Great sound for a VERY reasonable price!
Digital Audio RulesAs I've come to notice, it seem that the only cables out there where the Monster cables. Not true. The great news is, for a cheaper price and without sacrificing quality, the Acoustic Research cable is the perfect match for those of us who are watching our money and want a good quality product.
If you have a DVD player (mines an RCA...) that has an optical audio plug and a stereo receiver that receives optical audio, don't wait any longer!! Stop using those RCA left and right plugs and buy an optical cable.
The AR HT181 cables will expand you're listening please due to the fact that every speaker in your system (front: left/right, back: left/right, Center & subwofer) will receive it's own independent audio signal creating incredible audio effect and enhance your listening pleasure to any DVD movie.
To try and be super technical about these cables and compare them to Monsters is overkill and every room has it's own unique acoustics. The point being . . . if you're looking for a digital optical cable and are looking for a good price these should be an excellent choice.
The construction of the cables are good. They are well packaged and protected with plastic caps on the tips (remove before using) and they fit snug and properly into the jack on my DVD and stereo receiver.
What more could you ask for at the price?It's a far better value than M _ _ $ _ _ R.

- Delivers high performance from optical digital outputs (CD, DVD, minidisc, etc.)
- Reduces signal loss and degradation
- High-grade connectors

Great sound for a VERY reasonable price!I am admittedly a novice when it comes to audio equipment...but I know what my ears tell me. Before I bought this cable, I had the basic RCA cables that come in the DVD player box. I thought my surround sound system sounded good...after plugging this cable in, the good sound quality has improved leaps and bounds (and I am not kidding here).
Sounds now go precisely into the surround speaker it was meant to go to...the sound is much cleaner and definitely in the proper location. When I had the RCA cables, the "surround" effect also wasn't as good...now, it is no doubt perfect.
Buy this cable...it improves sound quality 10 fold...plus it is much cheaper than the bigger name.

- CRT amplifier
- Favorite channel (5 channels)
- Speed Surf channel selection
- Dolby Digital built-in decoder

The best 32" out there, but too expensivePros: GREAT picture, great sound (in my opinion- some say it is too weak w/10 watts per channel, but I think it is fine.), all the right inputs, GREAT remote and menu, and just plain cool looking.
Cons: PRICE! (I know this is supposedly the best of the bunch at 32", but come on! And the 2 models higher than this only really add PIP and XBR and they cost plenty more.) Did have to put the tilt control to +1 to even out the picture (thank God that is an option and we don't have to take it for repair!) I did notice when I played the "Tarzan" dvd that on the main menu there is a blue spot in the upper left hand corner- I have heard of this in previous postings and will have to call Sony about it, but that's not enough to make me want to take it back. Last thing, it is HEAVY. With the box it's close to 200 pounds so have a strong back or 2 people doing the moving.
So in closing, this is in my opinion the BEST 32" on the market- if you love Sony like me, and have the money it is definitely worth it.
Best TV I ever bought...

Best small screen TV!The stereo speakers placed on either side of the screen offer crystal clear sound. I originally purchased a Toshiba 20" flat screen, but returned it after I found the tube emitted an annoying hum. The Sony is very quiet when volume is low.
There are plenty of inputs in the back to hook up VCRs, DVDs and what have you. The from panel has a couple of inputs to make hooking up your camcorder easy.
The control menus are very easy to use and I was able to program all the stations in about a minute. One limitation is that there is limited memory for labels for each channel (ABC, CBS, etc.).
Two separate timers allow you to set times when the TV should be off. Handy if you have a habit of dozing off in front of the TV.
The remote is unusual in shape, like a cone or wedge that ends in a point at the front. After using it I find it very comfortable to use. All the buttons are easy to reach, and it stands up on its end, making it easy to grab.
Sony Quality is superb in this 20" set! This particular model has a cable input jack, AV jacks, component video inputs, and AV jacks on the front for quick hookup to something else (xbox, etc). Like other Sony TVs, this thing is HEAVY!....but it went on a mica desk, so its fully supported :-). The speakers sound quite good and produce a very nice stereo sound, full range, very nice on our cable provider's music channels and regular TV listening.
The picture has very fine adjustments, and even tilt correction (for what I can only assume future old age situations). You won't regret buying this television. The superb build quality, sound, picture will make you instantly fall in love with it.
As a personal recommendation to Sony if they read these: Might I suggest putting that blue/purple anti-glare layer that is common on your Sony computer monitors on some TVs? Being a flat screen, if there's a glare the whole picture is effected, not just a teeny corner. Just a thought, but I still give it 5 stars!
Excellent TelevisionOne note on the price: this set replaces a Sony KV-20XBR television purchased in 1986 - and yes, it still works! The 20XBR cost $739 in 1986 dollars, so $250 to $275 I paid for this television is a bargain. It's not built as well as the 20XBR, but the original XBR series was built in Sony's Tokyo's facility and was considered a videophile-level television at the time.
Once you own a Sony television, no other brand will ever be acceptable!

