They couldn't make this any worse...
I've had my machine for two years. What a piece of junk. The paper doesn't feed in straight -- it emerges crinkled, if it doesn't get jammed. The digital answering machine is unclear. The phone is too quiet, even when turned up, and the battery burned out quickly. The print is fuzzy. There is not a single decent feature on this item.

bad quality sound reproduction & undeletable faxes
This machine is easy to use and has a good quality cordless phone. The quality of the little computer chip which records the incoming messages is not good, however, and many times messages are totally indecipherable. Tapes are far better than chips.
My main beef with this machine which drives me crazy is that you cannot delete faxes from the memory. So if someone sends you an unwanted 20 page fax while you're out - even when there is no paper in the tray - it gets stored in the memory and the only way you can get it out of the memory is to print it. Turning the machine off does delete it. You can waste a [money amount]cartridge just clearing the memory of your machine. Cartridges are [spendy] and print surprisingly few pages.

Very good home office fax
I looked around thoroughly before settling on this one. The most critical feature for me was the ability to automatically separate fax from phone calls without human involvement (there are plenty of machines that can do this) and serve as an answering machine. I also wanted plain paper and relatively high quality faxes. That is has a cordless phone is a bonus but the fax from handset is a bit bizarre -- how far away from the fax could you be that you can't push 'start' or 'receive'. The speakerphone is good enough to listen in on conference calls or to dial hands free, but it is only C+ quality for the poor people listening on the other end. There are many other features (internet faxing for inexpensive bulk faxes) that ambitous small businesses may find useful, and I will never use.

In the end it was a decision between buying this versus those swiss-army-knife-like 5-in-1 units. I had used the inkjet versions and been completely frustrated by the poor construction and lack of durability (yes, all of them). For the laser versions it would have meant spending about $200-300 more for a unit that inevitablity sacrified quality of at least of the functions (say, fax and scanning) in order to squeeze it into one box. The reviews of others on Amazon support this to be true pretty much across the board. I've opted for getting a good fax (this one) and continuing to search for a solid, inexpensive laser printer.

    Does not hold up
I have had this phone for about six months, and although the reception is fine, the buttons don't work well anymore. Sometimes when I press a number, nothing happens. Sometimes pressing once makes it dial twice. I hope they let me return it.

    Great basic phone
I've owned this phone for two years now and have been very impressed with it's call quality. The incoming sound is great - just about like a corded phone. The phone is static free in my two bedroom apartment. The keys have a nice solid feel and the handset has a nice weight to it (feels comfortable for long calls). I've changed the battery once (it does need charging every other day). It does have one weird problem. Sometimes it doesn't ring on the first ring. I highly recommend it for a cheap basic phone. ... I know it's discontinued, but it's still widely available on the internet new.

A good phone at a good price
I've had this phone for about eight months and have had no problems so far. Reception is fine a good distance away from the base; I can go down to the mailbox or the laundry room or the parking lot of my apartment and still be able to talk. Battery life is good--basically, this is a fine phone at a fine price. It's not fancy, but who needs fancy? If you want a good, basic, cordless phone, you could do much worse than this.

    Good battery
Before you purchase this battery, MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT BATTERY MODEL FOR YOUR PHONE. It's a very good, stable battery. When fully charged you can talk on the phone for at least four, five hours straight. Note that after a while (about a year or so) the battery will be weaker at its fully charged state. It will probably only give you only one-two hours talk time. So you will need to replace the battery by then. This is the case with ALL rechargeable batteries for phones, cellphones, and other items. They eventually become less effective after a number of charges.

    Works great
After reading existing reviews on this product, I thought I might have made a mistake ordering this battery. Upon receipt, over a week ago, I plugged it in my Uniden phone, charged it, and it's been working great ever since. I haven't had to recharge it yet, and there's no problem whatsoever.

    One flaw...
I read the review that cited one major flaw with this phone. I was really interested in the phone and the review made me curious. I downloaded the manual from another site and found that the caller ID can diplay (and dial) the number in several formats. One version does not include the "1" before the area code but you can set the phone up to dial this way. I bought the phone and it woks great!

    The DSL Dilemma
Thank you Tina! We got this phone as a gift and really enjoy its many options...truly. It is a lot like having a cell phone in the kitchen, but the tones are fun and the address book is great. However, we too had the DSL dilemma. The manual does not really address this issue and was only giving us minimal information about the static problem we were facing, but the review listed on this page solved out problem! We had a filter on the line, but found the filter to be faulty, when corrected, our phone was great!

