential of the roll. You can't rewind so you have are stuck with shelling out another $25 for a roll.

I just took mine out of service in favor of a SHARP unit that uses an inkjet cartridge. It's too soon to tell how long it will last but the starter cartridge has already done more than 300 sheets and still going strong. The entire unit cost me the same price as two rolls of Panasonic film.

The cordless phone is fine and works well, but the battery could stand some improvement.

Panasonic needs to stop making these film based machines or at least re-engineer them to feed film only when printing.

Initial Comments and Review
The Panasonic KX-FPG381 Fax & cordless phone combo appears to have been a good decision.

PROS:
1. It accurately distinguishes between fax calls and voice calls.
2. It allows the phone to ring up to from 2 to 7 times (selectable) before triggering the answering machine.
3. I added an additional telephone and was able to add it without any trouble.
4. Good, clear telephone reception
5. Lots of convenience features that you'll quickly depend upon
6. Selectable tones reduces the irritation of hearing the phone ring
7. Faxing out is simple (just enter the phone number and hit send). An automated message tells you whether it was sent OK or not.
8. Receiving faxes is automatic (do nothing, just read your fax).

CONS:
1. The manual is the only drawback I can see right now. Its obviously written in a foreign language and then translated into
English. If this isn't the case, then Panasonic should have hired professional technical writers to produce the manual (not the engineers - they can't write directions to make pop-corn).

OVERALL
I consider it a good buy and a good price when you consider you're getting a quality cordless phone system and a fax machine at one price.

Well, that's my opinion so far. If it changes, I'll update this.

Great fax machine, great phone - great combo
I read the reviews above - who the heck talks 4 hours on their phone??? If you're looking for a cordless phone/fax - then this is a good one

too many problems
I bought my SW Bell FF908 about two years ago. After owning it for 10 months it failed for no apparent reason. I sent it to Conair (the manufacturer) for waranty repair. They sent it back with a fresh battery but still nonfunctional. (I guess they don't read the problem description if the battery is old). After I returned it again they sent me a replacement phone that worked fairly well for a year.

When the battery wore out recently I looked in every store in town that carries cordless phone batteries but couldn't find a compatable battery so I ordered a replacement battery from Conair. I unquestionably gave them the correct model number for the phone but they sent the wrong battery. When I called to request the correct battery, their computers were down and they told me to call back another day. I called back a couple days later and finally got them to send the correct battery. Now that I have a working battery again I have discovered that the phone doesn't dial correctly. Most of the time I get silence or a "wrong number" recording when I use the FF908 to dial. The keys must be worn out.

I suggest trying another brand if you are looking for an inexpensive cordless phone that will last (but not GE/Thomson: their low-end 900Mhz phone has awful audio quality and range)

Everything I've Ever Wanted in a Cordless Phone
I have no technical aptitude and no patience reading instructional manuals. Nevertheless, I was able to set up this phone. What's more, it's sturdy (I've had it for six months or so with no problems), attractive (in a form follows function sort of way) and gets clear sound from every room of my spacious (by New York City standards) one-bedroom apartment.

Excellent cordless phone
We have used this phone nearly 1 year. The reception is always clear, indoors and out. Talk time is surprisingly long, my teenager talks literally for hours without recharging. It is a great value, simple to program and use. The handset takes lots of physical abuse without cracking or malfunctioning. Highly recommended.

Very poor reception, stay away from any appliances
Well I bought this phone becuase I had a uniden 900mhz phone and it had awesome reception. I could walk to the local supermarket, go inside and still get reception. The only problem is the power pack died. So I figured lets get a Uniden 2.4 Ghz. Well I can't even walk out my front door without this phone getting choppy and making all sorts of noise. If I walk by the microwave, I cannot hear the other person at all. This phone is worse than my 900Mhz. Very dissatisfied, but maybe its just my phone and not the model. Take it for what its worth.

Some distorted sound
I bought one of these phones for my mother, who has a high-pitched voice and she sounded very distorted when using this phone. Seems to work just fine for lower pitched voices.

Good Deal
The phone is well-made, has good clarity, excellent range and a very reasonable price for a 2.4 GHz unit /w base and handset call handling capability.

