TV-DVD-Combination Reviews

Sorry, but I can't recommend this unit. We Purchased this combo for use in the kids bedroom as well as roadtrips. It worked well for the first 4 months - then the dvd went out. While the parts were covered for a year, the labor had just expired and repair was going to cost $150.00 - virtually the cost of a new unit. I wish I had positive things to say about it, but unfortunately we had some bad luck. If you absolutely insist on this set, do yourself a favor and get an extended warranty so you don't take it in the shorts come repair time.

I purchased this item at one of the Warehouse clubs. The price was good and the set worked fine for the first two months. During this time, I did not use the DVD mode on the set. When getting ready to go on a driving trip, I decided to test the DVD portion of the TV. After putting a DVD in the tray, the player would not function. The TV portion and AUX mode were still functioning correctly, but whenever I tried to play the DVD or even open the tray to get the DVD out, the TV would make a few noises then power off. Luckily this happened within the first three months and I was able to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. I would not buy this product again. I ended up replacing it with a similar Toshiba branded unit and hopefully will have better luck with it.

Bought this from a warehouse store about six months and haven't had a lick of problems with it. It's used mainly to watch dvds on. No problems with picture, sound, etc. Satisfied.

I ordered a TV for my daughters birthday three weeks in advance. Not only did it not arrive, but Amazon.com didn't even have the decency to respond to any of my e-mails asking where it was, or what happened to it. Do your self a favor, and NEVER buy anything from these idiots!!!!!!

I purchased one of these for the bedroom. I thought 24" would be a bit too big, but it's actually a nice size for widescreen letterbox DVDs when it's near the foot of your bed. The unit does take up a lot of space though, and it's heavy. 24-25 inches is kind of an awkward size for a TV--too big for a bedroom but too small for a living room. I thought it'd be convenient to have the DVD and VCR combined with the TV, especially only having one remote. Unfortunately while the TV picture quality's pretty good, the built-in VCR and DVD aren't up to par with units I could have bought separately.

The way you get the VCR to record, or stop recording, isn't completely intuitive to me, and the programming options are minimal. It doesn't rewind tapes too fast either. The good thing is, you can record a TV program while watching a DVD. The DVD player, however, is even worse--it takes forever to load a disc, move between chapters, etc. and it's very finicky about disc condition, sometimes refusing to load/play ones at all when my Pioneer unit in the living room doesn't even flinch.

Although it does have the desirable side-mounted speakers, there's only one on each side and they're a paltry 1.5 watts each, hardly adequate for DVD soundtracks or playing music CDs. But, at least is has digital audio output if you want to use an external amp and speakers.

The remote glows nicely if you've left it in direct light, doesn't have awkward buttons at the very bottom, and you can use many of the buttons by feel, however, a lot of them are same-sized and in a perfect grid pattern, and while the button glows the labels do not, so in the dark they really all look the same. The on-screen menus aren't the best I've seen either.

Overall though, I'm pretty happy with this product except for the slow and finicky DVD player. The flat screen does provide a good picture, and the speakers aren't too bad for low-volume listening. It's certainly nice to only have one remote for three devices, and which can actually control all the features.

I really wish there was a NO STAR setting, because that would have been the most accurate review of this device.

First, the DVD player cannot play a variety of DVD's that other DVD players have no problems with, i.e., Gods & Generals.

When I hit the menu or info buttons, more often than not all I got was a little white hand in the corner of the screen.

Also, as far as angle and zoom functions are concerned, forget about them. Zoom is a slow process and angle just serves to conflict with on screen menus.

In other words, when angle does come up and you're supposed to change by using the arrows on your remote, if there are any icons on screen it changes the icons instead, so the angle is unaffected.

Then comes its TV functions, or lack there of. It takes forever to warm up, and you can expect a large black box to randomly appear on screen at any given time. The only way to get rid of the box is to change the channel and change back.

As far as changing the channel is concerned, I have never seen a television change the channel as slowly as this device does. I remember when I say my first remote TV in the late 70's and how long it took the TV to then actually physically move the knob on the TV's front after you pressed the remote button. That was still faster than this DVD/TV combo.

Also that nice on-screen show identification function, I've come to expect from RCA TVs is missing.

I ordered, received and returned this device in less than 15 days.

The tragedy of all of this is that I was an RCA fan! I have an RCA TV/VCR that has served me great for years! I love my RCA VCRs, tape players and alarm clock. In fact, I even wrote a very positive review of my RCA alarm clock on Amazon. I have come to rely on RCA for high-to-mid quality products at a low price point. This is the first time I have seen RCA's quality to be as low as its price.

All of this said, I have to compliment Amazon. This is the first time I have ever had to return a big ticket item to Amazon and their clear, easy-to-follow process has been a tremendous comfort.

So when it comes to this RCA TV/DVD combo, it is to be avoided and if you don't, well, at least you can count on Amazon's low effort return policy to set things right.
