Don't believe description!!!!
The description says that this item includes an extra handset and charger. It didn't come with one. When I contacted customer service I was told that it was a misunderstanding on MY PART!!!! I have tried to escallate the issue and have not received a response. I will update if they ever decide to contact me.

love it!!
We use this phone for our small business, now going to buy more handsets to expand. I think it is great!! We work in a steel building and have no problems with signals. Nice to have the intercom feature to page the other phones to announce the callers, etc.

GREAT PHONE!
I have to say I really love this phone... no problems what so ever. The distance is great; we haven't had any problems with reception within the house or outside it. Nice display with caller id. Buttons work great and the phone fits nicely into your hand. The only thing that I do suggest is that you do read the description...Extra Caller ID Handset and Charger Included, it means as well as the base set wiih caller id, you also receive the handset and charger.

Don't Bother...
I got a chance to test this device rather than buy it and was sadly dissappointed. As slow as video over phone lines can be, this device only comes with a 33.6 modem instead of a standard 56k modem built in. The configuration interface is primitive, using the phone keypad to maneuver through the menu, reminiscent of old DOS programs. The screen can be toggled between pc or camera view. There is no way to open a window on the desktop to show the camera view. And as far as this being advertised as a surveillance camera or baby monitor, the only thing you're going to monitor will have to be in the same room as you because of the length of the monitor cable. I can't imagine paying so much for so little.

Great Videophone product
I have had agreat time with this videophone and friends across the US and in Japan. The picture quality is pretty good and I have had no problems with setting this up or getting it to connect. The other review slams this product pretty good and I do not understnad why. Videophones CAN NOT have a 56K modem because the H.324 standard calls for 36K only. 56 K modems transmit in one direction only at a time therefore it is far to much bandwidth for a standard telephone line and you would only be able to communicate in one direction which does not make sense. This product works well and there is no delay with the audio and only a slight delay with the video (this is all adjustable based on your preference). I think this is a greaty product at a good price. You wont get any better video unless you get a T1 or ISDN line which is expensive, has a high comlexity for setting up and just costs way too much. This overall is great idea and delivers on that idea.

AT&T 1725 and 1726 both gave me headaches
I got about 5 months out of this machine before it went kablooey (sp?). I returned it and they (not amazon, but Staples) could only give me another of the same model. 8 or 9 months later, I am looking at that machine and it doesn't work.
When it did work, the sound quality (announcement and incoming messages was very poor.
My next model I bought was the one that Staples happened to have: AT&T 1726 (!). The look of the machine is totally different, so I didn't make the brand connection. It failed in 7 months. My friend sent me hers ("works fine") thru the mail. I plugged it in and had the same problem. That makes 4 (four) AT&T answering machines that broke. The phone company came twice to investigate their lines/equipment, which were fine.
I suggest that AT&T reduce their warranty to 5 months. That way, they are free and we can just throw the things out.
In fairness, I should say that just today, while speaking to a Radio Shack tech, he told me that power surges could be the culprit. Being ignorant of these matters, I don't know...

I love this machine
I bought my 1725 about 6 years ago (in 1998) and it has never failed me. When I recently got married, my husband had the same machine and has had his for 3 or 4 years. We are giving away one of the machines to a friend since they both still work well. Neither my husband or I have ever had a problem with it. I love the amount of time we have on the machine and we can instruct someone to use another box on the machine so we know right away if they have called. I'm sure there are newer and better machines out there now but we don't need to bother with them. This still fits my needs after 6 years.

wrong battery for the Panasonic KX-TG1000N
In March 2002 I had to send this battery back for credit as this phone requires a two cell battery unit instead of this three cell unit which is too big to fit in the handpiece battery compartment. So far I have found no other source for the correct Panasonic battery except Panasonic.

Also fits Uniden EXI8966
Bought this battery Jan. 2001, for my Uniden EXI8966. Works beautifully for over a year now. I believe several Radio Shack cordless phones with the handset look like this Uniden, are made by the same manufacturer so this battery should fit those phones as well.

Keep shopping
What a piece of junk. I took a hammer to mine after it failed to record a outgoing message 10 times in a row.

A great little machine...esp for the price
My elderly folks bought this answering machine several years ago after trying about 4 others. This one proved to be reliable, trouble-free and very easy for them to use. They are gone now, and I am using it at my own home, replacing a single-cassette type of machine.

The BIGGEST PLUS of the machine (for my wife and myself) is how easily we can delete a message anytime, even while we are listening to it. We get too many calls from those pesky automated calling systems (telephone SPAM) and they usually last at least 2 minutes. With our other machine, we had to listen to the ENTIRE message before we could delete, save, etc. With this machine, we can delete the message as soon as we realize it's junk...WITHOUT HAVING TO WAIT UNTIL THE ENTIRE MESSAGE PLAYS! It's a snap and worth every penny I didn't pay!

I'll probably buy it again when this one goes.

