Home video makers dream8mm. Includes a firewire port for making perfect copies of
mini DV camcorders. I only record in the Fine mode yielding
about 1 hr per 4.7 GB DVD-R. Also records to DVD-RW if you
want to reuse the disc over and over. DVD-R seems to be the most backward-compatible format if you wish to share those home movies with friends. Manual is very informative, but these
machines are fairly complicated compared to VCRs. Excellent
value!

Amazing DVD Player!!!For AUDIO JUNKIES, the MP3 playback is a great feature, but there are lots of DVD players that will do that now. It's great for us because it means I can burn an MP3 cd and play it in the house, in the car and in my laptop at school. If you go all the way and run the audio outs to your home stereo like most folks do now, you will appreciate how much more fun cleaning the house is once you can put in ONE SINGLE MP3 MIX cd and CRANKING IT UP while doing your chores. Swiffering the living room was never any fun until you had the soundtrack to your life going in the background
For PHOTO JUNKIES, the most amazing feature is is the PHOTO playback, both TIFF's and JPEG's. I love that we can now just slip in a photo CD-R or CD-RW and sit on the couch and scroll through the memories. The F41MS even has a rotate function so you no longer have to rotate your photos before burning them to a cd, which will probably save you enough time every year to get out and take enough pix to fill up a few more cd's per year with enough memories to give you plenty of warm fuzzies in your golden years.
Oh, yeah, for the DVD junkies who might actually get around to watching a DVD with it, the performance is amazing. It works great as a plain jane, simple old DVD player, as well. It has many functions that we have come to expect in a high end DVD player today, such as angle and subtitle, for the xenophiles among us. The remote is small and will work with most TV's, so you can eliminate one existing remote, which is a gift from the gods of remote controls (oh, thank you, wife-of-mine, for that precious extra 4 sq. inches of coffee table space).
For BEAUTY JUNKIES, those of us who appreciate finding beauty in useful tools, you will quickly appreciate how well function follows form in most Sony products, but especially so in the DVP-F41MS. It looks arrestingly futuristic filed in your entertainment center standing as a bookend beside your DVD collection, seeming more like a shiny schoolbook from the year 2040 than simply a DVD player. Be very aware that the beauty of this machine also works against it in some situations, like those involving children. Because it looks so great and is shiny kids REALLY want to touch it. You can't blame them, everyone wants to pet this babydoll. Something takes over there bodies and tells them that this must be a great toy, which it is for GROWN FOLKS, so they MUST TOUCH IT, which makes everyone nervous. Suffice it to say that, like all Sony products that I have dealth with, the F41MS is pretty durbale.
All in all, the BEST MULTI-FUNCTION DVD player out there. In this day and age YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A DVD PLAYER, BUT IF YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE ONE, YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ONE MADE YET!!!
If you want a very capable, extremely beuatiful DVD player but don't really want the ability to bore your friends and relatives with thousands of photos at a time, then you could go for the less expensive Sony PSYC or the Sony DVP-F25 for considerably less.

Sony DVP-NS415S ~ Great Connectivity SolutionHere is a quick positive review on Sony's DVP-NS415S. I've owned this player for a month and I also have a DVP-NS315 setup now for over 3 months.
1. CONNECTIVITY SOLUTION. This player has a particularly nice option that I haven't seen on other entry level players: passive A/V inputs. This is the main reason why I purchased this dvp. I use it on a small 20" sony bedroom tv that only has 1 set of inputs. This allows me to daisy-chain my VCR and DSS.
2. GREAT FUNCTIONALITY. I find this player to have that Sony level of congruity that I enjoy. MP3s have a nice menu and are easy to play, you have multiple choices for DVD video quality, and it can play a well-worn DVD without a problem.
The only cavaet I should tell you is that this is an 'entry-level' player only... meaning that you will not have a very robust suite of digital input/output options nor Progressive Scan capability as with another higher-priced unit.
I recommend this entry-level player for TV's with only 1 set of inputs.
