Good Features - Bad Battery
Pleasantly SurprisedThe first charge took around 15 hours. I was excited to see 3 clicks (the full charge) and I made sure that nobody in the house put the phone back on the base so that it would run all the way out. The next day there was still a full charge, but then the day after it went down to two clicks and then, within a couple of hours, it said it needed to be recharged. "That's it," I thought, "This phone is going back." But, alas, I gave it one last try.
I charged the phone overnight until it had a full charge. I then took it off the base and the phone lasted a week! Unbelievable!! Since then I haven't had any problems at all. I guess I was lucky and got a phone that's not a problem. As most others have mentioned, I love the phone features, although I am a little disappointed in the "digital duplex" speakerphone (I was hoping for a full-duplex speakerphone, it's really more of a half-duplex with extra sensitivity - fortunately we never use the speakerphone, anyway). I absolutely love the blinking light and note on the handset when we have a voicemail, and it's now so easy to check our voicemail after programming the voicemail number and password into the phone. We just hit the voicemail button, it dials the numbers, waits, hits pound and our password and we're in. All in all, I'm extremely pleased with the phone and happy that I was unable to cancel the order.

Do not buy this phoneBattery lasts only 5-10 minutes when the unit was completely charged. I finally trashed this unit.
Pricy, but worth itHere are the pros of this phone:
1) The quality of the sound is absolutely great, no one would ever know you're using a cordless phone. Even the speakerphone is really good. I use it quite often - it's very handy carrying the phone around with you everywhere and not having to put it by your ear all the time.
2) The range is super (I've tested my unit at least a 100 feet away from the house, and it was crystal clear!).
3) I've had no problems at all with battery life. (I'm just mentioning this based on other reviews I've seen about this phone).
4) The phone has 2 ringer volumes (low and high) and 6 different tunes - this was important to me since I was going to keep the phone in the bedroom and didn't want a loud or annoying ring to wake me up. I ended up choosing a low ringer volume with a nice melodious tune and I simply love it! I don't wake up grumpy anymore when the phone rings and wakes me up!
Here are the cons of this phone:
1) When reviewing the caller ID list, there's no 'CLEAR ALL' - so you have to go through all the calls one by one and clear them as you go along. Although, it does group together the same phone number and just lists that number once and tells you how many times that number called you. For instance if someone called you 16 times from the same phone number, the caller ID list would show that number only once, followed by 'x16'. Still, a 'clear all' would have been nice!
So overall, I think the phone is a little on the expensive side, but certainly worth the money. The speakerphone on the handset and the different ringer tunes are (in my opinion) two of the best features of this phone!

Here are the cons of this phone:
1) When reviewing the caller id list, if you delete the numbers one by one, it takes very long for a single deletion. Deleting all the numbers one by one takes forever. You can 'clear all', but obviously you can't use that if you'd like to keep one or two numbers (which is what I typically like to do).
So overall, I think the phone is a little on the expensive side, but certainly worth the money. The speakerphone on the handset and the different ringer tunes are (in my opinion) two of the best features of this phone!

20 min. Battery Life
Bad battery, bad reception.
Great Phone but the battery life is terribleMake sure when you hang it up for a recharge that the phone is faced toward the base, meaning it charges more quickly that way, the only drawback is that you cant see the caller ID screen that way.

This phone stinks
this phone sucked!
poor !1. The phone unit is too small and is not comfortable to hold or to have resting on your shoulder. If you have big ears and hands, this phone will be intolerable.
2. On several occasions, I'd dial a number and as soon as the other party picks up my phone would shut off. I shouldn't be having these problems.
3. I can't use the phone and answering machine at the same time. Sometimes when I get a message, I like to dial the number as it comes off the machine. At other times it's important for me to share messages with others. This phone does not allow for either use.
4. One good feature is that even if your electricity goes out, your messages are saved and can be retrieved later on. During a power failure, however, this phone does not work.
Unfortunately, I don't recommend the purchase of this phone.
I hope Lucent Tech/ATT product designers read these reviews so that they could come up with better products.

Great cordless phone
Well, I don't know what all the fuss is aboutWith all that abuse, it is beginning to show problems after 3 years. Thinking seriously about keeping the answering system (base), retiring the handset, and buying a new cordless without an answering syetm.
This unit has been discontinued. You see it is listed for half of retail.Maybe I was lucky, maybe I wasn't, but I must say this phone has been a very good one.

Siemens Has Lost My BusinessI called Siemens to see about getting replacements since I was still in warranty and was told that the Gigaset 2420 was a new product and they didn't have their replacement process setup yet and I should call back sometime in the future. What the...! So, I replaced those two handsets with my own money. And then the buttons slowly started failing on two of the handsets that I use most often. I had to press the number buttons a certain way to get them to work. It was a major pain when dialing a number.
I called the support center again. I'd had the phone for 13 or so months at that point. The support people told me that they'd had a lot of problems with the durability of the handsets. They acknowledged reported cases where the phone had been turned off and would not turn back on. They didn't seem too surprised about my buttons failing. They offered to replace my current handsets with refurbished ones.
That was about a year ago. In the last few months I noticed the buttons are failing again on the 2 main handsets. It's getting harder and harder to dial a number. One of the handsets also seems to have a worsening reception problem that sounds like I'm getting interference from a microwave but that's not it. The other handsets don't have this problem.
I called the support group the other day and was told that my product was out of warranty since I'd had it for 2 years. I told them that I respect warranties but this is a defect problem. I expect a handset to last longer than one year before it starts to fail. They told me to basically take a hike. I moved up the ladder looking for someone that would even care to listen to my story but all I got was the company line that they had no authority to authorize a replacement out of warranty.
So, I'm now posting my experience everywhere on the web that I can find. Letting people know that Siemens does not make quality phone handsets and they don't stand behind their product. Does this apply to all the handsets on all Siemens cordless phones? Don't know - but I wouldn't buy another Siemens phone to find out. My advice is to NOT buy from Siemens and instead buy from one of their competitors.
It Gets Hot on the SpeakerThe buttons like all the other views are correct. It can be sensitive at times and it can be non-sentitive. I find myslef having to push the buttons couple of times. At prolong talk, the speaker gets hot for the ears.
I maybe too picky on phones I purchase. This phone works; however, I do not feel comfortable with the features it have. Siemens could have built a more better low value phone quality, particular this model.
