Nothing but the best!
Welcome to the BIG LEAGUES - HDTV Progressive ScanThe GOOD NEWS is we now can enjoy our DVD experience even more, with better clarity (Progressive Scan 480P), color (Color - Stream) and sound (HDCD).
The BAD NEWS is we must decide if we want or can afford this "BIG LEAGUE" world of Progressive Scan?
Here is the BOTTOM LINE, The Toshiba SD-6200 Cinema Series Progressive-Scan DVD Player w/component video, Color Stream Pro & HDCD sound is the player to have for this upgrade!!!!!! The SD-6200 offers the perfect base (foundation) for your HDTV (Widescreen Theatre) System.
NOTE: Progressive Scan must have an originator (SD-6200) and a compatible receiver (HDTV that is Progressive Scan Ready) for the magic to happen.
Toshiba is the Leader in making great DVD players and the greatest for those who are in the HDTV Progressive Scan Mode.
For the NON-PROGRESSIVE SCAN USERS Toshiba makes a great alternative DVD player with Color-Stream Pro and nice capabilities (SD-2150).
Good Luck!
The Besthavent had a single problem yet in 2 months.. its just sad to hear that toshiba is discontinueing the production of it
the only thing i dont like about it.. which u can get used to.. is the remote tv volume controls
after a few uses they get where u gotta push hard to get the volume to change (or at least it seems this way)

Great multi-region player!!I was pleasantly surprised when I unpacked this player and hooked it up to my system. The first thing I did was turn it on and put in a disc, just to see if it worked out of the box. It did! The picture looked good - the sound was good!
At this point I went into the set-up menu (what strange colors to use). I set most of the settings to my preferences. I got to the equalizer settings, and although you can adjust them, the treble and bass boost caused the sound to distort. I generally leave the processing to my pre-amp processor, so leaving these off was the best solution for me. I was surprised at all the options available for the price of this player.
Another slight negative, this time about the remote - you have to point the remote directly at the player. If you are off by a little the remote won't work. I thought my remote was faulty until I discovered this.
It performed as expected when playing a region 2 DVD that I had purchased (on my NTSC TV). It does everything that I bought it for!!
This player is an excellent value at $60.00!! If you are looking for a decent multi-region player, without spending a lot of cash, this player is for you!!!
One last note - I received the product very quickly - within 5 business days!
Very cool bit of kitOther multi-region DVD players can't do this (as they require you to have a TV that can receive both PAL and NSTC) and the player costs 3 times the price of this beauty ! OK, I'm off to watch series three of The West Wing which was available in the UK about a month ago, well ahead of the US release of season 2.
Set country code to 0This is a nice, good looking player. Great value. Well yes, Yamakawa did emply a colorblind menu designer while they released this product. So lets hope you will not have to fiddle with the menu a lot. Other than that. All is good.

Record DVDs as easy as recording VHSI have recorded in the 2 hour and 4 hour formats. The 4 hour format is actually much better quality than I expected. So much, that I have been recording TV shows (Sopranos, Deadwood, Elmo, etc.) in this mode for later viewing.
I do have two minor dissappointments. 1) the technical specification stated that this unit has both optical and coaxial digital audio outputs. This is not true. It only has an optical digital audio output. This is a problem for me, as I don't have enough optical inputs on my receiver and have a coaxial connection to spare. 2) the recording schedule feature is a bit odd in that it requires you to turn off the recorder to record a scheduled program. This is a bit annoying, as I'd like to watch the event when it comes up. Because of this, I have to wait for the recorder to start recording before I can watch TV through the DVD recorder.
Good Buy
Works great, and great price(Ignore the DVD-RAM format. No DVD player I know of except some Panasonic models can read DVD-RAM.)
I'm really happy with the great build quality and great price I got with this model. I didn't need one of those Panasonic models with a built-in hard drive, so I saved money. But if you want TiVo-like capabilities, check out those HD-equipped models.
The best virtue of this Panasonic is it does a great job at what it's supposed to do. I'm sure better models are already in the channel, so I'd say if you can wait a bit longer, wait a bit longer. Otherwise, the Panasonic is your best bet for value, quality, and durability.

beautiful picture, but expensive
ONE OF THE BEST PORTABLE DVD PLAYERS ON THE MARKET!It comes with a 3 1/2 Hour battery, but I got 3 hours 50 mins wow! the built in Speakers go louder then most Portable DvD Players, But that is not saying a lot, get some Sennheiser Headphones or Earbugs, and or some Portable Speakers or Pc Speakers like Creative Labs SBS 350 2.1 just plug into one of the 2 Headphone Output Jacks, and you will have a Kick A_S System!