- TV features 3 picture modes (normal, theater, personal) for individualized watching
- Parental control with V-chip
- 181-channel tuner with channel scan
- On screen menu in English, Spanish, or French
- Includes 23-key remote control

Great TV
Great set...Awesome picture and soundI use it primarily to watch DVDs and VHS tapes. The picture is extraordinarly clear with very little glare when I put a light up to it (there is no more glare than any other television would have)
The sound is as crisp as I could ever want from an unaltered television. I was originally planning on setting up a small and subtle sound system to the T.V. but its stock sound quality convinced me that doing that would be unnecessary.
I use the sleep timer every night and change the sound settings to allow me to fall asleep easily without being awaken by loud moments in movies or shows.
Overall this television set has pleasantly surprised me. I was originally looking for a T.V. that would simply work and not fall apart, instead I paid much less than I thought I would and got so much more.

This Thing's Great! My only regret is that I didn't spend the extra $200 or so to get the 80-hour model. Forty hours is a lot, but you do use up a great deal of memory if you record primarily in the "high quality" mode as I do. Spending 30% more for twice the memory is a no-brainer.
Certain reviews I read of earlier versions of this product were a little ambiguous about the need for a Ethernet connection to the Internet. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE AN ETHERNET CONNECTION. Without it you will not get halfway though the setup process.
The piece of hardware that forever changed my life...Skips commercials (I hate that I pay for TV and have to watch advertising... it's like the networks are getting paid twice for the same thing! I DON'T GET PAID TWICE AT MY JOB!) The major networks are scared to hell of this ability, because it will fundamentally change the market for advertising on television... and they HATE UNPREDICATBILITY AND CHANGE! They want to TELL YOU HOW TO WATCH TV. Then want you to watch what they WANT YOU TO... WHEN THEY WANT YOU TO! Well, now... they can shove primetime right up their rears! Primetime in my house is WHEN I'M READY!
Also, if you buy multiple ReplayTV 4K's, you can network them together and stream shows back and forth from one room to another. www.avsforum.com has a replaytv and showstopper forum which contains a lot of info also on how to pull video files off of your replayTV and then use your CD Burner to write them as VCD's and/or DVD's (if you have a DVD burner) so you can watch them at a later date, without having to use up hard drive space on your computer or replaytv to store it!
If you don't have a TIVO and you were thinking about it... don't even bother. There's no reason you should buy anything other than Sonic Blues' ReplayTV 4K. The only hard decision is WHAT SIZE RECORDING TIME SHOULD I GET?
Nobody tells me what I'm going to do with television services I'm paying to watch. I'll watch them when I choose and commercial free!

