Good value for the priceI've used the tape player very little; I usually listen to public radio while walking (except during pledge periods! I already contribute) and have had no tuning problems. I do use the "hold" button while walking and also when I turn if off.
Battery life hasn't been tested yet. I've used it an hour or more at a time, 4 or 5 times a week, since May - maybe the batteries are on the verge of failing at this point.
I have had no luck tuning the weather bands but didn't buy it for that. The lack of auto-reverse for tapes or provision for an AC adapter are minor annoyances and fairly irrelevant for my purposes.
For the price, I'm happy, though if I start using the tape player more & it fails, I'll probably be beyond the Sony warranty period. Also, the headphones are about what one should expect for this price (I haven't yet tried my Bose noise-cancelling headphones - I don't use them while walking).
Great product for the price.Unless you are a free sweater, the cheap plastic case that comes with this walkman provides enough protection against moisture to take it to the gym with you. It weighs a lot less than the comparable feature sport walkman. If you can do without the unnecessary weather-proof protection (even so, you still can't submerge it in the water) you will have a few bucks more in your pocket and half a pound less in your hand.
A good purchase for the money!
God Bless This Walkman!

TV reception is not goodWith some effort we can find the station but listen to them is not easy. You have to use full volume and this mean low volume to your ears. I have tried others radios and brands with the TV sound feature and they all work poorly. Perhaps a Digital one can deliver more volume but they are expensive. At the price I recoment this PHILIPS since if you are in a quiet room it may be useful.

PLEASANTLY PLEASED
Perfect for my needs

big, clunky, hard to use. This is a device that's designed for one apparent use: to hold in your hand (a large hand; it's too big for my wife to hold comfortably) (and only in your right hand; it is not laid out to fit comfortably in the left hand) while jogging in the rain. Or, perhaps, trail running or some ther "edge" sport.
It's big and heavy; about twice as large as it needs to be. This means, among other things, that you can't easily fit it into a pocket.
The cassette bay opens a bit like a submarine hatch, which is to say it takes two hands and a lot of attention to get the cassette in and out. So, you'd think they'd put auto-reverse in it to reduce mucking around (and keep the water out) but they don't.
The volume knob is very easy to find and adjust, but if the Walkman is anywhere but in your hand (in a coat pocket, perhaps?) the volume changes every time you move.
There's a belt clip, which is on the short list of things I need on a Walkman, but there's also a fabric strap to hold it onto your hand with, and the strap, which is not removable, gets in the way of the belt clip and makes it really difficult to clip securely.
It is ostensibly water-resistant (though it's not meant to play underwater) and there's a rubber seal in the cassette bay. I use my Walkmen primarily for bicycling to work in rainy Seattle, and I've never had a problem with any of them being damaged by water. I guess I'm not extreme enough. This would be a useful feature for a kayaker, I suppose, except that a kayaker would have a hard time holding it in one hand, as he paddled.
But it looks great: if you have one of those traffic-cone yellow Nissan Xterras, this Walkman would look really cool sitting on the hood.
Part I: Basically good sound...
Does anyone know what a hold button is for?!

I'm Happy!Very Happy, I love the Auto-Reverse feature because I listen to a lot of tapes at work and it saves me from having to stop my work to flip the tape over when side one has finished.

Hindsight is 20 / 20
Very good tape player/radioThe reason that I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is that when the batteries are low, the unit just turns off. I would prefer to have it give me crummy reception until I get new batteries, but maybe that is just my own personal preference.
