Amazing Deal!! $499 at Best Buy!! Can't Beat it!!
After returning a 32" Sharp for poor quality and researching reviews for televisions, I opted for the Toshiba. Trying to keep my cost to $500 or below, I thought I was shopping for the 32" Toshiba. Well, well, well, when I went to Best Buy, there it was...the 36" Toshiba for $499!! I've been watching this tv for a week and I think it rocks! I keep looking for problems because it seems too good to be true but, so far, it has been perfect and the quality far exceeds the other inexpensive sets. For the money, you CANNOT beat this television!!

Best of its class
If you're seeking a 36in or bigger TV, decide on what class of TV U want/need.

This is best for entry level class (under $600) Got mine for $569.
There was a Panasonic CT36E13 for $650 that I thought didn't look as good as this Toshiba (too dark of an image)...and the Toshiba was way better than Sharp or Magnavox sets, and a little better than the RCA.

If you want to go next level, the Sony FlatTube Wega looks hands down incredible, but starting at $900, thats close to HD ready projection TV range.

And at the HD projection range, you start at about $1300 if your lucky, and there are other costs to consider. The HD reciever, better cables, big tv stand...and do I need to pay extra from my digital cable Co. for HD programing? Not sure, but it all gives me a headache. I guess I'm not ready for HD yet. Theyll be more common/cheaper/better in 5 years.

This Toshiba is the one for me. Very pleased

Excellent Quality for a Reasonable Price
I have had this set for almost three months. I came here to see how much they cost to get one for my niece as a present and had to comment on the (at this time) only other review on Amazon.

The other reviewer stated, paraphrased, "thought this was the top of the line" and should be your first notice that this reviewer is misinformed. This model and the 36A13 (both listed at [money] MSRP on Toshiba's website at this time) are Toshiba's entry level 36inch televisions. Anyone who has researched televisions and spent more than ten minutes at the electronics store shopping and comparing would know pretty quickly this is not the "top of the line" even if just by noting the price is in the lower 1/3rd of 36inch units.

I am very happy with the display on mine. The real surprise came from watching many movies and sporting events with my brother and his family on both his Sony Trinitron Wega and this Toshiba 36A43. We both agree this Toshiba has a hands down better picture than the Sony. The Sony costs about [money] more. As a degreed engineer I can assure you that we have considered, and ruled out, differences in DVD/cable equipment and spent much time tweaking the controls. When all is said and done, the Sony came up to [money] wasted.

This is *not* the cheapest 36" TV you can buy, but in my opinion is the best value for a traditional (non-HDTV) unit on the market. If one spends time researching this model you will find many more positive reviews than negative. I should also note there is no comparison to a friend's "cheap" Sharp 36inch television, in his words "I wish I would have done more research, If I knew then what I know now I would have happily spent an extra [money]"

As a side note, before my purchase I also researched manufacturer reliability from both a well known consumer publication as well as a couple repair shops around town. Every response was very positive with a "go ahead" on Toshiba for reliability.

I got this TV from rca as a exchange because I was having problems with my other rca TV and now they sent me this TV it is bran new and the same day I get it I start having problems with it the problem is when I shut the TV off there is a static noise from the back of the TV. If I was you don't by a rca TV go with a different company another thing about there company is you try to talk to some one in there office about the TV to have the problem fixed they keep making up excuse and they just tell you anything THINK BEFORE YOU BUY

Great TV
I bought this TV because I am a huge video game and home theatre guy. The first thing I noticed when I got it was that there were so many little things that make this TV great. One thing that I didn't think I would use but I now can't live without is the TV guide plus. This tells me not only whats on but also information about the show so if I've already seen it I know it's not a big deal to miss it. Being a video game guy the other thing I noticed right away were the hookups in the back. It has S-video and component hookups, I just wish there were more of them so I wouldn't have to use a system selector. Still the ones that are there are great and I get an excellent picture. Most people probably don't have as much hooked up anyways. All in all, from picture quality to features I'm glad I got this TV. About the only thing missing is high definition, and thats in another price range.

