Unacceptable for home use
Great range, OK qualityWell, this phone works admirably - it has more than enough range for a large property with no fade out. The handsets are tough and feel solid (they are really meant for factory or warehouse use). Battery life hasn't been an issue for us at all - in a home you usually keep the handsets in a charging cradle when not in use anyways. Voice quality is as good as the Siemens was. And the fact that it works at 900 Mhz is a bonus since it won't interfere with my wireless Ethernet (802.11) network.
This is an update since I've had these phones for about 6 months now: They aren't perfect. When you put the phone into the cradle to recharge, you have to put it in carefully otherwise it'll look OK, but won't be recharging. Also the recharging contacts are fragile compared to other phones and in fact I have to toss out one of my SN-920's 'cause the contacts got damaged. And the microphone on another SN-920 died. Also, the phones aren't comfortable against your ear.
My ideal phone would have the SN-920's distance with better ergonomics and better recharge contacts. Unfortunately, I don't know of such a phone.

product stopped working after three months
A couple of old misleading reviewsNote that the tech details also says that the two units are connected by Infrared (not RadioFreq, like a cordless phone, like I'd expect...).
Be sure you can can return this unit! If you need high speed (modem) or caller ID, I'd go for a wired cable (I'm am an engineer... :-(... ).

very poor sound quality
Fairly good at the beginning, died out after 9 monthsHaving just bought a Panasonic cordless phone TGA 2224, which has much inferior sound to GE 27998GE6, I am disillusioned with Panasonic.
Why can't they make good electronics? So that we have to keep on buying them?
Everyone seems to be recommending the TCA 60, which is much cheaper.
A feature I found on a RadioShack one HS-1958, which would be nice to see elsewhere, is a gooseneck arm for the microphone, which allows you to better adjust the distance from your face without having to move it up, which prevents you from being heard.

1 key fails
The number 1 on the keypad stops working.
Callers complain they can't hear me!!!!Not a great phone for family use...better for business situations. For family use, it drives the children crazy that they can't simply pick up an extension when another family member has answered the phone elsewhere and the call is for them. They have to learn how to hit the transfer button AND which extension number to transfer to (which is problematic since the cordless phones float around the house!!).

a complete waste of money
toshiba sg 1700
Toshiba failed me:-(
the sound is nearly unusable. on the handset, people tell me i sound really quiet. on the speakerphone, they can barely hear me. on the headset, they can't hear me at all. additionally, the speakphone output fades away when there's even a little bit of ambient noise in the room -- this is a common problem with home office phones but it's exceptionally bad on this model.
i've tried returning this phone and getting a new one a couple times but to the same result. i contacted AT&T to see if they could help but they gave me the cold shoulder. it's no use -- this phone is awful.
i really want to like this phone but it can't. i'm only holding on to it until i can find a good, corded, two-line phone that works. any suggestions?