Cheaply put together
Very cheap plastic paper-feeder tray snapped in easily enough for me, but it never snapped back out, nor would it feed the paper used for fax confirmation in easily. The other feeding system for the actual faxes seemed to work just fine at first, but then I noticed the paper frayed noticeably on one side if you resent it several times--not a good flaw if you want to resend one page, like a resume, to multiple employers. One last drawback is the included ink cartridge that is meant only as a "test cartridge" for up to 30 pages of use. Then, for around $20, you are supposed to buy a replacement ink cartridge that will last for another 150 pages of use. Well, the price was nice, but the product was not. I bought this at Office Depot and to their credit, they gave me a full refund without any re-stocking or re-packing fees, quite unlike CompUSA's return policy. I feel sorry for the poor fellow who has to re-pack that thing, though. Good luck on getting that paper feeder back out.

Good economical fax for home or small office
I use this in my home office. I don't send alot of faxes or make alot of copies so I didn't need anything fancy and didn't want anything overly technical or expensive. This fits my needs perfectly, beginning with its low cost ($59 new, after $10 rebate, from on-line merchant). It's small so doesn't hog desk space, easy to set up and use, has plenty of features (more than I'll ever need or use) and though the print quality isn't the best you'll ever see, it is easily legible and certainly satisfactory, for both faxing and copying. It may not be the machine for large offices or someone who sends alot of faxes or makes alot of copies, but, as an economical fax machine for occasional use in a home or small office, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one.

    Don't Buy
I bought this phone about a month ago because I was looking for a cheap phone with caller ID. Needless to say this phone is cheap for a reason. The phone requires 4 AA batteries to get the caller ID to work. When I put them in the caller ID showed nothing. I thought it was broken until I found that I could see the caller ID if I held the phone at an angle and in the light. If I looked straight on, I saw nothing. The caller ID system is a joke. If you are buying this phone for solely the PHONE, then it is a good purchase. But if you want this phone for the caller ID system then save your money. It isn't backlit and it is impossible to read. I have already ordered a different phone.

Good and Cheap - Works Great!
This is a good buy if you want a corded phone. It has a nice look to it and is easy to use. You have to put in your area code, language (they have 3 available), and the time. It holds batteries to keep up with the caller id stuff, but it is still a dependable phone for when the lights go out. The caller id is good and easy to read. It has call back for the last number called and you can do all kinds of stuff like store numbers on a speed dial and even a one touch dial for a few numbers. ... The phone has a nice sound and doesn't sound like a cheap phone. There wasn't anything wrong with this phone that I can tell. The programming on this phone when you get it isn't too terribly painful. It only took me about 2 minutes. Then, it was plugged in and working great.

    Okay phone
The talk button is too large and continually hangs up when balancing the phone on your shoulder. The phone does get good reception and the battery has never died on me.

The phone is okay, but not the best I have ever had. But the price is good and you get what you pay for.

    OK, but wasn't tested enough
This phone is OK as portables go. Battery life is acceptable but not great. Reception is good. It has one major fault in design. The TALK button is large and placed so that if you try to hold the phone with your neck (like when retrieving a toddler from the toliet), it hangs up on your caller. All of my friends and family HATE my phone. If you use your hands to hold the phone (as I'm sure your chiropractor would recommend), this may be a fine phone, but I don't recommend it for anyone with small children (or other things to do with their hands).

Orderd on Sep 2 said two three days deliver today is 10th and have not received merchandise. Shipper in same state as me.. dont look like I will get merchanside either

    Nice Buttons!
This is a great phone for the visually impaired or for people with dexterity problems. The buttons are clear, big and have a nice feel to them. The sound is very clear and the handset has an easy to use volume control. The ringer volume is adjustable as well. It could use a longer handset cord, however. I recommend this phone for anyone who is tired of fumbling around with the tiny buttons found on most phones.

    Looks good on paper, but...
I got this phone for the telephone company voice mail indicator, which other 4-line phones don't have. After about a year, the results have been quite unsatisfactory:

    (1) I have replaced three of them because some of the buttons stopped working. They must have fragile switches or something.

    (2) Two of the phones will pick up line 2 on speakerphone, spontaneously. The phone will just be sitting there and then the line 2 light comes on, the speakerphone comes on, and then you can hear a dial tone.

    (3) Sometimes the phone has a mysterious delay (1-5 seconds) before it will let you pick up a line when it is ringing. I pick up the handset, push the button, try again... eventually, the line connects, unless the caller hangs up first.

    (4) Voice mail indicator often does not know when there are no more messages and keeps blinking (there is a way to turn it off manually).

    (5) Conversations bleed through between lines.

Looks like buggy chips to me. The phones are "IBM" brand but really made by TT Systems. As soon as I can find another 4-line phone with an FSK voice mail indicator, these are all going in the trash.

    Easy Hookup, Good Range
Does it all--except you cannot hear the party talk back to a page until they pick it up. Everything else it superb.
