We've been looking to replace our Panasonic 900 MHz phone which just died. We tried numerous Panasonic phones (2.4 and 5.8 GHz), and were unhappy with most of them. Brought home the Vtech i5867 5.8 Ghz with the built-in digital answering machine to try out. The phone had great sound quality, but the answering machine sounded terrible. In fact, most of the built-in answering machines we tried were awful. I know, digital will never be as clear as tape. But you should at least be able to understand part of the message a caller leaves. We finally found the ip5825 and decided to purchase a separate digital answering machine (AT&T). We're very happy with our choice. What can you say? The price is reasonable, the phone has excellent sound quality and range, and it uses the standard AAA rechargeable batteries. So you can go to your local Wal-Mart for replacements. I've been a panasonic fan for along time, so it was hard at first switching to Vtech. But the Panasonic 5.8 GHz phones were all pretty expensive compared to the Vtech. And to be honest, didn't sound as good.

The only negative I would mention is the on/off buttons on the handset could be a little larger and easier to locate. But the ip 5825 has the "any key answer" feature, which kind of makes that complaint mute. You can't go wrong for the price.

These phones are an excellent choice. Read the above features for all the normal stuff.

The phones work great. Unusual items of interest:
1) The phones SHARE a phone book. This is very cool. If you are using the second handset, and you have typed all the numbers into the first handset, they will all be there.

2) The phones use standard size NimH batteries. This should make it very easy to replace them when they wear out (a common cordless phone problem).

Downsides: Only supports the 2 handsets it comes with.

When I first bought this product a couple of years ago, the driving reason was APC's reputation and the price of the unit. I had worked with some APC UPSs in my job and was impressed with the quality of the product.

Well, last week this product earned it's keep. Lightning struck a tree not more than 30 feet from our house. It fried one TV, 2 VCRs, and other items (not protected by APC products, but by other generic power strip surge suppresors).

However my computer was hooked up to one of these units, and it came through without a scratch. Our phone lines took a hit and had to be replaced from the street. Fortunately I had my modem line run through the Surge Arrest, so the modem was fine. The Surge Arrest does appear to have lost it's telephone line protection capability (dial tone at the wall, no dial tone after the Surge Arrest), but it's a small price to pay.

APC does have a product replacement policy for lightning strikes. I probably could get my unit replaced, but you know, I'm just going to buy a new one. The power outlets still work and I'll just use the old unit for other electronics.

One final note, the lightning strike apparently also entered our cable TV system. Our area is getting cable modem service soon and I am concerned about protecting that path into my computer. APC does make two products tha protect cable lines, but not many places sell them yet. I'm looking for them now as I want to protect my new TV/VCRs.

APC products offer excellent value, and this device is not marketed enough. Besides the obvious features, it also controls the power coming through coax cables. Possibly some people have money floating around to replace all their equipment when the cable gets spiked with power along with everything else. Not me. I have one of these plugged into each cable coming into the house, and I've never regretted it. My neighbors should have regrets. They don't protect their cable drops, and their electronic equipment burned up -- turned into interesting "burned toast" -- during an electrical storm. The cost of the APC devise more than paid back the risk of losing my other equipment.

OFFICE DEPOT order processing was excellent also. This could be a six-star combination.

If you are looking for a well made, easy to use, dependable wall phone that will serve you for years look no further! The AT&T 100 combines classic styling with modern functionality, all at a good price! The dial buttons are easy to use and have a great feel to them. The built-in features like redial, mute and volume control are all easily accesible and work well. All in all, a great phone at a great price. My favorite!

I was surprised that my new cordless phone didn't have two jacks built into it. This little gadget solved my problems, letting me run my phone cord as I always had before: wall - phone - computer.

I don't know why people don't review batteries! I mean, how would we be able to use our portables without batteries! Well, this is a great battery! Lasted a very long time (w/recharges)! Highly recommended for anyone requiring good batteries!

I've had this phone for several years and it has been very durable plus the price is right!

this is the best phone in the world and i am not even playing i hav 3 of these in my house and they have the best recp in the world i recomend this to anyone who wants a cool phone

I have been having troubles locating a headset that doesn't automatically reduce what I can hear and the volume of my voice by half or so. I bought a really nice, clear new phone system from Panasonic and the headset that came with it was of poor quality in this regard. A friend turned me on to this headset by Bell and I am so satisfied with it I have thanked my friend on three separate occasions (I spend a lot of time on the phone).

It's also pretty comfortable. About the only thing I think it could use is perhaps a little more cable length. It's short enough that you're not constantly tripping over it, so that's a plus. But sometimes it's just a tad too short. Would be nice to get another 5 or so inches of cord.

I definitely recommend this headset!

We love this phone. It gets great reception and is very durable. It is constantly getting knocked off the couch onto the floor or dropped and it is still works as great as it did a year ago when we bought it. I love the large talk button. We are getting one just like this for my elderly father-in-law as it is comfortable to use and the buttons are easy to read.