Uniden TRU-446 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone
The sound quality and the over all options present an excellent phone for it's price. I highly recommend it.

good phone
I replaced my panasonic with this uniden because the panasonic was acting up ,it was a 900 mhz digital spread and the uniden is a digital spread also but it operates at the better high 2.4 ghz. so it should have an increased range but it starts to break up at the same distance the panasonic did, perhaps this is because the companies are advertising the frequency they use but not the power output leaving us still somewhat in the dark. I must admit though that the panasonic had a much better range than I thought it would in wich case the uniden seems to have an ok range and this uniden has a lot of features for a phone in this price range including ni-hm batteries that have no memory so you don't have to tell people not to put the phone back in the charger if it doesn't need charging yet, that's a good selling point to me and I would have bought it sooner if they advertised the battery type a little better. And the ni-hms last a long time. So despite the slight if any increase in range over my panasonic the uniden has to many other thing going for it at that price so I have to give it a good raiting.

Best Cordless Phone I've ever Tested!!!!
Uniden has a winner in this model of TRU446 phone. Clear as a bell on incoming or outgoing audio... I'm getting over a 2000 foot range from my house. My friend purchased a panasonic at over 230.00 and this TRu446 out performs it in every way!!! I highly recommend this phone for price and quality. IS OUTSTANDING!!!! ...Received phone in two days shipped standard ups from vendor...

Expensive in price but cheap in quality
I purchased this headset a couple months ago to use with my current cordless phones and a new one I purchased. I was excited to get one because using a headset is much nicer than holding a phone in your hand or shoulder. Intially I was fairly happy with the purchase. Eventually, people started to complain that they couldn't hear me properly on one of my phones (a Uniden 5.8ghz). So I had to use my 2.4ghz GE which had terrible signal strength (my 900mhz phone picked up alot of noise while using the headset). It became annoying, because I would want to go further with the headset so I had to make a choice between the person not hearing me or having static. I finally became too frustrated, especially since the Uniden didn't have very good signal strength either anyway and purchased a 2.4ghz Panasonic (which is an outstanding product). But the person on the other end still couldn't hear me properly with the headset on. So it must've been a problem with the headset. However, I still put up with it. Then the earpiece started coming out from the mic and it was annoying but wasn't a major problem, until.... it just broke completely. So obviously the headset is completely useless if it can't go on my ear. This is just after a few months of use. I've now decided to buy a new Panasonic headset. Others have complained of people having problems hearing on the other end while using Plantronics headsets also, so stay away from these.

Finally a great headset for all my phones!
I have tried several headsets, including a couple that received good reviews on amazon.com and elsewhere. This is the first one that fit well and had good sound. I use it on my new Sanyo 8100 as well as my GE and Vtech cordless phones at home. I'm on the phone very frequently so I never take it off.. I just switch it to whatever phone I'm using. It doesn't hurt contrary to what one reviewer said. It is completely flexible and adjustable for a custom fit. I like a headset to fit firmly around my ear; it bothers me when they just sort of hang there. I'm wearing it now and it's firmly in place yet I can't even feel it. I'm buying another one to have on hand for when this one ever wears out. That's how much I like it.

Great product and great warranty
Plantronics is a leader in the field of headsets. Compare the workmanship on this headset to other manufacturers and you will see that the wires and parts are far better protected and more likely to last. Sound quality is excellent as well. After a while, the over the ear loop might start to become a bit uncomfortable, but that is the nature of this type of headset. Add to that a 12-month FREE REPLACEMENT WARRANTY, no matter what the reason for the breakage, and you cannot beat it!

I bought one about a year ago and the wire somehowe got pulled out of the plug. I called them up and they told me without a receipt, I could not get the free replacement. I was not too upset since I was not sure that I had actually had the headset for less than 12-months. So, I sent an OUT-OF-WARRANTY quote request to them via their website on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2003 to find out how much it would cost to repair. Imagine my surprise when I found a new one at my door on October 17th!

