Not Durable

Great Durable Camera
- 180x digital zoom
- Night video capability

- Wide selection of special effects
List price: $599.00 (that's NaN% off!)

Great choice for a first time camcorder buyer. On the other hand, the unit does have some nice'though limited-- advanced features such as preset exposures, special effects, and Sony's unique NightShot feature. My daughter especially likes the special effects package. I particularly appreciate the Night Shot feature. I video a lot of youth sporting events that can involve a lot of transitional lighting issues, especially on those evenings around the time change seasons, an this unit handles all those issues very well. It does a commendable job in moonlight as well.
The unit is well designed and rugged. It is not a choice for die-hard vidoephiles'the range of advanced features is too limited, but they should be adequate for normal family outing type use.
Battery life using the LCD is rather short. The viewfinder picture is black & white. Using it rather than the LCD expands battery life significantly but the quality of he picture in the viewfinder is not good.
The audio quality is average. Functionality of interface with other devices (TV, PC, etc.) is good.
On the whole, a great unit to start out with or for more adventurous outings where camera safety might be an issue. (I took this one white water rafting'not my state-of-the-art unit.). It has enough features to give a feel for an advanced unit without overwhelming the user, provides better than average output and cost wise is a relative bargain.
great value!
Excellent gift.

Good Stuff but with Misleading Product NameThe only TV tuner I know that has the capability to receive digital broadcasting is Hauppauge's WinTV-HD and its cousins.
Just as it shouldPros:
Excellent picture
Better construction than the N4
Runs cooler
Stand is great
Remote is easier to use by feel
Cons:
Costs more
Seems to be the best *affordable* video processor(1) Nextvision N4 do NOT have a powerful video processor.
(2) Nextvision N5 has a Trident DPTV-MV, which features a 10bit ADC/DAC and adaptive comb filter etc.
(3) Nextvision N6 has a Trident DPTV-3D, which features a 10bit ADC/DAC and adaptive 3D comb filter etc.
(4) Jaton Dreambox has a Trident DPTV-DX, which has no comb filter nor 10bit ADC/DAC. It may be the same video processor being used in N4.
I cannot find any information on the video processor of the VB50HRTV, but I think it is not as powerful as the DPTV-MV in N5? BTW, even Sony's LCD TV use the same series of video processors. Given the price tag, I think Nextvision N5 is the best buy.

Second thoughtsDownside, you have to have a compact flash card and reader in order to import the updated software. Looking at prices at Amazon this could cost more than half the price of the unit itself. This is a serious shortcoming for this product and my reason for a average rating. I have still not been able to get the unit to work on either of my networks using Windows XP.
Most people keep their photo's on CD's and a CD slot would have been a great feature, even over the assortment of memory card slots they provide. I would believe that most images are moved from memory cards to hard drives and cd's for long term storage and later viewing making a CD drive much more practical.
Very good product, although a bit too expensiveAfter using the Prismiq MediaPlayer for six months (which I have now sold off on ebay), this is a godsend. Even my wife can now use the Roku HD1000.
* Component Video Output of upto 1080i (this is a plus for me as I have an HDTV, although this may not be an important feature to you if you do not have HDTV) -- finally some justice done to my digital photos. Actually, the UI is more readable as well because of the higher resolution.
* Very good UI, although some some features (better playlist navigation, auto-playlists or sort by artist/album/genre etc) are desperately needed.
* Open platform, SDK is freely available. Opens door for 3rd-party developers
* No special server software needed, other than SMB file sharing.
* The company engineers (including the CEO) seems to be listening to the customers and coming up with useful feature updates.
* The only negative feature is its price. At $500, it seems a bit too expensive.
Hi-Res HDTV pictures, MP3s, easy-to-use, and inexpensive.menus. MP3 player displays ID3 tags and can play in the background
while you do other things (like watch a slideshow). The user
interface is clean, minimalist, and easy to use. It finds shared
content on networked drives and inserted flash cards and they appear
in the user interface automatically. Unlike the competition, it
requires no proprietary server software: just plug it in and you are
ready to go. And it costs about the same as competing products, but
none of them provide HDTV output.
The only drawback is that the remote responsiveness is slightly worse
than other electronics, though programming a learning remote from the
supplied remote makes it better.

Good, Cheap TripodIt's perfect for my digital camera and camcorder. It has all the features that I would need... plus, it looks really slick. When looking it over, you can't tell the difference between this and a tripod that's $50 more.
Overall, a great buy, and a must have for photography, home video.