Excellent, clear picture, easy to use ...
Easy to set up, easy to use, especially for the technologically challenged.

clapper issues
I hooked this TV up to my Clapper and had trouble right away. On my first clap-on, the TV made a small popping noise, then a few seconds later, it came on, but went directly to Lifetime. Now, the TV won't go off (with or without the Clapper) and I can't change the channel. The only solution I've found is to unplug it.

Great TV but save your money.
These babies are gonna get cut to half the cost by the end of the year. Save your money and have Santa get you one for Xmas.

Unbelievable TV
This television produces undoubtedly the clearest, sharpest, and most refined picture on the market today. While the 42'' size may seem "small" by today's standards, the superb clarity of the picture cannot be found on any other type or brand of television. This television is not the best choice for video games, because of the risk of phosphor burning after prolonged use. If you are interested in a good "gaming" tv, I would suggest a Sony LCD rear-projection display, which I own and am extremely satisfied with. However, if picture quality is all you're after, look no further than this tv. Hands-down, the greatest!

Big disappointment
Bought my new Sony and in less than four weeks did not work. Calling Sony just left me with buzy signals. Finally got through and they gave me no help, finally got fixed and is broken again after 6 months........WON`T buy another Sony.....

Projection or Tube?
The TV quality on this Projection TV is so good that I often forget it isn't a tube. Sony's are always superior in quality and this TV lives up to the Sony name.

Best of the Big Screens
Agonized for many months deciding on a rear projection TV formy house and compared just about every model available (except forHDTV models) and found the Sony KP-48V80 to be the best out there. Keep in mind that the picture quality is only as good as the incoming signal (many stores have projection TVs connected to DVD players only, be sure to view TV with other sources when comparing). True, the Sony is the most expensive analog for it's size out there but there's a reason for that. This TV can't be beat (except maybe by the XBR rear projection series). END

I can't get it to work.
I bought this remote for my Panasonic TV. However, after much trying, I cannot get it to work. I have tried everything and read and followed the instructions many times. It refuses to work.

Great Remote For The Remote Control Challenged!
This is one of the greatest remotes in the world for the remote control challenged! It's also great for the elderly, or for anyone who is tired of remotes with little buttons. The buttons on this are BIG! And about the only thing your remote control challenged relative or friend could do to make it not work, is to push the CBL button, when they have no cable box. It's strictly for TV or a cable box, which is all a lot of people actually use.

Excellant Low Cost Basic Remote
Excellant choice if you want something very simple and are not worried about controlling other components. Excellant replacement for a lost remote. Nice and Big so you won't lose it again! You can't go wrong!

A Great TV!
I did alot of research on TVs before buying this one. The only weak spot this TV has is no volume leveler and that's it. I've had mine for about a year and I'm very, very happy with its performance. For the money, there isn't a better TV out there!

Great picture - lousy remote
I'm a recent purchaser of this TV and am very pleased with it. The picture is incredible and very adjustable. The features you get like the multiple S-Video inputs, component input, PIP make it an great bargain for the price ([money] from Amazon and free shipping). I can't tell you about the sound as I have it hooked up to my surround sound system. The only flaw with this TV is the remote. It can control the TV, VCR and a cable box. But it cannot control a sat receiver! In 2003, this is an inexcusable oversight but not enough of one for me to lower my opinion of this great TV.

very pleased
i have had the toshiba 36" flat screen tv for 12 months. it has been trouble free with great picture and sound. i am getting a 24" toshiba for the bedroom.

Don't Risk Your Money on a Toshiba Plasma
We bought a 42" Toshiba plasma tv. It worked for one month. Toshiba has sent a repair crew to our home three times and they can't fix it. we're out $5000. Toshiba promised to fix it or replace it, but, three months later, it's still broken and we're still waiting for our new tv. Since Amazon has a no-return policy for big-screen tv's, we're at the mercy of Toshiba and their terrible customer service. Before shelling out this much money for a plasma, I strongly recommend doing research on the web about manufacturer's customer service. If I had done so, I would have never bought a plasma from Toshiba.

