I spent a great deal of time looking at flat-panel, 20" televisions before settling on the Toshiba. The starting price on the Toshiba was higher than comparable sets when it hit the market, but now the prices on all have dropped to about the same point, so price (when compared with other 20" LCDs) is not the issue it once was.

The picture on most sets is similar (I watched several sets in two different stores for quite a while), but I thought the Toshiba had a slight edge. In addition, unlike many sets, the Toshiba's screen tilts, just as most computer monitors would. Therefore, you can adjust it to get the best possible viewing angle.

The Toshiba also has very easy-to reach connections, whereas several other sets require the removal of a large panel to use. There's a small panel on the Toshiba that hides the D/C power and cable connections, but the panel can be replaced over the cords. WIth many sets, you have to leave the panel off while the cords are plugged in--so what's the point of the panel?

Summary: fantastic and clear picture, very lightweight at only 14 lbs, easy-to-move (even has a handle, unlike some flat-panel sets), hooks up in less than two minutes (VERY simple), easy-to-understand remote, and easy on-screen programming that anyone can figure out. Highly recommended!!

This 27" Toshiba is a terrific TV set at an unbelievably low price for this level of quality and performance. Toshiba consistently makes excellent TV sets across their whole model line -- on a par with Sony but less expensive. One reason the picture on this set is so good is that it has a digital comb filter. A digital comb filter is essential for really good picture quality and all top performing sets have them, but few sets in this price range have one. Yes, the picture tube on this set is "only" 27", while sets 50" or larger are now available. But do you really have a room large enough to do justice to a TV larger than 27"? Most people find that a good 27" TV is quite large enough for their TV viewing room. And, if you are one of the lucky few who have a very large room which could really benefit from a larger set, this set would serve nicely as a second set with an excellent picture at a bargain price.

This is a great TV to get if your primary concern is the picture performance. The TV has a very nice crisp picture and excellent color reproduciton. The on screen menu isn't fancy but includes everything you need and is acessible even without the remote. While this TV does not have some of the convenience features (i.e. picture in picture) found on more expensive models, it does have all the hookups nessecary for someone interested in getting the most out of their VCR or DVD player. It also has a very good digital comb filter which I have found smooths out the picture and helps gets the best out of a cable signal. The TV also has a one year warranty on parts and labor, a great deal considering most TVs are only covered for 90 days on labor. The combination of great features and fantastic, reliable performance makes this TV an easy one to recommend.

This television really impressed me with it's large number of available options and, mosre importantly, the number and variety of video inputs. The picture quality impressed me as well as the ability to adjust the color temperature. Overall I'm very impressed with this set and highly recomend it.

I found this Toshiba to have excellent color as well as a fine audio sound! The hookups to the TV are great and have a VERY easy to use control to switch between inputs which can really simplify some installations! Its one year warranty gives one confidence in the product as well as some peace of mind .. although I will doubt that it will be necessary to use (but isn't that we all WANT?)

The Toshiba 36A50 is a monster of a TV, weighing in the neigborhood of 160 lbs. Although it is quite a haul, it is quite worth the effort of moving it. The 36A50 simply has the best picture quality you will see on a 36 inch TV for the price you will pay for it.

This model has the Picture in A Picture which is cool(You will have to use a second tuner), and has the handy Component Audio/video, S-Video, Standard Audio/Video and Coaxial connections. The Component Video connections truly enhances the picture when using a DVD player or Playstation 2. You will immediately notice a big difference in the picture quality when using this over the S-Video or standard Audio/ Video inputs.

The sound is directed through front speakers below the picture screen, and can be adjusted for bass, trebile and balance. The speakers sound very good on their own, and can be set for Simulated Surround Sound.

The remote control is well layed out and very easy to use. It also includes the favorite channel selector where you can select your favorite channels with one click of the button.

Overall, I love this set. It has plenty of features, a fantastic picture, great sound and is very easy to use. This set will definitely impress the neighbors.

If you are looking for a high quality 36 inch TV, this set is the only way to go.

The Toshiba 36 inch is my first 36 inch tv.

I had a Sony 32 inch a few years back but it gave us nothing but problems. Previous to that, our tv was a 1985 Sony XBR. Which lasted over 11 years.But Sony has priced the XBR's beyond out affordability.

SO when the Sony 32 inch went out in under 4 years, we tried a 27 inch toshiba af42 and simply loved it. But with letterboxed dvd's the picture tended to be too small.
So we decided to move up to 36 inch and it is a dream.

This 36 upgrade has beautiful color and a wonderful full bodied sound.

If I have any disappointment it is that the picture during the day, could be a little brighter. At night though, it is excellent.

I hope it proves to be a reliable tv.

Except for some very exspensive CRT projectors this is the best in home HDTV I've seen. On all HDTV imputs, HD-VTR, HD Sat and over the air reception I was awed. Once a true grey scale is done and good sources set, I think you'll have many hours of viewing pleasure. BTW please use good cables, good center channel, other audio gear and surround speakers to get the best from this set.
