Sony WMFX481 Walkman Cassette Player with Digital TV/Weather/AM/FM Tuner

    Buyer Beware!
I am disappointed with this walkman. When playing cassettes, it makes a loud whirring noise that can be heard over the music. This has been a problem since the day I got it. Additionally, after I accidentally dropped it once from a height of about three feet onto a soft carpet, the sound plays only through one ear. I realize I shouldn't have dropped it, but clearly this walkman is not a very sturdy or durable product. I expect better from SONY.

    Good deal for the price
I bought this product at a longs drugstore for .... It gets great reception(and i live in a valley) and the tape player is adequate. It comes with a protective plastic "case" that i find helpful to keep your tapes from falling out on large bumps. As far as the TV and Weather band goes,I have not gotten any Weatherband reception(probably due to location)but I do find TV useful(especially in cars). The headphones are quality and large enough and comfortable for the average head. The 25 FM presets are more than enough for me.If you need a good AM/FM Cassette player that will last you a while, this is a good buy. Also, they make a weather resistant sports version with the same features.

    Junky product and service
I bought this TV in Fall 2003. The DVD drawer never opened. After driving many miles to the nearest authorized service station, I waited TWO MONTHS while they searched for the right parts. Now it's February, I've returned the original product to Toshiba, and continue to wait for its replacement to be shipped to me. At every contact with customer service, I've met with sullen and unhelpful people. They do not stand behind their product. I hugely regret buying from this manufacturer and will never again buy from Toshiba.

    Happy in Ohio
Bought this item from Amazon 2 months ago at 30.00 less than they are charging now. However, it has a bright, crisp picture and the DVD works perfectly. My large Panasonic skips and misses, but this one is smooth as can be. The picture is great! I keep it on the coffee table and use it always, instead of my 27" Phillips TV. The electric bill has gone down about $20 per month because of this. I haven't used it in the car or carried it around much, but I would have confidence in doing so. The remote works well, but have to hold it up to the light sometimes to read the small lettering until you get used to where the buttons are. I would reccommend this unit highly, just because it works so well.

    Adequate reception
The radio has adequate reception. Coby is not a compnay I would ever do business with again however. I had a problem with a part and the so called customer service never responded to my complaints. You can get a better radio built by a better compnay for the money.

Great product for thos long car trips
I bought the DVD Video-in-a-bag along with the extra LCD screen (the VBPEX5, the VBPEX56 was not available at that time). This unit is great for taking those long road trips, plus it gives you a DVD player you can use once you arrive at your destination. The only drawback I have found is the size. This is a pretty large unit considering it does not have batteries. You must provide external power from a wall outlet or a car adapter.

You can connect up to 3 LCDs to the unit. One connects through the normal connection, the other two through a special cable. Each screen also has stereo speakers and local volume control. You can also use the remote control by pointing it at any of the LCD screens, the remote detector is built into the screen housing.

The power for the screens comes through the cable, so you don't need extra power for each screen. The screens are switchable between the DVD player and a set of external A/V connectors for game machines, or anything else that provides a video signal.

We put one screen on the back of the seat for the child in the back seat, and the other in the front seat so my wife can monitor and control the DVD with the remote.

I will buy the VBPEX56 (a 5.6 in screen, identical to the one that comes eith the unit) next so we have two in the back seat , one for each child.

    Awsome product
This is a great little system for the money and it's very versatile. The LCD monitor is detachable and can be used seperatley from the DVD player. The monitor itself has A/V inputs and headset jack inputs as well as the Dvd player, which has A/V inputs & A/V outputs. We just take our Monitor & Playstation for short trips, which is very compact. The monitor comes with a seperate case to attach to the front seats. The DVD player has various formats, including VCD & MP3. The DVD player can be used on any tv set without the Monitor. Very nice feature. You can add 2 Monitors to this unit as well. We have 3 monitors which is nice for long trips. Those that wish to play a game can play games while others watch a movie. Very well worth the money and you can do all of this for under $1,000.The versatility of the use in vehicle or home is a big plus for your investment. We were hestitant about buying this product because of the reviews about overheating? We have not had any overheating problems with our unit. The only drawback is the screen size, which is 5.6". Wish it were available with a 7" or larger screen.

    Great for the kids
My husband and I bought this in the summer of 2002 and it is great! I admit we have not used it 100+ times, but we have used it for at least 20 trips we have been on and it is still working great. I would recommend this item for anyone with kids when going on a trip that will take longer than an hour. It is a lifesaver!!!!

    A REAL LEMON!
Save your money, folks. I had mine for 4 months and it blew up 3 days ago. When I say blew up I mean black smoke, burning wires and melting plastic! It nearly caught fire on my end table. BUYER BEWARE. It's cheap for a reason.

    Good cheap TV
I've had one of these for over a year now. I use it 30-45 minutes almost every day watching the news and weather in the bathroom while showering and getting ready for work. Never had a problem with it. Good picture. Okay sound.

    Great little gadget
I bought this as a gift for my finicky father, an avid TV watcher. He loves it! He is amazed at the picture quality, and can't get over how easily it dials to the right channel. He has used it to stay abreast of big games while playing golf, or to have on hand whenever. The only complaint is it runs through the batteries fast, which raised the total price for use. We ended up buying a battery charger to help.

It's been six months since he received it and he still loves it and uses it often.