Sometimes you get what you pay for...The best feature of this tv by far is the picture quality. DVD's look phenomenal on this set. I used to dread watching widescreen dvd's (which are unfortunately 99% of Blockbuster's selection) but now I enjoy watching them thanks to the 16:9 compression mode Sony offers. When turning on the 16:9 mode on the tv and setting widescreen mode on your dvd player, the tv compresses the image and adds more lines of resolution to the picture, which adds startling clarity to the picture of the dvd being played.
I should note a couple things about the 16:9 mode that I've learned from my experiences with the tv. First and foremost, the 16:9 mode is only meant for widescreen dvds. If you try to use 16:9 mode on a full screen dvd the picture will look squashed and not true to life. The other caveat is that 16:9 mode literally compresses the image and you'll lose about 2" inches in your total viewing area. For my eyes, the trade-off is totally worth it. Gladiator and Pitch Black are a couple of my favorite dvd's that are beautiful with 16:9 mode on.
My satellite channels look better than ever on this tv. Very sharp images and vivid colors for most channels, even with my subpar signal.
As far as videogames go, my x-box games look excellent. I've been playing some of my older games again just to admire the picture this tv puts out. Rainbow Six 3 was a good test for this set. On most of other tv's I played Rainbow Six 3 on during our system link sessions the small in-game text looked blurry and almost unreadable. Not so with the Sony, very sharp and totally readable. Forgive me for the obscure example but for those who do own the game, they'll identify with what I'm saying.
Sound is better than most 32" tvs out there but like most tv speakers the bass isn't anything to brag about. If you're looking to add some boom to this tv a home theater system would be a must. Still, I believe the sound is more than adequate for the casual viewer.
As others have already mentioned this tv is quite heavy. My brother and I practically broke our backs lugging this beast up the stairs to my living room. The picture we seen after hooking it up was ample reward for our struggle though, lol.
I should note this tv is flatscreen and is a very nice feature if you have any light sources that could cause possible glare. I've no problems whatsoever with glare on this set.
In conclusion this tv, though expensive, is worth every penny. Some say that with Sony you're only paying for the name, not so, in my humble opinion. I've closely studied the picture on several sets and it's hard to compete with Sony quality. As I mentioned before if you're in the market for a 32" and can somehow manage to get the cash to buy this relatively expensive tv, by all means do it. I love this set. It always a good feeling to know your hard earned cash went towards something you can fully enjoy for years to come.
If you're on a tight budget (I totally understand) and can't swing the price tag for this tv there is another 32" set I would recommend as a good substitute. The Toshiba 32A43 is an excellent set and gives a great amount of "bang for your buck". The picture quality is quite good, the screen almost flat, and images are quite sharp as well. Consumer reports rated it number one in it's class of 32" tube tvs based on overall performance/price. I have this set in my bedroom and have been quite happy with it. The picture quality doesn't beat out this Sony and it doesn't have 16:9 mode but then again the Toshiba set is $200 cheaper. You can't go wrong with the Tosiba 32A43 if you need a good tv for a modest amount of money.
A really great TV!The pros:
-The picture quality is beautiful, crisp, and clear. The settings are easy to adjust, and there are even special picture settings that are appropriate for Sports or Movies. Nice touch.
-The sound quality is great! Big, bold sound, although it helped a lot when I configured my cable box to the optimal stereo volume level and used the TV remote for volume.
-The flat screen definitely reduces a lot of glare from external lights/sun. It also makes it look super-sleek and stylish!
-The price is really good for a TV of this size and quality! There is another Sony 32" flat-screen model exactly like this one, but it is at least $100 more expensive. Why? Because it has a picture-in-picture function. Unless you must have that feature, stick with this model and save yourself some money!
The cons:
-Warning: This TV is BIG. It weighs over 160 pounds, and you will not be able to lift this yourself. Also, since the speakers are on the sides of the TV, it makes it very wide. So wide, in fact, that my TV stand (designed to hold 36"-40" TVs) has only and inch or two of space left to spare! Measure your space before you buy this!
(But hey, the width isn't such a bad thing. It kinda makes the TV look like a widescreen!)
-Also, when I had this TV delivered, at first it was a little green on the bottom of the screen, and lines that were supposed to be horizontal on the screen were a bit diagonal and tilted. Fortunately, the green vanished in an hour and the TV has a setup menu function to correct the tilting issue. But those experiences lead me to believe that this TV can get out-of-whack pretty easily if jostled or moved around too much.
Overall, this TV is amazing! Beautiful picture, great sound, and a nice exterior. This Sony shows that you don't have to pay outrageous prices for a really good quality TV. Enjoy!
My ReviewI love the features and the fact that the TV has component inputs. I bought the Monster Cable Monster Game component cables for my Playstation 2. When I got it rung up the Best Buy employee asked me if I ever played a game on a nice TV like this while the component cables were on. I told him no, and he said wait till I play my games or watch DVD's, I'm gonna love it. Well he was right!
The only problem I have had with this TV is the weight. Trust me, if your taking it upstairs, it will stay up there and get sold with the house. I got the 4 year plan for $99 which I'm glad I got since it was recommended by other customers who have bought this TV. I was soaked after taking this TV up like 17 step. It's a workout!
In the end, if your in the market for a non HDTV, get a Sony FD Trinitron WEGA TV, you can't go wrong! Also spring and get yourself some component cables for your video game system or DVD player, it's worth it! I'm even considering a Monster Cable surge protector since it cleans even more distortion for better audio/video.

Good portable TV/VCR with one feature all others lack. This is the only 13" tv/vcr on the market that I could find that lets you access the menu function without the remote. I use the TV to test cable TV systems and I don't always find it convenient to use the remote. All the other TV's on the market require the remote to access the menus (to adjust channel programming, tint, color, timers, etc). This TV has a button combination on the actual unit you can push to access the menu and then you use the channel and volume buttons to navigate. The menu access is labelled "Action" on the unit which is a bit confusing (why not call it "Menu" like everyone else?) The remote also allows access to menus but you don't have to have it. It is a small remote, by the way, but I rather like it. I am not a big fan of the giant space-ship-shaped remotes everything else comes with.
I like plain, simple, easy to operate, and completely functional with or without the remote. This is the only model that fits. (I actually wanted a 9" but nobody makes one that meets these criteria so I was forced to get a 13.) It's a good choice and has a nice picture.
One more addition, if you order the white version of this TV it comes with two remotes, one normal one like the black model, and another miniature credit-card sized magnetic remote that you can keep on your refrigerator. I think the white model is aimed at kitchen users.
Happy shopping!
A good package
Great little TV for bedroom or dorm room
I am admittedly a novice when it comes to audio equipment...but I know what my ears tell me.
