terrible clarity
To me, the most important feature of a cordless phone is it's clarity.

This phone sounds terrible. Static, echo, just plain cheap sounding. I don't know what else to say. Other than that, it's a great phone. I mean, it looks like a phone.

My house mate has a Uniden model (discontinued 900 Mhz analogue) and I have been searching for it's equal since. That phone is a dream. Honestly, It sounds better than even any hard wired phone I've been on. When I am on a call, If there is a brief moment of non-conversation, I sometimes think the call has been disconnected because there is absolutely no background noise. I find myself blowing into the mouthpeice to see if I am still powered! It is that good. i think i will buy a modern Uniden and hope it is as good.

Excellent!
I've had this phone for 2 years now and I have to find fault with it. An excellent "no frills" phone that would not dissapoint the value buyer.

Good, But I Still Want Better
A nice system overall, but not nearly perfect. We purchased a set of these to replace our burnt out Siemens Gigaset 2402 system. While we were happy to have something that worked (the Siemens system had died a slow death over about a year and ultimately became unusable after a little over two years of use) the features and design of this system leave much to be desired. Numerous minor inconveniences and awkwardnesses make these phones less than they could be--nothing major, and perhaps only noticeable when compared with the excellently designed Siemens phones (really nothing more than the difference between Japanese and German design).

Two features stand out in comparison with our retired Siemens phones, one negative and one positive. On the positive side, these phones support detection of voice messages on an existing message system, so that it is easy to see from any handset whether there are unplayed messages on either line. On the negative side, the system does not support handset naming. We imagined this would be a minor inconvenience when we bought the phones, but it has proved to be a major drawback: there's simply no way to get the entire family to learn what number goes with what phone. When we had the Siemens system, which supports handset naming, the we had a working intercom system (not to mention convenient transfers of calls); now we're back to shouting.

Good Cordless Phone
The people writing bad reviews for all the Panasonic Cordless phones must have a different colored phone. If you would read the details on each of the extension phones, for some reason the White Phone has a different type battery than the silver, violet, or black. It has an NiMH battery that can be charged without running down. The others have a NiCAD battery of which I can't figure out why. It doesn't make since to have one you have to run completely down. You should have full time usage of the cordless phone. I never leaave my phone off the charger for a long time. It's always back in the charger by at least bedtime. I love the phones except for that. I don't know panasonic was thinking about. They should make all the other ones good by supplying a NiMH battery and a new charger.

It works...
This The Plantronics PLX-400 Hands-free headset is a stand-alone telephone. It's not just something that you have to hook up to another phone. Just plug it into your phone jack and dial away.

It has a volume adjuster, but it must always be set to 9 (the highest setting) and even then it is difficult to hear callers unless I'm in a quiet room.

There's a redial button, but no memory or phone book features, so each call must be dialed manually. This device also includes a flash button for using call waiting or other phone company features that require a quick tap on the 'hook'. A mute button rounds out all the features of this item.

The headset is funtional, but it squeaks a lot if you move around any. The microphone, on a short (~4 inch) boom, works well.

This item has the bare minimum of features, lacking many that even the cheapes phones sets offer.

Next time, I'll look for phone number memory, call display, etc. before purchasing a handsfree phone.

great product, clear and completely easy to use
this is a truly great headset, i've been using it for over 5 years now. the sound is just as clear, if not clearer, than a regular telephone. the mute button works really well too...the adjustable volume knob works great. highly recommended!

Worked well first few years
I'm of the mentality that when I buy something, it should last a long, long time. After about a year of use, I started to notice the audio cutting in and out intermittently. I diagnosed this to be a bad connection and resoldered the joints in the handset. This did not fix the problem; seems like the only thing that works now is the whacking method.

Recently, I've been able to hear interference from my neighbors' garage doors opening and closing. Or maybe that's just a coincidence, and I hear random static? In either case, it's unacceptable.

So, if you plan on getting a new phone within the next few years, go ahead and get the Sony for now. But don't say I didn't warn you.

Sounds very clear unlike other Cordless phones
My folks bought this when i went to visit them last. I was zapped by the crystal clear sound. Although the set was fixed at the ground floor, the cordless sounded perfect on the first floor, balcony & else where. The best deal on tight budget.

I was not pelased with the sound quality
While the features in this phone really grabbed my attention, I never realized how lousy analog phones sound. I have a 900mhz Sony cordless phone and I never really thought about whether it was digital or analog. I found out the phone I already have is digital.

There are no special feautres on my phone, other than memory dialing. And I would just as soon keep the phone I already have and return the Toshiba.

I have only praise for this phone!
Until this one, I never owned a phone with 900 MHZ technology, or Caller ID, so I have nothing to compare this to. However, the clarity and range are excellent, and the 3-line, 16 character backlit information screen is very clear and easy to read. Operation seems very straight-forward to me, I only needed a few minutes with the manual to familiarize myself with the functions that were new to me.

Okay phone but very inconsistent.
Okay for the first couple of days this phone worked great, but after about a week it just stopped working all the time. Like the machine would ring but the phone wouldnt turn on so i couldnt answer it. I would wait 5 minutes and then it would work. The answering machine is the only reason that i gave this two stars it really only deserves one. So i dont know maybe my phone is defective but i would not recommend this phone to anyone.

Love this item--wish was a digital phone too!
Basically, I love the phone. Everything makes sense; everything works the way that you would expect. Love the ergonomics. Phone quality is good (read: I would prefer digital). Answering machine is great.

good phone, but it died after 15 months
We bought the phone in Jan 2002. It had all the features we were looking for, held its charge, was intuitive to operate, etc. The two issues we found were that it interfered with our wireless computer network (I believe an issue with other 2.4ghz phones) and the gotcha was that the handset died 15 months after we bought it (right after the one-year warranty expired). Uniden told us to replace the battery, that didn't work, repair is more than the phone is worth. It was good while it worked.

good phone, lots of features, medium quality
I bought this phone at Christmas and waited to review as I wanted to get in a couple of months of use before submitting my review. So far the phone has been reliable. Charge time is more than sufficient. I have 2 teenagers who constantly leave it off the base and it hasn't run out on me yet. There are plenty of features, answering machine is great - messages are very legible and very easy to retrieve, delete, save, etc messages. The speaker phone picks up my voice from another room - person on the other end of the line said I was weak but they could definitely hear me. I could hear them just fine. The back light on the cordless keypad is nice! Thought I would use the keypad on the base a lot more than I have. Probably could have lived without that feature. That's all the good stuff. What I don't like is that there is a slight echo on my end of the cordless. The other person can hear me just fine. Also, the date/time consistently looses time which is annoying as I have to keep reseting it. Overall, I like the phone, the features and am satisfied with the quality. I would buy this product again.

Do you like static?
Well....... that's what you will get with this phone system. It's WAY too noisy!

Excellent Phones!
Here's a great deal for under fifty bucks. These phones feel great on your ear, and sound exactly like corded phones. Their small size lets them fit in nicely anywhere and the base unit mounts easily to the wall. There's a volume control that lets you turn the things up to 11, really loud if you want it.

Not sure why the other reviewer on this list mentioned static -- I didn't notice that at all, and we have lots of wireless devices around here including another cordless phone and two WiFi computers.

There are good reasons why Consumer Reports rated this two-phone set highly, and recommended it. It's a super value for the money. We're buying another set today, instead of getting one of those 5.8 gigahertz models that doesn't even sound as good as this. We had a choice of getting one of those 5.8 GHz phones with three extra handsets for nearly $400, or two of these dual-phone sets for under $100. Easy choice for us.