Top quality but not cheap
The guy in Atlanta makes some good points, but two caveats: 1) Fujitsu's plasma offerings are actually better than Toshiba, not by much, but you can tell the difference (if you are in New York, go to Harvey Electronics at ABC Carpet to see for yourself), 2) the Samsung receiver is cheap and works cheap; get a better receiver from Sony or JVC.

Amazing TV/Picture!
WOW! I am sooo glad i bought this tv; the picture quality is amazing...it's even better than theater viewing! There are not enough adjectives to describe how awesome this tv is. Because this tv is a flat panel, you can put it almost anywhere. The sound quality as well is great! To really appreciate this tv, go get your favorite movie in dvd/widescreen format, sit down and enjoy the show. You will never be sorry you bought this tv.

THIS TV IS AWSOME
The only problem I have with this TV is that when in compnent 1 HDTV mode through charter I have to keep it in the cool 1 color setting. If I don't the color gets real bright then real dark in and out. Other then that this TV is great no complaints exspecailly for the (970) price tag I bought it at!!!!!!

No significant problems, nice picture
I do not have a problem changing the aspect ratio on progressive scan DVD's as a previous rater suggests. The one catch I had was that this TV has two sets of component jacks (Red-Blue-Green and two audio jacks). The CATCH is that component 2 cannot be used for DVD. Hence, our Digital TV box (Comcast Cable) must be used in component 2 and the DVD must be hooked up to component 1. This was not in the manual. Also, when I put my cable in component 2, it did not work until I hooked up a DVI cable from the TV to the comcast box. Not sure why. But looks great all the same. I have a Panasonic progressive scan DVD and typically set the aspect ratio of the TV to "DVD" which allows me to adjust the screen to take up the entire screen. Looks fantastic in progressive scan DVD playing. HDTV, I guess it depends on the signal you are receiving, does not allow for changing of aspect ratio. The Masters golf tournament was awesome, although an LCD in HDTV would blow it away, it still makes HDTV worth the price. I get Phillies games on HDTV and I cannot change the aspect ratio (bar at top and bottom) and I dont think its the TV's fault. The Masters as in most HDTV stuff takes up the entire screen. I found everything else about this TV to be satisfactory, it is not as deep as some big screens and does not overtake a room. The small shelf it sits on that comes with the TV houses the Comcast box and probably would fit the DVD player but that is it. You will need to put your Sound Receiver and any other component elsewhere so be aware of that when you go out and spend money on cables. I use a DVI cable that came with a Dell flat screen and it works great. Monster DVI cable ($129!!) would be overkill. I also use GE componnent cables which had I gone with Monster brand cables all around I would have spent an extra $300!!

GREAT TV - PERIOD
With this tv you can have top of the line performance with out the top of the line price. I have had mine for a few months now, and I would recommend it to anyone. The ONLY reason I gave this tv 4 stars is because of the component inputs. It has 3, but 2 of them are dedicated to High Definition. Meaning ONLY high definition components can be used. (like HD satellite) DVD players are NOT High Definition! So really it is like only having 1 component input. Kind of a pain when I have my Playstation 2 hooked up using components. (recommended) Now there is no place for any dvd player. That is why I got Samsung's HD931. It has a DVI output that will go right into the DVI input in the back of my tv. (see what I mean about top of the line!)
The tv is simply great. I highly recommend getting satellite service, and the Samsung HD931 to take advantage of what this tv can do.
Good luck!

GREAT TELEVISION FOR THE MONEY
I have this TV paired up to a Samsung HD-953 DVI DVD player and the picture is terrific. This television is a beast, so make sure you do your measurements. It's a piece of furniture in its' own right. The set up is easy, and there are many, many useful inputs on the back. USE the DVI and you will achieve an excellent picture. This is a digital HDTV television, so the hardware interfaces much more positively with a digital input. I had one bit of trouble with the door on the bottom of the cabinet, and Samsung sent me the WHOLE door. I've had terrific experiences with their products in general. You cannot buy more television for this price.

Best buy