    This phone is fine
This phone has a great sound as long as you have a noise filter if you use DSL. It took me buying 3 diffrent phones(3 brands) to find in the user manuel this information. Not even AT&T customer service gave me this important info, so if you have DSL and buy any 5.8 cordless you may need a filter. If you have fuzz or static try this before you return to the store. Phone has many options that others do not. Wall paper isn't great but is a nice feature. I like the way this phone hangs on the wall unlike the others 5.8 this one does not stick out too far on the wall. Ring tone are not the best but if you like the way cellphone sound than the tone are just fine. Give this phone a try and do not forget the filter. TLAdams

    Item has problems.
The caller ID stopped working after a few months, and we have to beat the phone repeatedly when we answer the phone, just to get rid of the static. I cant even figure out how to change the channels on this thing. if someone knows how, let me know, otherwise stay away from this model!

    manual
Help, I lost my manual and was wondering if anyone can help me get another copy of it.
my e-mail is mebud2fly2@aol.com Thank you

    I love this phone
I personally think this phone is great! I love it, i love the mailboxes and the feature of checking any one of them when i'm away from home. The handset is fantastic with numbers at hand. I love that you can check messages from another room. And it's great because a headset is included. This phone is just fantastic.I've had no problem with static, perhaps in an isolated area it might have a problem, but that's to be expected, because duh, it's an isolated area. I've had no problems whatsoever with this phone.

Cheaper than cheap - the quality is [bad]
If you like to repeatedly punch buttons, you have super hearing and love to read manuals then by all means this is the phone for you - otherwise don't waste your money on this P.O.S.

This is by far the worst cordless phone system I have ever bought. I picked this one over others because of the price and because it had the 2 remote cradles and 2 handset - perfect for my home office, but this is greatly overshadowed by the POOR overall quality of these phones.

Overall sound quality of hearing someone speak thru this phone is downright [bad], it needs to be in an absolutely quite environment to hear anyone talk on this phone - then at that it sounds like a walkie talkie.

When you punch number buttons to dial out, most likely you will have to punch the number all over again to work, even though the display shows that you punched it in, it just doesn't make all the tones for each number you punched, so either punch it in all over again (and hope it takes this time) or hit the re-dial button which is lamely disguised as the "LNR" button (last number re-dialed). I thought well maybe it's just the one phone, let's try the other one, well same thing too with the second handset as well. Even when you try to disconnect you sometimes have to hit the button two or three times to disconnect.

If you want to use any other features other than make a phone call - forget it - you have to read the manual to figure it out as the button layout and abbreviations for each are hardly intuitive.

If there was a "zero" for rating products, that is what this product would have gotten but 1 was a low as this review would go.

I have had no trouble with my phones except for the batteries and the problem with hold and tring to pick it up with a corded phone, but I can live with that. I get great range and clarity. I just can not find a replacement battery anywhere. Can any one help me ?

    DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!
We got this phone as a wedding gift not more that six months ago. After about three months, it began malfunctioning. Sometimes, when the phone rang and you tried to answer it, it would not answer. It would also not charge when you put it back on the base, so the battery would go dead and there was nothing we could do. We tried to contact Panasonic to have it fixed, but we kept getting the customer no-service run around and finally gave up. I recently accidentally dropped the phone off the kitchen counter, and the antenna broke-so it's not too durable either. I came to Amazon.com and purchased the VTech VT 1920c digital cordless phone with caller ID - strangly...the same price as this phone.

A Good Phone If Your Deaf
I brought this phone twice, thinking that the first one was defective. It had a very loud destortion level that seemed to increase with the length of time one stayed on the phone. The speakerphone worked great, the handset was comfortable, its just to bad i couldn't understand anyone I was talking to with the handset. Look somewhere else.

    Depends on your luck.
The first time I bought it the phone works terrible. The person who receive my call could barely hear me. I return the phone and got a new one as replacement, and it works great. The sound quality is very good and I always like the handy sleek design of Panasonic phones. It has headset plus, which is really useful for me when I chat with my wife living in another city. I like this cordless phone among all the phones I had ever used.

    Don't waste your time
I purchased this phone thinking it was similar to the SoundStation 100, the difference being this one is newer, sleeker, and cheaper... I was wrong.

The sound quality is terrible. I could not hear a person speaking from a handset without clipping. When I spoke, others said it sounded like I was in a tunnel, or very far from the mic. This was in a room about 10x12. They said it is for small rooms... Like a closet perhaps?

I am going to step up to the SoundStation 100... Which has much better reviews. I'll review it there...

    Step up to SoundStation
I bought this phone hoping it would be similar in quality to the polycom soundstation phones we use at work. It was not.

When I use the phone, I often cannot hear the first half sentence of the other party when they begin speaking. They complain that I sound like I am in a huge room, and can't hear me if I get more than a foot from the unit.

    I am most disappointed.

    Excellent for office conferences.
I use it for my SOHO and it works great. I do not understand who other users have posted negative comments on this product. It works great, the sound quality is pretty good for the price. Soundstation with mics is better, but also three times as expensive.

    Not too good!
At first I was thrilled with my new phone. Then the battery life declined, then the deleting of phone calls on the ID got annoying then the charger decided that it just didn't want to work anymore. By then the warranty wore out and having it fixed was not cost effective. My advice, take a couple steps up or down the Sony® price ladder of it's a Sony® you want.

    Poor Quality
When I first bought this phone I loved it and went out and bought another one just like it, but with an answering machine too. The reception was perfect, but now a year later the caller ID screens on both of them no longer work at all. Very poor quality and durability for a Sony.

    Excellent Phone!
We replaced our non-Sony phone in our bedroom with this one and we haven't had any problems with it - in fact we use it more that the main phone in the living room! We've had it for about a year I'd guess and now we are looking for the same style to replace the one in our living room! :)