Great service. Great product.

terrible product
does not print a fax report (manual makes a point of saying that!!) answering machine is a nightmare to operate remotely
volume control on the cordless phone is perpetually irritating

it is pretty, and that's the only nice thing i can say about it

unhappy with cordless
Wow, what a great price, and so many features. However, everytime I use the cordless, I cringe. The sound is tinny...hurts my ear, no matter how I adjust the volume. I've had a lot of cordless phones over the years, and this one was the worst. The handset was just fine, however.

It is indeed very, very SHARP!
First, I want to address "shadysprings"- I think you were sold a malfunctioning fax machine. Mine works great, in all aspects. I was able to set it up in 5 minutes and send a fax within 10 (you have to program in your information first). I do agree with the other people's suggestions that you read the manual carefully. It is LOADED with FEATURES like a 4 person mailbox. But overall, I am thrilled with my purchase. It faxes, copies, and takes phone messages, and takes up relatively little space. What more can you want?

Very Poor Phone
Poor quality unit. That's why AT&T doesn't sell these themselves, but out-sources them instead. Half the time I have a echo in my ear of myself when I use the phone. Now it has developed a "Chripping" sound that you only hear once you have dialed the number. The person on the other end can't hear you when this happens. Solution is hang up, walk over to base unit, pick base unit up about 4 inches from desk, drop base unit on desk, re-dial the phone number. Of course these undocumented features (problems) began shortly after the warranty had expired.

Do Not Purchase This Phone
I'd give it 0 stars if I could. I had the same problem with the phone cutting out as the person from Plainview, NY. See AT&T 2300 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID for the review. I do not have call waiting nor do most of the people I call. AT&T was trying to blame the problem on that, but it must be something else. They sent me a new phone (wrong model) to replace it, but it had the same issue. I sent it back. Later, the original phone was unable to find it's base even though other phones worked fine when plugged into the phone connection.

I don't what some of you are doing
I don't know what some of you are doing with your phones, but I have not had any problems over the past YEAR with my phone. The only problem I have experienced is that someone in my house left one of my three handsets on the back of my truck. It is nowhere to be found. Thanks alot Kevin!

    bad reception
We used to have a old GE 900 MHz phone, and the reception was WAY better than this 2.4GHz. We're in a tiny little condo, so the phone is never very far from the base, and the phone has constant static. The person on the other end can hear the static too. It is also kind of difficult to hear the other person, even with the volume turned up. And sometimes we even get piercing feedback -- ouch! I am going to return this phone if I still can, and probably get another GE phone.

    not a good choice
I read the reviews and decided this sounded like a good phone. I have owned it only a couple of days and already I am having problems. The answering machine does not hang up once the caller has disconnected. The caller ID rarely works and the reception has been poor. I am returning this phone ASAP. I previously owned a Uniden that lasted me about 10yrs. This experience is definitely turning me back to Uniden.

It does have a draw back or two
I bought this phone on Amazon about a year ago and have used it daily since. The sound quality is about par with other cordless phones I've owned so I have no real problems in that area. The battery life is really good and better than most that I've owned. The problems I've noticed with it are 1) when someone calls and you try to return the call using the caller ID it does not work because it forgets to add the 1. Also the volume buttons are not placed in a good location and I often hit them while simply holding the phone to my ear. The other buttons also need to be placed in better locations or recesed so they are not pressed by accident while using the phone. But other than that I would reccomend it if someone was intrested.

    Very short life
I bought this phone about a year ago and it was fine for the first six months. It has been dying in the middle of calls lately and it finally just died for good the other day. It is not the battery - I replaced it. It is just a low quality phone.

Great phone for a great price! So great...that I have 3.
I bought the 1st one cause it was inexpensive.I was so impressed by the quality vs.$$ that I got a 2nd one. We moved out to the country; lot's of space with a guest house and a barn so I bought a 3rd with wireless phone jacks and they have worked out perfectly. We have even given them as gifts and our friends really like them. The range on them is impressive, the voice clarity & sound are better than most, the batteries last 4ever and we have no compaints about the phones; We've crashed them, drowned them, stepped on them, you name it...and they have survived and kept their quality intact. In this day and age where there is a lot of junk on the market for big bucks this was really a pleasant surprise. We highly recommend this phone.