"Broke" sonic
great product
Price is right:)This Broksonic DVD/VCR is so easy to use. If you aren't familiar with all those red/yellow/white cables and what to do with them. This one can plug directly into cable ready tv's with a normal tv cable. That was something I didn't think of when buying it. I'd only read the reviews that it worked well. The ease of installation as well as operation makes this perfect for anyone. It is the perfect addition for those that aren't electronic's savvy or just want one unit instead of two.
It's got a good clear picture and easy to read remote and menus.
As someone else mentioned this would be great for your children's dvd's.
For the price it's a good buy. It's a basic system without a lot of the extras the others have but it works well.

Problems with the JVC XV-501BK DVD Player
EXCELLENT!There are TONS of DVD titles available (minus the StarWars Trilogy or the Indiana Jones Trilogy). In fact, I receive very informative DVD new title release information updates every week from a highly reputable movie video company/retailer over the internet. Also, cost production ,by far, is cheaper and faster for manufacturers than the old VHS standard (more mechanical moving parts). Plus, while you can still record on VHS, you cannot get the outstanding resolution and clarity of dvd in both picture and sound. S-VHS may rival DVD but it doesn't cut it...
Great Player - Don't worry about the horror story below.I just bought this player, and the picture quality is nearly perfect, by far better than any in it's price range (if you use the SVideo or Component out) and almost as good the several thousand dollar Sony Reference Player.
As far as not being able to read dual layer discs - that's not true - the player has problems with the movie Cruel Intentions, but that's because of parental lock problems with disc, and has nothing to do with the laser. Sad, but true. That movie is being recalled for that reason. Should you try to play this movie you'll have to 'hard reset the player' - to find out how to do that call JVC - not enough room to write it here.
Don't let the problems with one lackluster DVD (which is going to be reissued anyway) prevent you from considering this player - most DVD players have some issues with some discs or amplifiers or lip-sync problems, etc. Knowing the issues with a player beforehand is better than just assumming your DVD player has no issues and is perfect.
Usenet groups are a great source of information. If you hear a horror story about a product, always go there and voice your concerns, you'll most likely find what's really going on. Trying to squeeze useful information from an electronics 'superstore' sales person is pointless - they can point out the store's restroom and are pretty useless after that.
The only thing I wish this player had that it doesn't is a K2 Interface to reduce jitter. Only the 7xx series has it - but it's a pretty high end feature. You'll really like this player and the remote is awesome.
Don't worry - the problems are because the 'Cruel Intentions' DVD this player has problems with are not to specifications, this DVD player is great.

A Disappointing End
pretty nice.I made one mistake after bought this DVD player and that was trying to hook this up to a T.V. a little over ten years old. If you have a T.V. about that old don't try to hook this DVD player up to it, because the sound won't work right.
Throw your CD changer away!Brief highlights include: Built-in digital decoder with outputs for coax and optical, as well as six analog outs. Component, s-video, and composite video outputs. User-friendly menu system with graphical on-screen interface. Picture adjustment for regular, cinema, or animation (cinema is stunning). Beautiful color and clarity. Fast access to layer-switches, and scene changes. Onboard memory for retaining setup options of 15 DVDs (very handy), and the unit will remember where you stopped viewing up to 5 discs if you can't finish a movie.
The only thing missing is a zoom feature, but believe me, you'll never miss it.
All in all, a superb player. If you're looking to get into DVD and would like to preserve some rack space, toss your CD-changer out the window and buy this thing!

Once Again I Am Attracted by Style
Chic, Sleek and FunctionalThe functionality is just right for someone who isn't planning their living room around a gigantic home theatre. It plays DVDs and it plays them well. The CD player function is also good for people like me who don't necessarily have the space for a stereo as well as an AV setup. The slideshow feature for photo CDs has come in handy, too.
I have yet to run into the problem some people have had with SVCDs, but then again, this is not really an advanced machine. It does what it does, and it does it well. I rate it high because for someone like me, limited on space and with no need for supertechnology from my DVD player, it's perfect.
No problems, no complaintsOne earlier review complains that it's "sold as a portable, but it really isn't" etc. This seems to be the main complaint there. But it's NOT sold as a portable, it's advertised as being "transportable." No, you can't watch a thing sitting in the car or the bus or the train. But if you want to bring it with you on a trip and watch something in a hotel or a friend's house (assuming they don't have a player themselves), then it's pretty good. Small, compact, no muss, no fuss. (Clearly, some people need to read more carefully...or look at the picture...)
A. The picture quality of movies and DVD's is nothing less than outstanding
B. The mirad of options, from slideshows, to zooming, to memory, wallpapers, screensavers, and the awesome video game like intuitive controller make watching DVD's nothing less than a totally engulfing experience.
C. Some of the new cheaper DVD players pause and skip due to the amount of data on the DVD...this player has never skipped a beat..plus the dual tray comes in handy for those double DVD movies that seem to be released for every hit these days.
If you have a little more money to spend on a quality DVD player, then get this..it accepts all major connections, and when hooked up to a 5.1 surround sound set and a nice TV, you will have no need to go to the theaters!!