    Nice TV for the price
I've had this TV for about six months now, and have had a very good experience with it. I bought it on impulse during the 2nd gulf war to replace the 5" B&W I have at work (another Action model that I've had & abused for about 15 years now and is still going strong). The screen is about half normal TV resolution which makes text and graphics hard to read, but you can still make out a weather map and most text, and the portability makes up for it. The tuner seems good and the antenna coupling is steady enough to position it unsupported for the best signal. The speaker is at a good spot to project sound towards you (unlike some other similar handheld LCD TVs) and is easily audible in most situations. Battery life is excellent, too- I'm still on my original set of batteries! All-in-all, this makes for a great emergency TV, or just one to leave at work for tracking hurricanes or other big news stories or to bring out over lunch break, as it's small enough to lock in my desk drawer or in my car. (Speaking of which, broiling in my car in the virginia summer doesn't seem to bother it one bit.) But the screen is just too small and I wouldn't use it all the time for day-to-day viewing. Also, leave it indoors; the LCD is bright even in a well-lit room, but next to impossible to watch in full sunlight.

Action ACN 5503 5" Color Monitor
If you are looking for a tv to connect to cable I strongly recommend looking for another brand. This model has a plug in for an outside antenna that can be used to connect it to cable with the proper adapter (not provided), however because of a poor quality tuner it will not hold the cable channel signal. It looses the channel when the station switches back and forth from local to network broadcasting. Also when you turn the set off and on.I've owned several 5" color tv's and have never experienced this problem. The tv that I purchased was "refurbished" and it was really lousy... I'm not happy with the purchase, but I'm keeping it as it is not worth the hassle of returning it...

    Great while it lasted
this small color TV was fine for less than a year. It has a great picture, even though tuning in to local channels was tricky. Within the first year the sound started to go, but I found if I turned the TV off and on quickly, the sound returned. I don't expect it to continue working at this rate. You get what you pay for!

    Enjoy it while you can...
I bought one of these a couple years ago. The style and size were just what I was looking for, and the picture was fine, but it lasted only a couple of months before it stopped working. I turned it on one day and smelled the distinctive "electrical burning" smell, and the unit was fried. I got what I paid for, but hoped it would last longer than that.

    THE WORST RADIO EVER
I was so excited about getting this radio for Christmas, found it one day while roaming around the store and ask for it for Christmas. I have had it two days and I get nothing but static. I am trying desperatly to find the receipt so I can take this piece of crap back!!!

    Bad interface
I intended to use this radio while jogging, but that's just about impossible. First of all, unlike Sony's older molder that simply had up/down bottons for moving through the pre-set stations, this unit uses a separate button for each station. It's very difficult to select a station without stopping and looking at the unit. The buttons aren't even arranged well so that you could just feel around for them, just look at the picture. In addition to the five buttons for the preset stations, there are 4 or 5 more bottons, all the same size, that can be accidently pressed as well. In short, navigating stations while jogging is about impossible. Too make matters worse, the volume dial is easily bumped, and very sensitive. So, while jogging along, trying to change stations, you're likely to blast your ears out accidently.

Just okay, but not too many other options
The walkman is ok, however, it doesn't seem there are many other options on the market. The arm band doesn't stay on my arms without sliding off unless I'm wearing about five layers of shirts (and I have 'normal' size arms). The sound quality is good and the buttons are easy to hit as you run. As usual with Sony headphones, I have to replace them every few months.

    don't let it get hot....
this little t.v. was not what i needed here in arizona. I bought it so i could take it to the baseball game and watch college football. It wouldn't work after traveling in the car on the way to the game in a backpack. It just got too hot. I carried it from the car to the game in my iced water bag to cool it down. It worked after that, but i had to leave it turned on or it wouldn't have turned back on. Was going to send it back, but didn't want to pay for shipping. Just waiting for the few months here in arizona so i can use it outside.

    Replacement of AC power cord
Although we are very pleased by the item, we have lost the AC power cord on moving. Can we buy a replacement?

    great tv
I was getting this as a gift and he's a sports fan so I decided to get him something he could use and I know he'll love it. a happy customer

    What is in stock ?
I have been looking for a 9" under the counter television. Every item I look at is not in stock. Are you in business or not ? The Philips PR0930X I'm looking for has been backordered for some time. As a matter of fact - I don't see anyhting on your site that is available. Heck of a way to run a business. If you don't have merchandise available you can't serve your customers - what customers you may have left. Provide a service or get out of business - the getting out of business part will take care of itself with this kind of product availability.

    Design defect
This is a nice TV overall but it has a "design flaw" that you should know about before purchasing it.

I record both video and audio only (radio broadcasts) on my VCR. It works fine when there is video but when trying to play "audio only" video tapes or listen to audio only through my VCR the audio section of the TV shuts down completely (silence). This is not a problem with any other TV I own.

In other words, for this TV to work properly it needs a video signal. If not it will not work, it will not play accept audio without video being present.

Finally, when I called Philips Magnavox tech support it was like I was talking to a turnip. No matter how many times I tried to explain my problem to the tech he kept telling me that the problem was in my VCR, the connection, etc., even after telling him numerous times that it played video just fine. He just didn't get it. I asked for his supervisor and he wasn't much better.

    Small 9-inch AC/CD color TV.
This is a very good TV especially for its small size. It has a good quality picture, with good convergence. The overall size for this with a 9-inch tube is the smallest in this class.
It works well on the supplied antenna. FM radio is a bonus as is the full-featured remote control. An AC/DC, TV with all these things is hard to get in such a small package.
Price is reasonable for this size AC/DC set and Philips is there to stand behind it.
This unit is new to me and I only have owner it for a short time. If it last as long as my
    Toshiba 5-inch AC/DC monitor, ( 20 years) I'll be happy.
